The GX-100 Is Amazing!

This is the 3rd effects processor like this that I have owned. Now I see what all of the other's were trying to do. I played many different units before settling on the Boss GX-100. Several that cost twice as much money. The GX-100 is by far the best you can get sound wise at any price! It is much easier to program than any other one that I've seen and you can make incredible sounding patches in very little time. It truly does sound very amazing! I'm no programmer. I hate to do it. So when I say you can get great sounds quickly then you know that it's not too hard to do. The touch screen has a lot to do with that. I play live with it run straight through the PA I rehearse the same way and right now I practice my guitar with headphones. I have a headrush 8" FRFR ordered. If you're looking for a modeling pedal I very highly recommend the Boss GX-100. It is truly a pleasure to own. Oh, I've been playing guitar since the early 70's.

Solid effects, okay amps

Pros: built like a tank, good effects, flexible signal path, touch screen, great button assignment posibilities, very flexible Cons: amp models need serious work, bring your own impulse responses, the graphics on the UI are straight out of an Atari 2600 from the way back machine It's a unit that has serious promise, and the clean amp tones are really good. But the distortions required too much work. As much as I didn't really gel with the Helix units, they were still a leg up. I ended up returning this unit.

Was wanting a multi fx unit instead of buying ALL the pedals and fx types I wanted and then hooking them all up and then trying to find a switcher and then trying to power it all. Boss is tried and true — I had a GT-8 that I loved. This is better! The touchscreen makes it so easy to dial in what I want. I've dialed in some great sounds with this thing. Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed with all the possibilities, but I still like having those possibilities. Lots of connectivity options as well. This is why I was looking for.

It has everything I needed for a compact rig. I went through a few different brands but this one can be customized the way you need. Amps sounds are not the best, they feel digital but when you are playing with other instruments, blends pretty well and have a nice feel. It's not too big, no too small, very easy to use and versátil. Can't compliment this enough

If you are looking to use your iPad or iPhone with the gx-100, I'd stay away since the app doesn't have landscape mode and is extremely slow. It takes over 30 seconds to connect and switch between presets. Boss hasn't updated the app since they initially launched it and they don't appear to want to update it.

It is easy to use. The boss studio tone app is amazing. It allows you to create sounds that you'd never imagine. It is powerful and the dual line/ amp function is also a great "plus" when creating a preset from scratch. Most of the presets that come with it are close to perfect, but you can still modify parameters if you please.

So can I hook this up to my 5150 80w Iconic amp? Because I'm using the amps distortion but need certain effects like chorus flanger and phaser and a few others! Because the headrush from my knowledge you couldn't hook up to your amp

So can I hook this up to my 5150 80w Iconic amp? Because I'm using the amps distortion but need certain effects like chorus flanger and phaser and a few others! Because the headrush from my knowledge you couldn't hook up to your amp

    Open Reply - Gear-Support
Yes, you can hook a BOSS GX-100 into your EVH 5150 Iconic 80W amp — but how you do it depends on what you want to achieve. Into the Front Input (simplest method): Just run a standard guitar cable from the GX-100's output into the front input of the 5150 Iconic. Set the GX-100 output mode to something like "Line/Combo Amp" or "Stack Input" (depending on your taste — experiment a little). Turn off or minimize preamp/amp models in the GX-100 if you mainly want to use your 5150’s preamp. You can still use the GX-100’s effects (reverbs, delays, mods, etc.). Your tone will be "colored" by the 5150’s preamp. Four-Cable Method (4CM) — best for using both preamps properly: Connect guitar → GX-100 input. GX-100 Send → 5150 front input. 5150 FX Send → GX-100 Return. GX-100 Output → 5150 FX Return. This lets you: Put drives, boosts, and wahs in front of the 5150’s preamp. Insert modulation, delay, and reverb after the amp's distortion (in the effects loop). Choose whether to use the 5150 preamp or GX-100 amp models (or blend them creatively). Straight into the Effects Return (power amp only) Plug the GX-100’s output directly into the 5150’s FX Return. This bypasses the 5150's preamp completely — you’re just using the 5150’s power amp. This method is great if you want the GX-100’s amp modeling to be your "main amp tone." Great if you want to use the GX-100 as the "brain." If you love the 5150 tone, use 4CM. If you want GX-100 to be the full rig, plug into the FX Return. For simple jams, just run into the front input.

Does this replace the need for effects pedals? I.e.: metal zone, overdrive, delay, reverb, etc.? Trying to put together a pedalboard with multiple different chains that can be switched between, Wondering if this is the solution.
