I bought this little kit a couple of months ago and WOW! This kit's big brother is a Tama Starclassic B/B, so I was a little hesitant switching over to a poplar kit. However after changing the heads, this kit SINGS! The music I'm playing is indie rock (Circa Survive, Thrice) and old country tunes (Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash).
The toms tune up real easy and have enough punch for rock, but also enough warmth for the country tunes. THE KICK! Okay, I love my 18x22 and 18x20 kicks, but a 14 just seemed like a good challenge. When I first got it, I put a 4" port in the kick... BIG MISTAKE! After hitting what sounded like a pancake, I put coated heads on both sides with no port... I always put them in my big kicks so it was kind of a habit. After I put coated PS3s on both sides... DANG! It has a low end "WOOF" that my 22 has never had. I ditched the snare because even though it cuts, the 12" diameter is too thin for me so I have it on reserve for a side/backup snare. The hardware is great. A lot of companies skimp in this area, but Sonor uses the same hardware on this kit as they do on their high-end kits. I went with the Champagne Sparkle finish and it's beautiful... more gold than pink. I also liked that the kick drum hoop was nice and sturdy.

IF you want a punchy, but still warm sound on this kit, here are the heads I used:
8" tom - Coated Emperor (top) Clear Ambassador (bottom)
13" tom - Coated Emperor (top) Clear Ambassador (bottom)
14" kick - Coated PS3 (batter) Coated PS3 (resonant) **NO PORT**

I bought this kit to play at my small house at the beach,,,after numerous attempts to get the mounted tom and kick to sound good, I gave up. I changed heads, tuned up, tuned down,,hell I tried everything but ..the small tom and kick sound like a wet noodle,,could never get a great sound. After 2 years I sold em and got the Sound Percussion Labs Street Bop kit (100 cheaper and better shells,,birch) and and happy now. Best thing about the Martini kit was the color.

Martini wow

Comments about Sonor Martini 4-Piece Shell Pack:

Let me say first of all Sonor has created a masterpiece, the finish, the hardware, and most of all the sound is astounding! No corners have been cut on this kit. The snare is easy to tune and rips ! Incredible sound from bass drum almost unbelievable boom! Toms can be tuned from lowest resonance to highest and sound amazing. Over all very solid kit. Bass drum stays put ,no sliding, tom mount is heavy duty, floor tom legs are excellent. Would highly recommend this kit to any one, professional or not. The volume of the kit is incredible also for such small drums. Can not say enough great things about this kit. I have been playing drums for 44 years and currently play in a contemporary Christian band whose first album went top 20 on Billboard, I can't wait to take these out next gig! Martini kit ? Absolutely!!!

Comments about Sonor Martini 4-Piece Shell Pack:

I'm in a band that plays mostly volunteer gigs, usually in small spaces. I've been playing a Tama Silverstar cocktail kit and enjoyed it but never felt comfortable with the inverted bass pedal as well as the large tom sitting above the bass. I'm in my 60's and grew up playing single and double kits. Although small, this kit sits just like a full size kit.

I bought this sonor kit for my kid for xmas when i was putting it together I noticed the shell on the kick was jacked. anyway after cams I called up guitar center here in town and talk to the drum guy. they told me to bring it in and they'd take a look at it. like I said the kick wasn't right, outta round. no hassle, they replaced it with a all new kit. I was in and outta there in 1/2 hour. all is well. they were great. sweet kit too.

Comments about Sonor Martini 4-Piece Shell Pack:

Great little drumset. Solid hardware and very adjustable riser for the kick pedal. I was able to precisely adjust my beater height for the smaller kick drum and distance the pedal from the drum to get the stroke I'm accustomed to on a bigger bass drum without a bass drum riser. A little experimenting with heads would really make this drum set sound stellar. I replaced the batterhead on the small kick with an Aquarian Performance II Drumhead 14 in and it ts doing well. I imagine the rest of the heads would make a big difference too.

After changing the heads to Evans G2s on the toms and an hydrolic on the kick, huge difference. Only thing that bothers me is the 8" tom..its too long looking.wish it was a 10"x 8"
