Its Great: When its not broken

By William Kim

from Edmonds, WA

Comments about Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) Guitar Effects Pedal:

The DVP3 Volume(X) pedal by Dunlop was the first volume pedal I've ever owned so I cant really compare this pedal to other volume pedals that are available in the market. However, from what i can tell, the steel bands are very prone to breakage which was supposedly a problem with the older models. Mine only lasted for about 3 weeks until the the half of the steel band snapped until it managed to completely snapped before practice a few days later; making the device useless. For a brand new pedal that cost over a hundred dollars I had expected it to last far longer than what i had experienced. Either way this problem was either attributed by a production fluke or (hopefully not) an underlying design flaw so I would advice prospective consumers carefully research before making the decision in purchasing this product. Overall the product is great but only when it doesn't break.

Comments about Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have replaced this pedal twice with in a year or so time frame. Now the 3rd one is starting to cut in and out. The output jacks are plastic instead of metal so that causes contact issues over time. Will definitely stay away from Dunlop volume pedals from now on. Maybe they should stick to Wah pedals.

Comments about Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is a must escpecially if you have a fuzz pedal or some other dirt pedals. Its imperative that your guitar be on full volume to get those pick ups going and adjust the dirt with your volume knob on your guitar. You can only do that with a volume pedal. I dont think people view this as a must to have on your board sicne its the size of a wah pedal and they both take up much needed space on your board. buy a bigger board and get this pedal its a game changer for dirt pedals. you def need to move it around on the board and see where it sounds best. The quality of this pedal is great nice and durable.

      Great Pedal!

Comments about Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) Guitar Effects Pedal:

Awesome pedal! I prefer a linear taper more than an audio taper. However, because the heel to toe down has a bit more travel than I like, that travel distance works well to make the audio taper more controllable like a linear taper. Also, the movement is very smooth and I can adjust the tension so that it will fall back into toe down if I accidentally hit the heel. Most importantly, NO TONE LOSS!

Comments about Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought the pedal during a MF "Stupid Deal" event, which I had been waiting for for months after first reading about this product. This thing is built like a tank and is quite substantial, very heavy - perfectly ideal for those looking for a rugged and seemingly long-lasting product. The premise upon which the pedal is designed is a good one, and by all rights should last long enough to be your last volume pedal. It does not depend on strings, springs or rubber bands in order to track, so it would be ideal to depend on for critical applications.

I played the unit I purchased for a total of 35 minutes before the pedal lost all *physical* resistance. This pedal has a built-in screw under the treadle that is turned in order to add resistance to the treadle, which is designed to keep the treadle in the desired position. The end result is that the treadle will not hold position, but will close on it's own, since the resistance "clamp" failed to operate. With no resistance this pedal is absolutely useless and ends up getting in the way.

So, I got 35 minutes of use before it quit operating. And since I was playing live at church and had to give it a temporary fix by removing the plastic resistance clamp and adding in some material. But, that "fix" did not work, so I had to go out and buy an Ernie Ball (which still works after a whole year).

This pedal will make a great, albeit oversized, door stop.

Comments about Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) Guitar Effects Pedal:

You will not buy the product again, it really is very bad, the range is very short, it can not be at an ideal level because it goes beyond range.

Comments about Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) Guitar Effects Pedal:

I had a Ernie ball vp jr. it takes away so much of the tone that I had! When I tried this pedal it did not cut any tone away, it feels very smooth when you are swelling! My last one you had to push down harder than you need to on the Dunlop! It is a great pedal and haven't had any issues with it. I play for my church and having all of the tone that I didn't have before makes a huge difference
