Roland Cloud Cloud PROMARS Software Synthesizer (Download)

Description
Big Little Brother
Initially designed as a "kid brother" to the JUPITER-4, the deceptively small PROMARS married the stability and flexibility of microprocessor control with the rich sound of analog, and was one of the first synths with onboard memory. This powerful monophonic instrument boasted fat buzzy leads and a powerful low end, proving big things often come in little packages.
Otherworldly Tones
While the JUPITER-4 featured one VCO and one sub-oscillator per voice, PROMARS had two of each. Users could detune them to produce a distinctive unison chorus effect, producing sounds like a four-VCO synthesizer. It sounded positively huge, making it a go-to synth for fat, growling basses and searing lead tones.
Plug In Your Own PROMARS
Our software version of PROMARS perfectly recreates the sound of this rare, vintage instrument using original design specs and a detailed, part-by-part analysis of each analog circuit. But it also features some new capabilities only found in the plug-in:
• Each oscillator has extended range for more flexibility
• The LFO includes a new Random waveform setting
• Full user control of noise and pulse width
• Advanced arpeggiator with tempo sync
• Modern effects: reverb, bit-crusher, and tempo-syncing delay
Hardware Integration
PROMARS is also a PLUG-OUT synthesizer that can be hosted in Roland’s SYSTEM-8, SYSTEM-1, and SYSTEM-1m hardware synthesizers. This means you can work in your computer-based DAW or perform live without a computer using the exact same sounds. You can even send sounds back and forth between the hardware and software, and use the hardware as a hands-on controller.
Lifetime Keys
To install an instrument with a Lifetime Key, you must have a Roland Account. To create your Roland Account, download Roland Cloud Manager, create an account/log in, download your instrument, and redeem your Lifetime Key.

An Excellent Monosynth Recreation of an Overlooked Classic

The Roland Cloud PROMARS is a fantastic member of the Roland Cloud Plug Out family. Its sound is rich & smooth. It's laid out quite intuitively & the interface is large enough that programming doesn't take any time to get used to as opposed to for instance Roland's Cloud Jupiter-4 which is too small for my taste. The oscillators are rich & analog sounding for a plugin. Having the waveforms locked to single types for both oscillators isn't a problem at all. In fact the range of sounds with both oscillators sharing a common waveform is quite remarkable. I especially loved the waveforms with sub oscillators & the sub oscillator by itself which has a completely different character than the pulse. The LFO gets quite fast & I didn't really find a use for the LFO bend feature beyond making the LFO even faster than its usual fastest setting. Both filters are wonderful & compliment the sound of the oscillators quite well. This synth will sit in probably ANY mix along other sounds remarkably. The tone knob is really useful for accentuating the highs or lows and the crusher delay & reverb round off the sound quite well. The only complaint I have is that having a reverb time parameter would have been really useful for creating sounds that are big but not wet. You can achieve this with additional processing so it's not really an issue. The tune knob in the top right corner is so wonderful & makes finding the right frequency resonance for each sound a breeze as having sounds at different reference frequencies will make a track fatter. The only other thing I will add is that I read the original PROMARS was limited to 64 values for each parameter due to being controlled by an early microprocessor for its patch memory. This plugin gives far more fine control so actually it has far more sound options that weren't even possible on the original hardware. All in all the PROMARS is an excellent sounding plugin that will compliment your tracks. I'm so happy I own it.
