Overlay the U87 frequency response chart with the published specs on this mic and you'll be pleasantly surprised. The only downside and its minor ... there is a sense you are singing into a pillow ... can a mic be a little too 'warm'? Deal for the price!
Great Mic (for the money)

I have been using an Oktava mic that I bought 10 years ago and it never cut the mustard. Because I just used it for demos I never wanted to spend the money on the mic I wanted. Now I have in the last year or so started buying equipment Mac, pro tools, midi controller etc.. I decide I am going to buy a mic, on a budget of $800.00. I went in to Guitar Center and started working with a sales man. I explained what I was looking for and he grabbed several mics some tube, some condensers even a vacuum tube mic. we set up in-front of an m-box mini and without any pre amps or effects we recorded some vocals. (Using the same phrasing and inflection on each mic). Once we finished recording all the mics we went back to listen. Oh my goodness! thats what every one was saying. This mic out preformed mics 2.5 times more expensive and not by a little bit by the truck load. It has a very rich tone and the warmth that you are looking for in a tube mic. This sales man went as far as getting all the other sales man to show them the difference. I have never written a review but this mic at this price deserves a Rave Review! go out and try it like i did you will be surprised.

Well i bought this from guitar center, after the manager told me this is probably the best mic for me to start off with. well, i've been recording for the past couple of month working on my album and one thing i have noticed alot is that this mic statics up ALOT which is really annoying, and i looked online and alot of reviews online (not on here) say the same thing, everyone or mostly everyone who has this mic has a static issue, i would not recommend this mic to anyone.
Excellent Mic

I have been using this mic as my "go to" studio mic for about 2 years. I have a mid-range male vocal that is a little scratchy and this was the first mic I have owned that captures my sound and translates it in a rock mix. I use it with a Studio Projects VTB-1. I did have to replace the Shock Mount as it broke when I over tightened it. If it broke I would replace it or try the MXL Genesis if I had a few extra upgrade $$$. Very pleased.
