Radial Engineering J-ISO Pro-ISO

Description
The Radial J-ISO stero isolator has the smart features of the Radial PRO ISO but with the added sonic excellence of genuine Jensen audio transformers. Jensen transformers are equipped with nickel cores for high input levels before saturation. Their Mu-metal shields offer protection against electromagnetic fields. The result: 100% ground loop isolation for noise elimination, virtually zero phase shift, and they sound great!
To reduce noise problems, the J-ISO is equipped with an audio isolation transformer on each channel that helps eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops. Connections are straight forward: inputs are standard balanced XLR female while outputs include choice of stereo RCA, 3.5mm or standard 1/4".
All connectors and controls are protected with a book-end design and the J-ISO may be rack-mounted in the optional J-Rak (sold separately) or secured to a podium using the J-clamp. This makes the J-ISO an easy-to-use solution for interfacing between pro and consumer electronics and an ideal interface for recording events.
¢Balanced stereo line-level inputs with XLR connectors accept the +4db professional signal standard.
¢Rugged XLR connectors are glass filled nylon, 100% electrically isolated, and eliminate chassis ground potential.
¢Ground lift on outputs can eliminate hum and buzz caused by ground loops.
¢Recessed level control makes fine adjustments to the unbalanced outputs for optimum recordings.
¢Unbalanced -10 db output jacks provide quick and easy patching to any consumer audio device like stereo's and laptops.
¢Book-end design creates a protective zone around the jacks and switches.
¢Full bottom pad improves electrical isolation and keeps the unit in one place.
¢High performance transformer for distortion-free signal transfer and 100% isolation from ground loop hum.
¢Heavy-duty welded i-beam enclosure of 14 gauge steel makes it impossible to torque the pc board and eliminates cold solder joints.
¢Military-grade pc board inside with full ground plane to reduce susceptibility to RF noise.

I ultimately made the decision to purchase this particular item after taking Radial's stellar reputation for high 'overall build quality' into consideration - and the fact that this item is future proof, as it comes with 3x the output options of any other item I'd seen! I also wanted to keep my camera setup and teardown process as lean as possible, without tbe delays introduced when items need to be additionally secured or screwed/unscrewed to my cameras. Using this product, my setup is as follows: (1) Audio inputs (mics, multimedia devices, instrumentation, bands, choirs, i.e. whatever) are first fed through a Behringer X32 digital mixer, where audio for each track is initially mixed and routed to a dedicated recording bus on the X32 in real-time. (2) The live audio output from that dedicated X32 recording bus is routed over XLR to an external sound card and DAW, complete with spectrogragh and LUFS metering, automation, and mastering plugins. (3) The resulting CD quality audio is then routed to an external realtime audio CD recorder over a digital coaxial S/PDIF audio cable, facilitating real-time live audio CD mastering and recording. (4) The mastered live audio output from the CD recorder is then fed into the Radial J-ISO over a balanced XLR connection, where the signal is then converted to an unbalanced audio signal and attenuated to a level that is easily managed with video equipment. (5) Depending on the clients needs, the resulting audio is either fed directly to my video capture device (in a multi-camera setup), or routed through the input of the video camera (in a single camera setup). (6) For the last leg of this signal chain, a real-time video delay is added via video capture software to maintain audio and video synchronization and accounts for any latency that has been introduced by the use of the external sound card and mastering effects. Needless to say, I am very satisfied with this purchase.
Radial J-Iso, Jensen passive -10dBv to +4dBm

This thing is great! Since it is passive you can run in in reverse, like I am, to go from consumer to pro audio into a mic input! I chose this over the Radial J+4 because the J+4 is active so you can only run it the way it was intended, but having a passive unit gives me WAY more options. The J-ISO gives you roughly 14 dB (consumer and pro audio use different decibel scales so it's not exactly 14 dB!) of passive gain through a Jensen (famous for quality) transformer, doesn't require power, adds iron to your signal path, allows you to connect RCA, 3.5mm trs, or 1/4" connectors and run it into your mic pre! So you can record your mp3 player, dj gear, or just about anything into your console. It is not a DI box, so know that it isn't useful for guitars, or other 'hi-z' (high impedance) signals. The ground lift is great too, instantly killing hum, and being able to use balanced connections from any source is just amazing!
