Introducing the Sequential Prophet-6

Sequential

collapse expand iconDescription

The Prophet-6 by Sequential is Dave Smith's tribute to the iconic Prophet-5 polysynth. However, the Prophet-6 is not just a reissue, but instead incorporates modern enhancements to the classic analog signal path. With true voltage-controlled oscillators, filters and amplifiers, the Prophet-6 produces a warm, punchy sound with continuously variable waveshapes for a wide tonal palette. There are also two resonant filters, a 4-pole low-pass and a 2-pole high-pass, per voice.

Built-in Digital Effects Expand Your Sound

The Prophet-6 includes high-quality digital effects to sculpt your sound. There are reverbs, delays, chorus and phase shifter effects with studio-grade, 24-bit resolution. A true bypass maintains the analog signal when the effects are off. There is also an independent distortion effect that is completely analog.

Polyphonic Step Sequencer and Arpeggiator Add Rhythm

The polyphonic step sequencer in the Prophet-6 allows you to create up to 64-step sequences with up to six notes per step. You can make polyphonic sequences with rests and sync the sequencer to an external MIDI clock. The arpeggiator can also be synced to an external MIDI clock. Use these tools to create pulsing rhythmic textures and ostinato patterns.

Perform and Program Easily

With a knob-per-function panel, the Prophet-6 is intuitive to program and perform with instantly. There are 500 factory programs and room for 500 of your own user programs. By toggling off the Preset button, you can enable live panel mode where the sound responds directly to the positions of the knobs and switches. The semi-weighted four-octave keyboard is ideal for any musician looking for an analog polyphonic synth that is both portable and powerful.

  • Best analog synth in my stable

I have a lot of analog synths, both old and "re-issued", and this may be the best of the bunch. Great fat and classic sounds, updated features, and just lots of fun to play with.

Incredible synth! Just like owning a new Prophet 5 in 1980 with more capabilities!

  • Best synth I will ever own...

It's a newly designed Prophet-6. Apparently Prophet-5 sounds can be created with this synth. Some of the patches of the Prophet-5 about 30 of them are in this synth for reference. Each patch has its own motion sequences in there and of course you can record your own. This is the best synth I own. It will quickly become my bread and butter synth although I'm also fond of my KRONOS. I use this synth with my classical piano stuff to add character and quirkiness to the sound. I love the arpegiator the most because it is versatile, can be quickly tuned through the Soundtower controller software to the speed of the tune you are working on! The predefined patterns are standard and most of the time do not even need to be changed. All of the preset sequencers patterns are unique. DSI did a great job on those...Its almost like he read our minds. I have no issue finding the most unique sounds to tailor from. I wanted to get out of plugin synths and this synth is the only one I would ever need. Right now it gets more usage than my Virus TI2. I love them both, but the Prophet-6 is now my top synth to go to for my out of this world sounds...The price is steep, but you get what you pay for with this jewel! The craftsmanship, just like the original Sequential Circuits stuff is of impeccable quality...Every button and dial is incredibly musical and not made out of cheap stuff...This is honestly Dave's Smiths best if I'm not mistaking...Some will argue this point, but to my ears it sounds so charming and powerful! Get one if you can!

  • P-6 Sounds Amazing

The P-6 sounds amazing with warm, rich sound reminiscent of versions 2 and 3 of the Prophet-5. The unison function is huge - Stack all 6 voices and add a little slop. The keyboard, however, is entirely too short unless you plan to use the P-6 primarily as a "Lead" type keyboard such as the Minimoog. Purchase the P-6 Module instead and midi it to a keyboard with at least 61 keys. If you were a P-5 fan, you're gonna' love this.

The DSI Prophet 6 is probably the most compelling Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer on the market at the moment. Having learned synthesis on Analog Moog's in the 70's it is clear to me that this little beast is the real deal. A modern Analog PolySynth wrapped in a very modern feature set. It's not a Moog, but then again you can't walk into a music store and buy a modern, programmable 6/12 Voice polyphonic analog Moog. The design and layout is superb, with every knob and control right there in front of you for instant changes in modulation with no menu diving. In fact, there are no menus, just like the Prophet 5, however I did not find that limiting once I got used to it. The included sound set is excellent and much better than the sound set that DSI shipped with the Prophet 8 IMHO. If you are lucky enough to find a store that actually has the Prophet 6 on display you can use the 'Play' function in the sequencer section to preview the sounds. Just select a sound and press 'Play'. I found this virtual 'Demo Mode' by accident and for some reason it is not documented in the P6 manual. This really reduced the amount of time it took me to move through the 500 presets and note the ones that I wanted to go back to. For me, the true analog sound of this machine is what made it stand out from the other DSI offerings, however it was the outstanding Arp/Sequencer and Digital Effects engine that convinced me that it was worth the heavenly price point. The ability to use the Poly-Chain feature to link two Prophet 6's together to create a 12 Voice, Analog tone monster and add in a full size keyboard and integrated power supply and there not much to be desired here. The available third party software really helps to round out the potential for using this in the studio and integrating it into a DAW setup. You get what you pay for here folks and I would not hesitate to recommend the P6 to anyone who is sitting on the fence.
