A decent beginner Mandolin..

This mandolin is a decent, but great piece of art. I bought this mandolin because I was getting tired of the same old guitar, and I wanted to move on to a more folk, traditional sound. This mandolin fit all of my needs. The only reason why I wouldn't rate this a whole 5 stars, is that the tuning knobs are quite dull and cause the mandolin to fall out of tune quickly (which gets quite irritating to be honest!). Other than that, it's great!

Too expensive for the low quality plus bridge poorly made.

Got this to learn on but it had some serious manufacturing flaws. The bridge was way thicker on one side than the other so there was no way to get it to lay flat leaving about a 1/4 in gap between the bridge and body. Easily goes out of tune. Bridge issues cause the strings to sit so high it was really strenuous to attempt to play. Strings that come on it also cheap and need to be upgraded. Felt extremely light and cheap almost like a toy instrument. Returned it and got the pricier Loar F style much happier with that one.

I've been wanting a mandolin for awhile this one came on sale so I jumped on it. Once I got the mandolin home and started trying to do a setup I realized all of its issues. First the neck is set crooked the last high e string is barely on the fret board. Next the tuners are of such poor quality It was near impossible to get tuned. the saddle slots aren't cut deep enough to the point the g strings wouldn't stay in the grooves. The last problem was the bridge was cut so poorly it had nearly no contact with the sound board. At the end of the day this mandolin is a toy or decoration not a player I'm taking it back and getting the recording king for the same price.

I'm loving the mandolin...a fun instrument. Got this one cheaper than listed then spent $60 on a setup. Once I got about 4 songs in and it was well broken in I realized how poor the intonation is even after setup. Good for someone who just isn't sure they will play long-term.

This is a great beginner Mandolin! You will need to do a set up on it so if you don't know how, YouTube or have a pro did it.

I bought this so I would have a second mandolin in the house, in case my students did not own a mandolin. I love this mandolin. It not only looks good, but it has very nice tone, and the SOLID TOP produces a hearty, woody sound when tremeloing on the double stops. I got this for an incredibly low price, and it is a great addition to complement my other mandolin - an oval hole Eastman. The Eastman at $700, and all solid, is a more quality mandolin, with deeper bass and more powerful, but I honestly think I prefer the sweet Mahagony tone of the Mitchell, over the maple (back & sides) sound of the Eastman. One more thing about the looks of this Mitchell, it has abalone inlay dots on the fingerboard. For a starter mandolin, this one is hard to beat. I even bought one for my sister for her birthday.

Does this product stay tuned while playing? We were told by a musician friend of ours that some of the lower priced mandolins are notorious for untuning after they have been played. Does this one stay tuned decently well?

It has the bottom strap peg installed. They don't typically include the upper one since most players will just use the kind of strap that ties to the headstock, but it could be installed professionally.
