The perfect PAF for those who want some extra edge

By Mr. N.

from Ithaca, MI

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I ordered a pair of Pearly Gates to replace the stock ones in my Epiphone Les Paul and it's easily one of the best decisions I've ever made. Not only did the tone get a lot more full and defined, it had that little extra edge I desired while retaining the guitar's natural tone. A big reason I went for these is because I wanted 4-conductor humbuckers to do the Jimmy Page wiring. Even in single-coil mode, in series, or out of phase, the sounds from the pickups are, well, heavenly. They can handle clean tones to bluesy overdrive to face-melting metal without breaking a sweat. If you like the look of covered 'buckers (like I do), I recommend getting Gibson's neck-spaced covers for both pickups. Even for the bridge pickup, Gibson's bridge-spaced cover is too wide for the pole pieces to fit through.

Awesome Pup!

By Dusty

from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I've used a Pearly Gates in the neck position of every humbucker-housed guitar I've owned in the past two years. It's the perfect warm, buttery, Texas-toast sound to compliment the ballsy, edgier sound of a raw bridge humbucker! It's smooth distortion is the flipside to it's lovely clean sound. The PG rings true to it's name, as it's heavenly in all things TONE!

The pearly gates is king

By Leonidas

from Pennsylvania

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

Seymour Duncan's Perly Gates model is superb. It stays in the range of the Patent Applied For tone of the original humbucker, while adding a little extra. It has a bit more edge and midrange, as well as four conductor cables for doing coil-splitting. Seymour Duncan pickups are top of the line and so is their customer service.

Great tone

By lowchevy2

from Whitsett, NC

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

Couldn't be happier with the pearly gates pickups I just put in my Epiphone Les Paul Custom. The stock pickups were just dead so I put these in and its like I got a new guitar. Great clean sound on either pickup and really smooth distorted tone running through Boss MT-2 Metal Zone pedal. A lot hotter than I thought they would be and really hits tht Billy F. Gibbons sound. I would recommend to anybody.

Pearlybag Darrell

By Me

from Granite City ,Illinois

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I recently decided to replace the pickups in my old Washburn Dimebag Darrell Signature Model. The originals had started to sound like they were dragging my tone through a bog. The guy at guitar center sold me on the Pearly Gates, and I slapped that sucker in the neck position. Anywhere from super clean to searing distortion, doesn't matter, this pickup makes the axe sing like I've never heard before. The perfect compliment to the Dimebucker I threw in the bridge.I'd give it more stars if I could!

Suprised!!!!

By Jay

from Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I bought this pickup a couple days ago. A Bridge model. I Installed it as soon as I got home and was extremely suprised. It has a good rich Texas burn, crunch when you need it, smooth when ease down on the distortion. It's perfect for all styles in my opinion. I've been playing for 4 years and I've been searching for the perfect pickup. The Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates is definitely a good choice if you want some kick but well rounded sound. I'm planning on installing one in the neck ASAP. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Texas in a small package

By Clinton Medicine Crow

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

Replaced the stock pickups in my Gibson Les Paul and what a diffrence! These pickups have delivered everything and more that was advertised. The tone really jumps out with these babies. While the Pearly Gates' have more "power" than the stock Gibson's they are not too hot, seem to be just right to replicate Billy Gibbons well known tone. While I highly recommend these to those who desire to replicate Billy's sound they are great for getting a good classic rock tone as well. Sound best when paired with a tube amp and an overdrive pedal.

wake up for a les paul..

By Richard

from Las Vegas, NV

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I threw one of these in the neck of my epi les paul and it sounds fantastic. I get nice, warm, bluesy-paf tones from this rather clean or slightly driven. It works really well for classic or southern rock as well. The ONLY reason I gave it a 4 is because, c'mon, 100 bucks?! really?! The price is outrageous, there are dimarzio pickups that sound just as good for 2/3 the price. But I do love the pickup.

extraordinary.

By Ali

from sanford, fl

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I have a epiphone les paul jr, which had a stock pickup. I upgraded that to the pearly gates and i couldnt believe it. Perfect all around for what im playing. It just goes to show, you dont need a expensive guitar to make it sound good, you need a pearly gates. I even found this better than the p-94t, which is the same tone as the p-90, which is on the original les paul model. This thing is great i suggest it to anyone in need of a replacement.

Excellent replacement pup

By Michael Guadagno

from Orlando, FL

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

The Pearly Gates are excellent pickups for classic rock/hard rock and blues players. Since it's a copy of the pickups in Billy Gibbons' famous 1959 Les Paul, one can expect the PAF style of sound: great warmth, sounds good clean, sounds fantastic with distortion. The output is slighter higher than a vintage PAF, but this is still a low output pickup. This isn't a good choice for metal heads. Metal heads are better off with the Seymour Duncan JB series that Matthias Jabs endorses.
