Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

This pickup came loaded in the bridge of my LTD mh 401-fm (mahogany body) and I wasn't entirely sure how it would hold up to the progressive metal and rock I play given that it was designed for a hot blues sound but I after plugging in and running through some tones I was blown away! Having tried pickups from every major manufacturer I can honestly is by far the clearest, most articulate pickup I've used so far! It shines through high gain. I found on leads it gives a sharp attack that lets the highs really cut through without getting piercing or ice picky. On rhythms, it maintains just enough low end to give power chords a solid thump, but on more complex chord voicings it lets every note come through perfectly. It sounds great on cleans as well, but if you don't work your volume control you can find yourself with some light distortion.

Exactly What I Was Looking For

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I installed a set of the Pearly Gates pickups in a 2011 Gibson SG Standard Limited (baked maple fretboard and quick connect pickups). I eliminated the quick connect pickups and rewired the guitar with 500k volume and tone pots and orange drop caps. The original pickups were Gibson 490R (Neck) and 498T (Bridge) and had 300k volume pots. I play through both solid state and tube amps (Fender). To summarize in one word: WOW!!!! The guitar sounds more alive with notes that jump out when playing single notes. When clean, overdriven or heavily distorted, this setup performs. Chords are clean enough to hear each note, but dirty enough to make you think, oh yeah! It was a worthwhile installation indeed.

      Great Pickups

      By Michael

      from London, OH

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I have a modern tele special that I put the Pearly Gates in on the bridge along with a Seymour Duncan Standard Strat Stack in the middle and a Dimarzio True Velvet T in the neck. The Gates along with the other pickups added a new dimension to the guitar. I have the best of both worlds keeping the true tele sound and when I want to get rockin I flip down to the Gates and the Strat Stack. Now I have a real variety of sounds that I never got out of the stock pickups. Right now I have a mini toggle giving me the option to split the Pearl Gates but I plan on getting a mini toggle on/on/on switch so I can split/series/parallel the pickup.

bright for a semi hollow body but controllable

      By Timothy

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I had to wrap the tape with electrical tape cause I was getting fuzz sound and squelch. But now it's legit as hell. Love it. It's super bright but very controllable with a twist of the tone knob. Super awesome sound.

      It's pearly gates...what more can I say?

      By Jemile

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

I use this in the neck position, along with a whole lotta humbucker in the bridge. This combo is light years beyond the original pickups in the guitar (1960 LP reissue). I run it through either a Bogner or Marshall tube amp. All i can say is WOW!!!!! Worth the investment PERIOD!!!

      Perfect Balance

      By ED

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

This Pickup is outstanding and probably the best humbucking neck pickup I've ever heard. It is tonally balanced from the highs to the lows and the bass does not turn to a mud puddle when distorted and pushed hard. Every note is delightfully distinct yet amazingly hot when distorted.

      Perfect

      By David Schore

      from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

This is the second guitar that I've installed a pearly gates at the bridge and it's just awesome! This pickup delivers the crisp smooth tone that you would expect from any Seymour Duncan pickup. It has great sustain, and catches all the harmonics perfectly. This pick up is a great mod to any guitar, and it works great with a combination of other Seymour Duncan pickups.

      Excellent replacement pup

      By Michael Guadagno

      from Orlando, FL

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-PG1 Pearly Gates Pickup:

The Pearly Gates are excellent pickups for classic rock/hard rock and blues players. Since it's a copy of the pickups in Billy Gibbons' famous 1959 Les Paul, one can expect the PAF style of sound: great warmth, sounds good clean, sounds fantastic with distortion. The output is slighter higher than a vintage PAF, but this is still a low output pickup. This isn't a good choice for metal heads. Metal heads are better off with the Seymour Duncan JB series that Matthias Jabs endorses.
