EMG

collapse expand iconDescription

The H4 is the equivalent of EMG's 81 Active Pickup without the "active" that uses two "bar" loaded coils for "balls to the walls" tone. All HZ Pickups have EMG's exclusive 5-wire quick-connect output allowing any number of wiring combinations, and are fully shielded for a minimum of noise. String grounding is recommended to further decrease noise.

A couple months ago I ordered an Ibanez Grga42tqa, and one of the reasons I got it was because it had Emgs on it. This is my first guitar with Emgs, but I've played guitars with actice Emgs before and I absolutely love them. I was kinda nervous about the fact that they were passive, but my worrie were pointless. In my opinion, these are amazing pickups. Sure, they have less punch tan actives, but they are warmer and more versatile and I love the sound they give.

I have a C-1 Hellraiser with EMG Active 81tw/89 set, and I love it. I also have a Stiletto Custom-4 with EMG 35Hz. They are great, too. So I decided to swap out the stock pick ups on my Yamaha AE420 with the EMG H4 and the EMG H4a. And, well, it sounds like a completely different guitar. I see this sentiment thrown around a lot, but I agree with it: If you want to get as close as you can to an EMG active sound, the EMG H4 or H4a are as close as you'll get while still being passive and not having to keep a fresh battery in your guitar. And honestly, in the future, if I buy a guitar with passive pick ups, I'll probably switch them out for the H4/H4a set up. Great job, EMG.

I have a Schecter Damien FR guitar that came with the HZ's pre-installed, it has the H4A in the neck and the H4 in the bridge. They have great output, the cleans ring and sing, and the best part...the dirt is crunchy, sustain is great and harmonics scream.

I got the H4 and put it into the bridge position on my LTD EX 50 and the guitar came alive! This pickup rocks. It now make me go into withdrawls when I have to put the guitar down. A very good by at a reasonable price.

Wow this is a hot pickup, mine is in the bridge of my vendetta 2.0. It is a little higher output than most pickups,,,,it really screams with harmonics. It has a very good clean sound and does chorus good if you are in to those type of sounds. the thing i love about it is that i can crank the gain all the way up and still have clarity and hear the notes. Not muddy at all,,it is the opposite of muddy. Its best suited for the high gain players. It has very ,crisp highs, and it throws out a lot of mid range, so if you have mids on about 1-2, it will sound very rockin, what would be like -2 on a regular pickup. By the way my setup is Dean vendetta in drop B, with a digitech RP50, running through a raven rg20 amp.

The H4 does not require a battery. Probably but modification may be required. In a case like this we recommend having a qualified tech look at the instrument.

These pickups are similar but produce a slightly different tone. The H4 pickups are a little hotter.

Yes it will. Depending on the model, if it has active pickups in it currently you may have to remove some of the electronics for it to make it fit.
