EVH Striped Series 5150 Electric Guitar Red, Black, and White Stripes

Description
The EVH Striped Series 5150 is a high-performance electric guitar inspired by Eddie Van Halen's famous red, white and black striped instrument from 1984. This ax delivers a growling tone and extreme playability thanks to premium components hand-selected to Eddie's exacting standards. The basswood body provides a solid base for the bolt-on quartersawn maple neck and 12"-16" compound-radius maple fingerboard, allowing fast playing across all 22 jumbo frets.
Custom Humbucker Growls with Aggressive Mids
The 5150 is fitted with a custom designed EVH Wolfgang Alnico 2 humbucker bridge pickup, delivering punchy lows, crisp highs and hot-rodded mids with truckloads of crunch and singing sustain. A custom low-friction volume knob provides unmatched performance and tapered volume swells.
Dive-Bomb-Ready Floyd Rose Bridge
Decked out with an EVH-branded Floyd Rose bridge, each tailpiece features fine tuners and a patented EVH D-Tuna for instant drop-D tuning. Experience extreme tremolo techniques with confidence in this rock-solid system.
Iconic Striped Esthetic
With its quintessential red 5150 hologram numbers, star decals and striped finish, the 5150 is a high-powered, high-performance machine that's as sweet to look at as it is to play. This throwback model is a fitting tribute to the pivotal instrument that shaped the sound of '80s hard rock and influenced generations of guitarists.
Premium Components from Top to Bottom
From the chrome hardware and EVH-branded tuners to the .009-.042 gauge strings, no detail has been overlooked in crafting this shred-ready machine.

Plays very well and sounds the part.
While this guitar sounds great for all rock music not requiring a neck pickup, it certainly sounds like it looks when throwing some VH tunes at it. If the skill and equipment setup is there, the tone is scary close to the original. Lot's of fun!! My favorite part of this guitar is the neck. It's solid and fast. The rolled fingerboard edge and hand oiled finish really enhance the feel and accuracy of playing. I played the guitar out just last night with only a few days of getting used to it and it was by far a hit with the audience as much as it felt and sounded fantastic. A few issues and surprises prevent me from giving all 5 stars are listed below: 1) No case included with its handsome price. 2) The supplied strings would not stay in tune or settle down from an excessively bright tone. The Fix? D'Addarrio Pure Nickel 9-42 strings. Stayed in tune instantly, sounded better with thicker mids and smoother highs, and felt less prickly to the touch. NOTE: (The factory setup was tuned to Eb standard, where it remains) 3) The side marker dots are all off center! Really?? They are all shifted to the bridge side of the neck, almost enough that the double 12th fret marker looks very off. 4) Another general surprise was finding out it was made in Mexico when sales affirmed that it was a USA model when I ordered it six weeks ago and even on the EVH site there is no mention where the guitar model is actually made that I can find clearly at the time of this review.

Mrs. Clause surprised me on Christmas morning. This EVH 5150 sounds and feels great. The neck/fret board is as smooth as a baby's butt. The only [small] complaint is that the description says that the body has a gloss finish. It does not, it's more of a satin finish.

I can't believe how well this guitar played right out of the cardboard box! I needed to tune it, but the action was amazing from the get-go. It hasn't needed any adjustments at all. It sounds great and plays even better. I can't put it down.

I've loved evh from the very first moment I heard him. And when I was around 12 years old when I saw his guitar, I've always wanted it. Now I have it!!! I'm in love and play it everyday for hours at a time. And I've only played VH songs with it. I highly recommend this guitar. My next purchase will either be the frankie or the black and white striped one.
