Wampler Pedals - Ego Compressor

Wampler

collapse expand iconDescription

The Wampler Ego Compressor is a premium stompbox that provides unparalleled control over dynamics and sustain. Created for discerning musicians seeking nuanced tone shaping abilities, the Ego Compressor delivers everything from subtle enhancement to pumped compression. The Ego Compressor features fully analog circuitry and intuitive controls that put endless tonal tweaking at your feet.

Sustain Control Fine-Tunes Your Sound

The Ego Compressor's Sustain control offers a range of compression levels, from light, transparent boost to pumped, chicken pickin' squish. Turn it up for endless sustain and a thicker tone, or back it off for a more natural dynamic response. The Ego Compressor's wide range of sustain makes it suitable for any style, from country twang to metal chunk.

Blend Knob Maintains Pick Attack

While most compressors remove pick attack and transient response, the Ego Compressor's Blend control lets you dial it back in. Turn the Blend knob to the left for a compressed tone with muted pick dynamics, or turn it right to blend in your uncompressed signal and maintain articulation. The Ego Compressor's Blend knob gives you the best of both worlds: compression and pick dynamics.

Tone and Volume Provide Global Control

Shape your overall tone with the Ego Compressor's intuitive Tone and Volume controls. Turn the Tone knob left for a warmer, darker sound or right for a brighter tone with extra sheen. The Volume knob boosts or cuts your output level to match the level of your uncompressed signal or interface with other pedals on your board. Global tone shaping and level control—the Ego Compressor has you covered.

Everything the demo claims

Revamping a stage rig, second Wampler product I've bought in a few weeks. Very pleased with construction, control layout and sound. Using the Ego to add a little sweet sustain to an analog to Fender amp signal chain, used for variety pop - rock, funk, jazz, country, whatever. With attack and blend almost all the way down and sustain and tone dialed relatively high I get a very natural attack from Gibson and D'Angelico hums and Strat single coils, while adding a long tail sustain with some nice sparkle. I leave it on most of the time now for anything except fingerstyle jazz when I need a more percussive sound. Works great with the blend turned way up into a heavy squash for funk rhythm and country chicken-pickin'. Can't speak to longevity, I've only had it on three gigs and one session so far, but it seems solid. Not noisy, no tone-suck unless you dial it in that way.

Maybe something was wrong with mine...

Maybe something was wrong with the one I got. Has great reviews and the associate at guitar center couldn't rave enough about this pedal. When I hooked it up, I could barely tell the difference between when it was off it on, and the tone knob did NOTHING. I brought it back to GC to have them check it out and they agreed with me that it didn't seem to be doing much (again, NOTHING from the tone knob). Unfortunately, they didn't have another in stock to compare and I didn't feel like taking a chance on it what with my disappointing experience so far, so I just returned it. Will be looking into other compression pedals.

I didn't want to buy a compressor at first because I wanted to buy a pedal that was more "fun"…But this thing blew me away this is a super fun pedal and makes you wanna play more. It's got such a nice punch and is super thick. Perfect for Cory Wong tones.

This was an extraordinary surprise. I was looking for a compression pedal and just lucked out when i came across this pedal in a local music store. I rushed home and went to playing after getting a superb deal on the pedal. It really tightens up your sound as a blues/jazz player.
