BD-2W Blues Driver WAZA CRAFT

Description
The BOSS BD-2W Blues Driver Waza Craft guitar effects pedal is a premium incarnation of the legendary BD-2 overdrive pedal. Meticulously designed by BOSS' master engineers in Japan, the BD-2W delivers a refined stomp experience for guitarists chasing the ultimate in customized tone. Its all-analog circuitry captures the classic BD-2 grit in Standard mode, while the Custom mode unlocks new levels of warmth and sustain.
Premium Components and Circuitry for Superior Sound
The BD-2W is a testament to the commitment from BOSS to achieving the finest tones through the fusion of old-school analog design and modern innovation. Each pedal is handcrafted in Japan to strict quality standards, with final approval given only after intensive listening tests. Premium components and an optimized circuit board provide exceptionally rich and touch-responsive overdrive sounds.
Standard and Custom Modes for Legendary or Modern Blues Tones
The BD-2W delivers the iconic overdrive tone that made the original BD-2 a legend, along with an all-new sound in Custom mode. Standard mode produces the familiar warm and natural overdrive for which the BD-2 is renowned. Activating Custom mode enhances the pedal's gain range and alters its frequency response, resulting in a fuller tone with enhanced body and sustain—ideal for contemporary blues and rock styles.
Road-Ready Design
Like all BOSS compact pedals, the BD-2W is built to withstand the rigors of the road. Its space-efficient size and robust metal chassis provide durability and protection, while the intuitive controls are designed for simple and reliable operation. Powered by a 9V battery or optional power supply (sold separately), the BD-2W is ready to drive your tone wherever your music takes you.

Is this pedal for you? I suppose that depends on what you're looking for. So let's start with what this pedal isn't. As you might expect from a pedal called the blues driver. It's not for metal. Of any kind. It is however perfectly suited to blues, and will work for classic rock just as well. You could probably even stretch into country a bit, but that's about it. It also isn't a tube screamer. Which is good, because if that's what you want. So if you want a tube screamer get that, not this. Alright, let's talk about what this is. A Great sounding pedal, that can get some pretty diverse tones. I've found it impersonates David Gilmour's tone on the 2nd solo of comfortably numb pretty well via a low saturation boost. Which has a great percussive effect when doing so. Crank the gain up and it does the wall of sound thing with power chords nicely. In other words. It has a lot more gain on tap than the TS808. Again, it's not a TS. It's smooth, creamy, and despite this. Very clear and articulated, with lot's of definition on single notes. Even under heavy gain loads. So what sets this Waza Craft edition apart? It's quite a bit less noisy, and has the custom circuit mode. Which beefs of the sound quite a bit by adding some mid range. So is the custom mode better? No. It's just different. Gives you more tonal options, which is good because the middy custom mode might sound flat on a Marshall, while the standard mode could be harsh through a fender. Depending on what kind of guitar you're using, and how you EQ. Is it worth paying an extra $60 for the Waza version? That all depends on you, how much you have to spend, what else you need, and what you're using it for. And what kind of pickups you're using. I would say beginner - intermediate players can save themselves some $$$ and buy the original. Gigging mucians, advanced level players, and people who do a lot of recording will probably appreciate the lower noise threshold, and wider tone palette.

If you like the BD2 blues pedal, but don't like the noise or want more bottom, this is the pedal to have. The noise floor is clearly lower to the point to that I didn't need a noise gate in the effects chain. That's a big win when you're short on pedal board space or just trying to keep it tidy. The BD2w retains the classic "fizz" while allowing you to switch to a new mode that adds clarity and bottom end. It's an obvious improvement in the studio and intimate venues. I can't really hear much difference in larger venues with the volume cranked, although it's surely there. Is it worth the money? Absolutely.
Makes my solos sound way better than they are.

I'm a long time bass player turned guitarist. It's been a journey finding my tone, this was the last piece of that puzzle. The custom position makes you sound like a F'n rock god. My favorite and most useful pedal I own.
