Overall Good Value and Performance

This is the second pair of these I've owned (sold separately not as a pair). So, I like them well enough I've bought again. In our application, we hang two instrument mikes on the side of a stand using these side mount booms. They work great. Areas of caution: On the previous stand I owned, the throat of the clamp on this boom was too wide to attach properly so I had to improvise by making a shim that would take up the extra space. I am currently using this boom on a Hercules stand and I don't have this problem.

Really well built but one major design flaw

I really like the quality build, finish and stability. I downgraded because of the one sided vee clamp. The clamp consists of a vee shaped piece that goes against the back side of mike stand post and a simple screw that presses against the post from the side that bears the weight of the mount. This is a pressure point that can easily cause damage to the mike stand post. All the weight of the microphone and mount (including goose neck if you use one) come to bear on this tiny point of contact against the vertical mike post. If you screw the clamp too tight it will cause a dimple impression into the post and restrict or prevent adjusting the mike stand height. A severe bump into the mount could also cause this damage. On the plus side, I find that this screw does not need to be tightened much at all to provide a very stable side mount. I feel a better design would include a matching vee piece attached to the screw. This was a test purchase for our acoustic society. We need 4 or 5 more side mounts, but will be looking for something else with less potential to damage.

It is just long enough and adjustable enough that I don't have to use a flex extension on it to mic an acoustic guitar. Flex extensions and I don't get along very well.

  • Good

I used it to clamp on one of the legs of my steel guitar so the microphone would be handy to use for singing or announcements. It works perfectly for my intended use ! I did put an extension on it also !! Ken
