To achieve this, Beard combined aircraft-style weight relief—a method of carving the inside of the brace—with mahogany to reduce the weight while maintaining support, something that is difficult with traditional spruce top braces. This noticeably improves the volume and projection of the guitar, as well as the responsiveness and touch sensitivity of the strings.
