Gibson

collapse expand iconDescription

The Gibson Dove Original acoustic-electric guitar, originally introduced in the 1960s, is intertwined with the revolutionary music of its era and still produces the versatile, balanced tone that made it famous. At its heart is a Sitka spruce top that provides punch, clarity and powerful projection, amplified by a 25.5" scale length and flame maple back and sides for a crisp, bright tone. The LR Baggs VTC pickup system accurately translates every nuance to your amplifier or PA. Classic Dove details include a bone nut and saddle, nickel Grover tuners and an engraved pickguard featuring a hand-painted dove.

Square-Shoulder Design Offers Highly Versatile Tone

The Gibson Dove Original's iconic square-shoulder body shape is the key to its versatility. Balancing warmth and clarity, the square shoulder design is ideal for any musical style. Fingerpickers, strummers and pickers alike will appreciate the Dove Original's ability to convey the full dynamic range of their playing.

Sitka Spruce Top Provides Punch, Clarity and Powerful Projection

At the heart of the Gibson Dove Original's tone is a solid Sitka spruce top. Lightweight yet durable, Sitka spruce is the preferred top wood for acoustic guitars due to its ability to faithfully reproduce a wide range of musical tones with punch, clarity and volume. When paired with maple back and sides, the spruce top helps the Dove Original cut through any mix.

LR Baggs VTC Pickup System Accurately Amplifies Your Tone

The Gibson Dove Original comes equipped with an LR Baggs VTC pickup system, which accurately amplifies the natural tone of the guitar. Featuring volume and tone controls, the VTC system conveys the Dove Original's dynamic range and frequency response to any acoustic amplifier or PA system. Whether performing live or recording in the studio, you'll enjoy the same full, balanced tone of the unplugged Dove Original.

Classic Dove Details Define This Legendary Guitar

Several classic details contribute to the Gibson Dove Original's distinctive appearance and tone. A bone nut and saddle provide exceptional sustain and clarity. Nickel Grover tuners keep the Dove Original in tune through lively performances or recording sessions. An engraved pickguard bears a hand-painted dove, a symbol of the peace and harmony this guitar is built to produce. With double antiqued binding and a traditional truss rod cover, every detail of the Dove Original reflects its important place in music history.

I'm a casual player of 40 years and enjoy all 16 of my guitars. The Dove has always been a goal of mine, and I've been very happy (as expected) with it's playability and sound. Certainly the best of my small collection.

I bought one of the Bozeman ,MT Doves a few years ago, and at the time compared the lightly used guitar to a Martin D-28, HD-28V and a Taylor 814ce. The articulation, volume, warmth and sustain really surprised me, especially when compared to gold standard guitars in the same environment.. It's a Gibson, so expect the nitro finish to lightly check and crack along the way. Over all sound is like a cross between a J200 and a D-28, big rich and warm. When Tom Petty's house caught on fire 35 years ago, this is the guitar he saved as he ran out the door!
