EVANS Hybrid Sensory Percussion Sound System: How To / Setup Tutorial

Description
There are days when it may seem as if the digital revolution has largely passed drummers by. With the EVANS Hybrid Sensory Percussion Sound System, a collaboration between EVANS and Sunhouse, those days are gone. This groundbreaking system combines revolutionary software and hardware to step far beyond any trigger-based setup, transforming any acoustic drum kit into a powerful, versatile controller that expands your kit to the limits of your sonic imagination.

Sensors Step Beyond Triggers
Unlike traditional triggers, the EVANS Hybrid Sensory Percussion Sound System sensors use a magnetic field to read the vibrations of your drum heads, without making direct contact with your heads. This lets the drum head vibrate freely and enables the sensor to create up to 10 separate zones for each head, allowing it to play a unique sound for each different part of the drum. Each zone is fully programmable with the included software. Add in the incredible dynamics capability of the system, and a single drum can become an entire orchestra. The sensors themselves are compatible with almost any snare, tom or kick drum—there's even a suppled adapter for using with EVANS EMAD kick drum heads. Start with the three included in the base system and add additional ones as needed with handy expansion packs.

An Interface That’s a Portal to New Sounds
The EVANS Portal audio interface is where the next part of the Hybrid Sensory Percussion Sound System magic happens. Designed by drummers, for drummers, it starts with a quality USB audio interface which features a pair of combo XLR mic/line inputs, dual line inputs and multiple outputs, including a multi-channel ADAT optical out. Then, it adds on seven dedicated plug-and-play inputs for easy setup of your drum kit with the Sensory Sound System sensors.

Software to Take Drums Where They’ve Never Gone Before
If the sensors and interface are the ears of the system, the immensely powerful Sunhouse software is the brain behind it all. But for all that power, it's amazingly easy to set up and use. With a huge, continuously expanding sound and effects library, plus incredibly tight control over how your playing expression and dynamics control sequences, notes, chords, effects and more, anything you imagine can become a musical reality.

Everything You Need in One Box
The base system includes everything you need to get started, aside from your computer, drum kit and sticks. Inside the box, you'll find the EVANS Portal Audio interface, three sensors, plus the EMAD adapter, a dozen of the pickup elements that install on your drum head, a universal power supply and all the needed cables, as well as a QR code to download, install and register the Sunhouse software. You'll be expanding your sonic horizons within minutes.

One System for Multiple Kits
One of the biggest advantages of the system is the versatility of available setups. Whether you want to create a hybrid acoustic/electronic kit, supplement your existing kit, or use EVANS mesh heads to create a silent kit that's perfect for practice or low-volume gigs, you can do it all. And with the flexibility of the sensor system, you can apply the readily available pickup elements on every drum you own, and create multiple sets stored in memory. Discover a whole new musical world with the EVANS Hybrid Sensory Percussion Sound System.
