Comments about Epiphone SG Special VE Electric Guitar:

I actually got the satin finish cherry-colored not the black as shown in the image above. But it's a great beginners guitar, the satin finish gives it a nice vintage look, the tuners aren't great but they work. I don't know much about pickups but I hear they are the standard pickups, and the sound is good coming out of my Fender Mustang. The guitar came with heavier gauge strings and hurt my small and ring fingers at first but I got used to it. You can change out the strings if you need to I guess. Also, the action seems to be a little low producing subtle fret buzz. it's not a deal-breaker as you can adjust the action. I gave it 4 stars because it's not a Gibson but has the shape and body of a Gibson.

Comments about Epiphone SG Special VE Electric Guitar:

I had an Epiphone Les Paul Special II GT Worn Ebony I liked because of the worn black finish, mahogany body, black hardware, and classic parallelogram fret markers. The tremolo and kill switch were fun to have too. However, it didn't make up for lacking that classic Les Paul feel.

I traded the Les Paul for this SG Special, which was way cheaper, and I was happy I did. Although it isn't as good as my Epiphone Worn Series G-400, it comes as close as it could for the price. At first, the lighter poplar body with deep grain made it appear cheap to me, and it doesn't have the same bite and sustain. It still sounds pretty bright on a clean channel and has a mean snarl when distorted. This one actually has better craftsmanship and set up than the Les Paul, and even my G-400. Those, along with the price totally make up for the inferior materials and lack of bells and whistles that the Les Paul Special II GT had.

I really think it's the best bang for your buck.

Comments about Epiphone SG Special VE Electric Guitar:

I am learning to play with this guitar. I love the feel of the neck compared to the heavily glossed necks on similarly priced guitars. It is rather neck heavy and has a bit of neck dive, but that is not noticeable with the 2" suede strap I purchased.
