Gibson Songwriter Standard Acoustic-Electric Guitar Rosewood Burst

Description
Gibson's Songwriter Standard acoustic-electric guitar blends the manufacturer's time-honored designs with modern enhancements for an instrument that sounds as stunning as it looks. The square-shoulder dreadnought body, constructed from premium tonewoods like a solid Sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides, produces full, balanced tone with clear, ringing highs and rich lows. LR Baggs VTC electronics provide impeccable plugged-in performance for live playing or recording. With its natural finish and vintage-inspired appointments like a tortoiseshell pickguard, the Songwriter Standard evokes the Americana roots of Gibson acoustics while packing modern playability and electronics that make it a dream for professional and aspiring artists alike.
LR Baggs VTC Pickup Delivers Dynamic, Articulate Tone
The Songwriter Standard's LR Baggs VTC pickup translates the guitar's acoustic properties with stunning depth and nuance. It captures the dreadnought's full frequency range and dynamic sensitivity, allowing for articulate fingerpicking or aggressive strumming. Tone controls provide flexible EQ for dialing in the ideal sound based on playing style and environment. Whether recording in the studio or performing on stage, the VTC pickup ensures the Songwriter Standard projects with clarity and musicality.
Premium Tonewoods Produce a Rich, Complex Voice
The Songwriter Standard's solid Sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides are prized for their tonal qualities. The spruce top resonates with bell-like clarity while the rosewood body generates warmth and depth. Together they create an evenly balanced, highly responsive voice with shimmering highs, firm lows and lush overtones. The tonewoods only improve with age and playing time as the guitar breaks in, producing a vintage patina on both the sound and appearance.
Vintage-Inspired Appointments Meet Modern Playability
From its antique natural finish to the tortoiseshell pickguard, the Songwriter Standard exudes vintage Gibson style. It also plays with contemporary comfort thanks to its slim square-shoulder dreadnought body, cutaway design and fast-playing neck profile. The combination of timeless esthetics and a performance-focused build results in an acoustic that looks, sounds and feels like a classic but handles like a modern instrument.

I had been playing a Taylor 814ce and just couldn't get the sound or the tone that I wanted. I went in to the store and tried several guitars and when I got to the songwriter, the heaven's opened up. I had already sold the Taylor and was worried that I'd made a mistake. No mistake.

This model doesn't have the history or the celebrity associations that some of Gibson's other acoustics enjoy, which might be one of the reasons it's not more popular, but that's a shame. The Songwriter is a great dreadnaught. It is a bit more mid-focused and less loud than my D-18, but it feels so great to play and sounds so sweet and resonant (mine is a 2004 that has had time to open up) that I quickly bonded with it, and it has become my one go-to "buddy" acoustic. The D-18 now spends most of its time in the case. In the past I have not liked the Gibson acoustics that I've tried. I did have an Epiphone J-200 for years, and the J-200 is one of the few Gibson acoustics with the longer scale length, so that might have something to do with it. Although the longer scale makes strumming less "flubby," the neck still feels a lot like my Les Paul, which is very comfortable. If you're hesitant, or if you're not a fan of, say, a Hummingbird or a J-45, this is still worth a try. It's a great guitar that I think deserves more recognition than it gets.

I've had mine a little over a year. It is so beautiful that I keep giving it another chance but it just doesn't sing like my Martin D-35.The base especially falls flat. Doesn't sustain like the Martin. Doesn't have nearly the big sound of the Martin. I have ordered medium gauge 80/20 bronze strings in the hope that it will make a difference. Well see.....
The rosewood burst songwriter is an excellent guitar.

This guitar is one of the best. The neck has a great feel and action is smooth. When you strum or pick, it really has a rich sound. It projects loud like a lot of top end Martins. It is great for bluegrass and well for fingerpicking. I'm very satisfied with this guitar.
