Electro-Harmonix Tone Corset Analog Compressor

Electro-Harmonix

collapse expand iconDescription

The Tone Corset, Electro Harmonix's new four-knob analog compressor, squeezes your guitar tone in all the right ways! Mike Matthews says, "The Tone Corset is the funkiest analog compressor I ever heard on guitar!"

The 4-knob design provides excellent control and gives the user the ability to precisely shape their instrument’s dynamics. The Sustain knob controls the amount of compression applied to the guitar signal. The Attack know adjusts how quickly the compressor recovers. As Attack is turned clockwise the pedal’s response is slower and more initial pick attack comes thru. The Blend knob adjusts the mix of the dry and compressed signals. Volume controls the overall output level. The Pad switch pads down the input signal to prevent undesirable distortion if the Tone Coret is used with high output humbuckers, bass guitar, etc. True Bypass for maximum signal path integrity. Comes with a 9V battery.

As a bass player, I've tried a few compression pedals. Some better than others...as it were, I generally gravitated towards optical compressors. Although most did their job, there was always something (call it mojo or whatever), missing. This pedal, has "it". It can find a home at the end of your chain, used more as a limiter, or in front as a compressor. So, as versatile as any compressor can be. I'd highly recommend this to any bassist as an "always-on" compressor.

My set up wouldn't sustain notes/chords very long. The sound would fade away very quickly, making solos and long bends sound terrible. I was told compressor pedals help augment the sustain so that notes ring longer and more fully. So I decided to buy the Tone Corset, not fully understanding exactly what it did or how it worked. Boy am I glad I did. My notes and chords now ring as long as I need them to, no more premature fading and limp sounding solos. Compressor pedals typically dont alter the tone, and arent specifically meant to do so. The tone corset certainly does, it can clean up and bolster both clean and distortion tones. I love the thing, its one of the few pedals in my loop I almost always have on. It wont drastically change your tone unless you specifically want it to, and everything I play sounds better with it on.

There are some nicer compressors on the market, but none in this price range. i think the Tone Corset could go up against the Wampler Ego and Walrus Audio Deep 6 and easily hold its own. The boutique pedals have a bit of and edge on the Tone Corset, but not twice the cost nicer for my purposes.

I did quite a bit of research before I decided on this pedal. I'm very familiar with Electro-Harmonix pedals and had no doubts about the build quality. One thing that sold me was the fact that it had a blend knob, which enables me to really fine tune the amount of compression. The price is not outrageous either! Recommended

Not a big pedal guy so wasn't really sure what to expect from this. I LOVE IT! This cleans up the sound and gives a great crisp sound to whatever I play, makes an improvement I didn't know I was missing.

How does this sound with a bass?

This pedal would work well on a bass. It would compress the tone and give you a funkier tone.
