This thing sounds great. The only drawback is the post transformer line out is pretty noisy. But the post eq preamp out sounds fantastic.
Great sounding Ampeg tube sound without the SVT weight!

Great head. Plenty of power for house, small gig's and studio if you want to mic it. I have no problem with it.
Not perfect.

I love the sound and ease of use. I consider this to be a classic Ampeg product like the SVT, V4b and B15. It will likely be a go to amp for years to come because of its usefulness. Where it doesn't work so well for me is it's design. They should've put it in a box or at least put handles on it and designed a quality carrying case for it. I have the QSC monitor bag that many players recommend but that bag is pretty roomy and I don't think it protects it as well as a padded bag that was designed for would. Or better yet, a head box. I deduct 2 stars because it's seems sort of like the designers quit before their job was done because it sorta looked like an old Portaflex head. I think they thought this head would be used as a flip top with the 115 portaflex cab but it's not not super practical to do that. Hopefully Ampeg/Yamaha reads these reviews and will take my suggestions into consideration.

PF-50T Portaflex 50W Tube Bass Amp Head added the tube sound is was missing. PF-50T using speaker out to Bergantino 12 inch CN 112. I use one PF-50T preamp out to QSC 3602 powering Glockenklang 4 X 10, another PF-50T preamp out to (Bergantino Forte) or (Gallien Krueger MB Fusion 800) to Aguilar SL112. Ridiculous overkill sound. Ability to have clean from Bergantino, fullness from PF 50T. You can EQ different setups to get a variety of great sounds. Compared to my SVT very full tube sound but with definition I cannot get on SVT. Okay I only play the Aguilar SL112 or Bergantino CN112 at church with PF-50T Portaflex. One little tube amp can make everything else sound better, with great dollar value. Played with Sadowsky 4 string, Marcus Miller V9, Marcus Miller M7, F Bass 5 string E-C, Fender Jazz, Fender Precision, Marcus Miller Fender, and Jaco Pastorious Fender Fretless.

How loud will this tube amp get using a generic ported 15 inch cab?
I’m sorry, I don’t know. That depends on the speaker. It would need to be tested.
