This Yairi FYM66HD Masterworks OM Honduran Mahogany acoustic is a stunning little guitar made from old-growth Honduran mahogany which has been naturally seasoning for 50 years in the perfect climate of Kani, Japan. The Yairi FYM66HD Masterworks OM Honduran Mahogany is rich and warm sounding with wonderful strong mids and round, bell like trebles.

The guitar itself is very light in weight due to the quality of the wood and thin finish; you feel it resonating as it instantly responds to your requests. Its projection is open and its volume for an OM body size is loud. Being a Yairi its intonation is incredible and the all-around spec of the guitar is of the highest level with the amazing Gotoh 510 tuners and ebony bridge, fingerboard and headstock veneer.

How They Came To Be
This magical line of Yairi Masterworks guitars came about, almost by accident, as Alvarez-Yairi designers were detailing the specs of a guitar for a wonderful player named Jack Pearson. It was thought that Adirondack spruce paired with Honduran mahogany would be the best combination needed for Jack’s tonal requests.

Mr. Yairi amassed an incredible amount of tonewood throughout his life and although most is in or around the factory, some was stored on a piece of land he owned some miles away. The Alvarez team would go and see the wood on every trip to Kani, it became a ritual after lunch, but because most of the supply had darkened due to the elements making them unsure what all of it was. Looking back now, Mr. Yairi may have been thinking, "One day they will realize what is in here."

Well that day came. Suspecting that Mr. Yairi had a supply of Honduran mahogany on his piece of land they travelled there again, and what they found in terms of tonewood was pure gold; perfectly conditioned billets of old growth Honduran mahogany that had been naturally seasoning for around 50 years…unbelievable.

Had Alvarez's team not discussed Honduran mahogany for Jack’s guitar they may have never discovered such a treasure. This series celebrates this amazing wood, arguably the best tonewood of all, and it also celebrates Mr. Yairi’s lifelong (and beyond) commitment to his art.

Honduran Series are some of the best guitars Alvarez-Yairi have ever made and offer incredible value for such highly specified, inspiring handmade instruments.

This is an absolutely beautiful guitar in both sound and looks. It's Stunning! Now, straight out of the box, the action was high, so I took it in and had a setup done. The play-ability of the Yairi FYM66HD is now amazing. It is smooth and easy to play. I have 2 Taylor 12 fret guitars and this Alvarez Yairi FYM66HD blows them both out of the water. It is truly a pleasure to play. I can't put it down. Best guitar purchase I have ever made. Thank you Alvarez and Mr. Yairi for this beautiful instrument.

Here is the truth: Even though it is not an inexpensive guitar, make no mistake: This is an heirloom quality instrument for a steal of a price. The fit and finish are perfect. The workmanship is world class. The looks are stunning. The playability is fantastic out of the box. The sound is huge and beautiful. It's stunning, really. There are a few things to consider here: There will be no more of this Honduran Mahogany available once it runs out. It'll just be gone. The wood has been seasoned for 50+ years now. It's stable and beautiful looking and sounding. There is probably nowhere else on earth that has this wood, seasoned as such. There are a total of about 24 highly skilled luthiers at the Yairi shop in Kani. This is not a factory built guitar. This is a hand-built instrument made with great care by dedicated, lifetime artisans. There is certainly nobody else on earth or any other planet with all of the above in one situation. I had the extreme fortune to play 3 of these in the store when trying them out. The neck profile on all 3 is to die for. The soft v into the soft c is gorgeous and the satin finish is buttery smooth. They were all amazing, but all had their own personality. One was mid-scooped and GORGEOUS on the high and low ends, one was somewhat treble forward and would have been a killer for playing leads. The other was very well balanced. I chose the balanced one, but I agonized for hours because they were all great, and none of them lacked anything. The bass is warm, and stout for an OM, the trebles ring forever, and where this guitar really shines is in the mids. When fingerpicked, it is a dream for folk, blues, country, anything really. When hit with a pick? Look OUT. It's a cannon. Can it truly compete with a top end Martin Dreadnaught? Maybe not for sheer, top end volume, or if you need that particular rosewood snap in a loud, unamplified Bluegrass jam. But I assure you that it will crush anything lesser than a D28 which will run you a thousand+ more dollars. I've never heard a louder, more lush sounding OM. It doesn't have a weakness. I mean that sincerely. If you don't believe me, go watch JP Cormier review it on YouTube. Everything he says and demonstrates is true. And like anything online, it sounds better in person. If it said Martin, Gibson, or Taylor on the headstock, it would cost you 4-5k EASILY. There's NO way they would charge less than that considering: Material quality (50+year seasoned Honduran Mahogany, Ebony, Abalone) Material rarity Hand built Limited availability due to shop size Level of detail/workmanship Appointments I will likely never buy another acoustic guitar.
