I compared this back to back in my Deluxe Reverb with a Celestion G12 Green back, also in an extension cabinet to switch back and forth. I did not buy it from GC, but I own it nevertheless. Sounds very similar to the G12 GBRI I have. Doesn't break up too early, surprisingly. To my ear, very little mud. Feels about like a 96-97 db sensitivity. The Jensen C12K, while acceptable, just didn't (in this amp...tolerances, tolerances) have any air to the highs, I play Gretschs, Strats and a P90 LP Melody Maker, that's how much I'm into smooth highs. There are much more toneful speakers out there, of course. But, if you got a tight budget, I think you'll be okay with these. Five stars for value, Four for tone.

  • Absolutely perfect for cover rock, blues, metal

I've been buying speakers for years. Paying through the nose. I got to where I suddenly needed to load about 5 4x12 with speakers. I tried these, a quad of them. It was heaven from the first note. Plenty of bass. Plenty of grit. Nice cleans too. They are never harsh. 20 ordered so far.

I bought this to compare to the 50 watt version, which I like a lot. This 35 watt version is not overall as loud as the 50 watt, meaning it is less efficient: technically speaking, it has less sensitivity, meaning it produces less dB per watt. There is no factory spec given here for sensitivity, all I can say is it's less than it's 50 watt bigger brother. That could be great for you if you're looking to tame the power of your amp to allow it to break up at a lower volume. I wouldn't stick this in more than a 25 watt amp. They don't tell you How it is rated. What does 35 watt mean? You can run it for 24 hours at an ambient temperature of 70 degrees with a sign wave of 1000 Hz at 35 watts? Or what?? Because sadly, there is no standard. Considering that a 35 watt amp will deliver 1.414 times the watts (49 watts) when playing fully distorted, we kind of need to know how they are rating it; what does the 35 watts mean. Consider that some feel the best tones are when the amp is played at its peak and the speaker is also nearing it's limits, because that gives a nice compressed touchy-feel. Tonally, I think this would make a good speaker for a Fender black- or brown-faced amp about the power of a Deluxe~Amp or Deluxe Reverb~Amp. because it has a natural softening of the high frequencies. It has a Pop to the leading edge of the attack whereas the 50 watt version has more of a ring.

Don't take my word for it. Go listen to the EHX Mig 50 demo on youtube (made by EHX). Totally lifeless mud tone. The guy has to totally cut bass when using humbuckers. These speakers can hardly be heard driven with a 50 watt amp compared to vintage 30s and a 5 watt amp. Just sad.

Used these 2 speakers to replace 2 Celestions in a Marshall 1960A 4x12 cabinet. Great sound.
