Epiphone

collapse expand iconDescription

The Epiphone Les Paul Junior is part of the company’s "Inspired by Gibson" collection and is available now at Guitar Center. The Junior was first released in 1954 as a student-level guitar, but over the decades, it has made its way into countless classic songs and into the hands of legendary guitar greats. Featuring a mahogany body with a single dog ear P-90 Pro pickup, the Epiphone Les Paul Junior captures the essence of the original. It is ideal for players who want Gibson look and tones but at a more affordable price.

Epiphone Les Paul Junior Main Features

  • Mahogany body
  • Mahogany neck with vintage ’50s profile, 22-fret Indian laurel fretboard with 12" radius
  • Dogear Pro P-90 single-coil pickup with volume and tone controls
  • Lightning bar wraparound bridge, Graph Tech nut

Mahogany Body Construction

Like the original 1954 Junior, the Epiphone Les Paul Junior has a slab mahogany body. This tonewood has a well-defined midrange and a low-key high end, making it the perfect platform for a P-90.

Vintage Profile Neck

Epiphone paired the Les Paul Jr. with a mahogany neck. Fans of older instruments will appreciate its vintage ’50s profile. The Indian laurel fretboard has a 12" radius to eliminate “fretting out” while bending strings. The ’60s Kalamazoo headstock makes this Epiphone look more like a Gibson than ever before.

Simple but Effective Electronics

With a dog ear Pro P-90, the Les Paul Junior will fit into any genre of music. It is a sensitive single coil—played with a light touch, the Pro P-90 is full and clean; with a harder pick attack, the sound begins to growl and distort in the best way possible. The volume and tone controls give the Les Paul Junior a surprising sonic versatility.

Rock-Solid Hardware

A combination Lightning Bar wraparound bridge/tailpiece maximizes the string-to-body transfer of energy for greater sustain. Epiphone Deluxe Vintage tuners are nickel plated like the Lightning Bar, and have old-school ivory buttons.

Additional features include a mother-of-pearl logo on the headstock, dot inlays and black Top Hat knobs. For players looking for classic Gibson features at a more affordable price—without compromises—the Epiphone Les Paul Junior is a solid choice.

Great guitar right out of the box (literally), with the exception of the dogear pick up being much too low & far away in relation to the string height, even when set up for very low action. Bought a pickup spacer and installed and now it's perfect! Plenty of bite & growl, cleans up nicely and has that great vintage sound & look I've been missing in my collection👍🏻👍🏻

This can be a really good Junior if you happen to get a good one. Every one I actually saw in person looked kind of cheap and had sharp fret ends. Positives, the tuners, the pickup is pretty good, and the electronics. Cons, frets can be sharp, the wraparound bridge needs adjustment and stabilizing, the super thick beveled pickguard is hideous, and the color of these is kind of weird. I think the choice of color makes it look kind of cheap. I bought a used one really cheap in prime condition and it happened to be a good one.

  • Ironically, the first guitar I got my hands on at 13 in 1964

I'm in retirement these past few years but still like to get my hands on a well made new guitar. The Junior does not disappoint. A friend of mine had a Gibson like this back in 64, probably a Melody Maker, but similar. Not long after I learned I became a Fender man and still am. Until today. Wanted a good guitar with a P-90 and this one does the job beautifully. Lovely finish and feisty pickup. Neck's like a baseball bat but I can adjust. Sweet guitar.

  • What a great sounding/ well built guitar..... love it

Don't be fooled by the simplicity of this guitar. Just because it has only one pick up doesn't mean you can't get tonal variations (via the tone control knob). The fit and finish are of impressive quality! The P-90 packs a lot of punch. The action was set great right out of the box. Looks great, sounds great, and I personally really like this simple setup!

  • Great guitar after a little setup, it's a keeper .

After a simple truss rod adjustment , I then filed a little bit on the 6th fret to eliminate a tall , buzzy fret . Then I lowered the tailpiece to my preferred height. The guitar plays great. Awesome sustain and fun to experience getting different tones from 1 pickup 1 tone and 1 volume. This guitar is awesome with a quick and easy setup. The finish is nice .The neck profile is just right. This guitar is well worth the money , it's a keeper. Just know that you may have to perform a little minor setup to get it perfect. I'm super picky about setup and I think it's fantastic after a minor bit of work. I'm impressed with Epiphone and I decided to buy the Epiphone ES-335 after my experience with this Epiphone Les Paul Jr . Totally happy with my purchase.

The "P90" pickup in this guitar is "the real thing" or there is a variation with the authentic P90 of the Gibson version?

There's no variation but it's not made by Gibson.

How does this compare to the Billy Joe Armstrong version, aside from color, which comes with a hard case? Is it the same spec?
