Friedman SmallBox head

Description
The Small Box 50W 2-Channel Tube Guitar Amp Head offers the best of both worlds for guitarists seeking legendary amp tones. This all-tube, handwired amp head packs 50 watts of power provided by EL34 power tubes and 12AX7 preamp tubes, delivering the rich harmonic complexity and touch sensitivity that only tubes can provide. Two footswitchable channels offer a clean British-voiced channel with a bright switch for sparkling cleans or crunchy rhythms as well as a high-gain channel for searing leads and heavy distortion.
Versatile Tone-Shaping Controls
A shared 3-band EQ provides tone control over the entire amp, allowing you to cut mids for a scooped metal tone or boost treble and bass for vintage blues. A global presence control adds in high-frequency content, allowing your tone to cut through the mix. An effects loop allows you to patch in your favorite time-based effects without affecting the pure tube tone.
Handwired for Premium Tone
The Small Box is handwired in the USA using only the highest quality components like custom transformers, ensuring rich tone, touch sensitivity and reliability. Players and sound engineers alike will appreciate the craftsmanship that has gone into this amp, allowing it to hold its own on any professional stage or studio.
Footswitchable Channels for Versatility
The clean channel offers sparkling cleans and mild breakup with just guitar volume changes, perfect for blues, classic rock and pop. Switch to the high-gain channel for heavier rock and metal with distortion and sustain for days. A single button footswitch is included, allowing you to toggle between channels on the fly.
Classic EL34 and 12AX7 Tube Combination
The EL34 power tubes and 12AX7 preamp tubes are responsible for the rich, complex overdrive and sensitive touch response that tube amps are known for. From clean to overdrive, this amp responds dynamically to your playing for an organic, fluid tone.

Everything about this amp ROCKS! I really love my strat through the plexi channel #1. Just the right amount of gain with the gain all the way up and my spark boost in front! Cant wait to go live with it!

I have owned around 100 high end amp heads and this Smallbox excels at Marshall rock tone and Fender Bassman tones. The EQ is more sensitive than a vintage Marshall however it is also quite capable of producing unusable tones. Very responsive to different guitar types and pickups as well as picking attack. Would benefit from a depth control.

Nails the Plexi tone and gives even more when needed. I found that the EVH Celestions match perfectly with it for a great overall rock/blues tone. The cleans are great and I believe this amp to be worth every penny and more. The amp itself is loud loud loud but can be dialed down for at home use. Couldn't be happier with the choice. Thanks.

I have been playing for over 30 years, currently own a Peavey JSX combo and a multitude of strats, one LP and an EVH Wolfgang. My fave guitar players range from EVH, George Lynch (most 80s guitar players), David Gilmour, etc. I went to the Hollywood Guitar Center which has numerous high end amps. I ended up playing the Friedman BE, Pink Taco, Small Box and the Soldano SLO. To my ears, the Small Box was the perfect amp. This amp isn't cheap, but think of all the money you waste buying and selling amps looking for the perfect tone. This is the perfect tone to my ears. All other amps in my past pale by comparison. Besides the tone, this 2 channel amp just FEELS right. It is by far the most dynamic amp I've ever used. You can go from dirty to clean just by picking softer--without even touching the guitar volume knob! The Small Box fills the room with rich tone. Channel 1 (Plexi channel) can be absolutely pristine, or total AC/DC crunch. Run the gain halfway and have a great crunchy rhythm tone, and back off your volume for clean. Channel 2 (BE channel) is my territory. Chords and notes JUMP out of this channel. Forget reverb - add a nice slap back delay in the loop and you are set. My EVH phase and old Tube Screamer round out the front pedals. I also got the Friedman 4X12 cabs which match perfectly. If you want to stop chasing tone, the Friedman line is the way to go.

I've almost had or played every guitar head out there, Bogner, Diezel, Engl, Mesa, etc. This head is in a league of its own. It's a very easy and simple amp to dial in. I LOVE the clean (plexi) channel. It's so natural sounding and gives you the perfect combination of clean to just enough dirt. Add a Tube Screamer and you get this beautiful vintage Hendrix tone. Channel two puts you in Nirvana, from AC/DC to old Van Halen. This head loves foot pedals, very transparent and perfectly mixed. I highly recommend this head for almost every genre of music.
