I recently purchased the Ibanez V70CEBK and I absolutely love this guitar. I showed it to a friend who has been playing for ten years and he was envious. I just started to play and i tried two guitars before finding this treasure. The playability of this guitar is excellent for its price range as is the rest of the features (mahogany back and sides, rosewood fretboard and bridge). The black gloss finish just adds the look of dominance to the guitar.

If your looking for your first acoustic, this is good for the money. The action/playablitiy is tough but good for finger muscles. It is not a fast guitar. Suited best for some hard strumming basic chord songs. If you want to play the blues, pass on this one and spend the extra money on something faster.

If you're an experienced player, do not buy this.

By j r

from Bakersfield California

I was fairly good at playing the guitar when I bought this just shy of three years ago. But when I actually started getting into the structure of guitars, I noticed how much this guitar in particular is less than mediocre. The neck and the fret board feel extremely sticky, the action is high, making the cutaway pointless, and if you choose to get the black one, be prepared to see every single tiny scratch the guitar has gotten. If you're looking to have fun with a guitar and broaden your style of playing, this isn't the guitar you're looking for. But if you know you're just going to play chords(basic chords with a capo, not bar chords, because you'll have to adjust the tuning as some frets will die on you)then sure, this guitar is fine. Just make sure to play it for a good hour or so before you buy it.

Great Beginner Guitar.... for a year

By William Jones

from Kentucky

I've been playing for seven years and I got this guitar when I started playing. I always forget to write a review on my guitars so I am doing it now... However, the guitar is great starting off. Really solid, nothing wrong, good sound, great to begin with, etc. Then... after you have it for about 3-4 months the fret buzz kicks in, and other random problems. The guitar itself gets to the point where it basically falls apart and needs maintenance every month or so. Now I hardly even touch this guitar and am thinking about throwing it away or just displaying it because it always has something wrong with it.

Excellent guitar, beginner to pro

By Travis Morgan

from Taylor, Michigan

I love my little Ibanez here. I never owned an acoustic, having wanted to 'rock out' instead of learn to play well. I got a Fender MIM Strat in '94 and was never satisfied with it. I traded it in and picked up this little beauty, and trust me when I say I'm finally happy. The guitar has a beautiful finish, with the nice cream binding, the frets are nicely sized with little to no string buzz (which is probably just me getting used to it)and the equipment looks nice, if on the plain side. The sound is nice and warm, with good highs and mellow lows. The amp is cool, with controls for Bass, treble and Volume, though I've only used the output to tune. All in all I think this is a good value for the beginner or the pro on a budget. I make it sound nice with my 'new learner again' level of skill, I can only imagine what it would sound like in the hands of someone who actually 'knows' how to play. :)

perfect for small budgets

By larry brooks

from carnesville georgia

been playing this guitar for a month now and i have to say that i am definitely an ibanez fan. it fits me perfectly. i tried takamines and martins, but the necks were too skinny for my rather large hands. the neck on the ibanez is just right, and the tone of this instrument is great, after you change the strings that it is shipped with. i read another review before i purchased, and the guy recommended elixir brand strings, but i personally recommend martin strings.light gauge, not extra light, just light gauge.your guitar will sound awesome and i cant wait to go to helen georgia with this guitar and try it in a live setting, plugged into the PA system. for the price you cant go wrong,if you dont like it someone will give you back your investment, but i think you will be keeping it.that is all.

Awesome Guitar for the Price

By Pedro Ibarra

from Brownsville, TX

I have owned this Ibanez V70ce in blue for the last month. I have not used it much plugged in, but as far as the acoustics go, It's awesome. It stays perfectly in tune even after the hardest and fastest song I jam with. Very nice to play. Great guitar for the price.

Great for the price

By J Michael Gaeth

from florida

I was looking for a good acoustic with the cut-out so I could play some rock and blues "unplugged". After doing my research, I actually was going to go with a different guitar that GC had on sale, but my local store did not have it in stock. I was directed to check this one out as it was only $50 more than the guitar I had come in to check out. I was sold in about 5 mins. Very easy to play, deep and rich tones, and great sustain. The fact that I could pick this up and sound 100X better than the cheap Fender I have at home with the same style of play made up my mind for me. Can't go wrong with this if you are looking for a decent guitar at a low price.

Ibanez does it again

By Evan McCulloch

from Houston, TX

"Inexpensive" does not mean "cheap." Got a used refurbished V70CE for under $200. The piezo is punchy with plenty of gain. You can hear all the nuances of the strings. Zero buzzing. Stand alone unplugged the acoustics sound great and light enough to carry all day. Can't really play fancy high on the neck despite the cut away; however the action remains low for a dreadnought. This guitar is perfect for beginners, seasoned players, and medium venues. Not too heavy, not too bulky; well bounded. Again the fingerboard and overall components make it better than the Ovations and other imitations. Tuners stay in tune. This is a very good guitar for the price.

Sounds great after a few tweaks

By Jason Goike

from Memphis, TN

So I've had this guitar for almost a year now. It's a nice guitar. I like the looks of it and the size. I would say it gives a medium volume when strummed. The first couple weeks I had it I was getting fret buzz low on the fretboard. The first couple frets. I did a very small adjustment to the truss rod and it cleared it up without messing up the intonation. A few months later I got around to changing the strings. D'Adarrio 12's. Wow, a couple days after the strings settled in it was sounding phenomenal. I can't say anything about the electronics because it's rare that I play it through an amp. It stays in tune fairly well. If humidity changes in the house I'll need to retune it. It's build quality is good. I bang it on doorknobs on regular basis. I'm not a graceful person. Doesn't bother me too much because it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. The tuning machines are cheap and plastic and the faux silver finish over them has already started to bubble. I'm not losing a sleep over it. Overall I'm very happy with the guitar.

For This Price, Its Cheapest out there but not "Cheap".

By matt spencer

from Salt Lake

Personal Story With Guitar: I bought this to hold me over till I can buy the guitar I really want(Gibson SG Standard) and thought it was decent til Thanksgiving and Christmas when family came, and realized it was amazing. A Dozen people played it and all wanted one, they thought it was an expensive guitar(I thought they were crazy, but some were drunk). Of course half were use to dealing with 'cheap' or outdated guitars, but there were a few who knew the difference. Of these guys, they each owned multiple $2000+ type guitars, from old classic Martins to newer Fenders and Gibsons. Even some of them wanted to take it home to their collection's, and just found it charming. This guitar is a 5 star when talking Price/Performance, cause this was the absolute cheapest guitar I could find. Yet it plays like it were made of a thousand dollars, which is its charm(cheap and effective). I think I paid $150 with my coupon, every man needs this kind of guitar in their collection, even if you don't play(like with pianos, its for guests). With this acoustic, I have dropped it, bumped it on walls(seriously I have hit at least a dozen walls walking around with this playing it), and I have even spilled on it(this all doesn't include what others have done to it). This guitar is built like a tank, and you would never be able to be this loose with you nicer Taylors and Ibanez etc. My Observations of Guitar: I love the black, and its cream bindings. This neck has one of the smoothest necks and is easy to play, it just has this smooth paint on it which makes sliding very easy, not to mention it has a nice decent size, and would fit even a Jr. High sized hand! Surprisingly I tune this just every jam session, they stayed tuned just fine. The electronics are awesome, and are installed greatly, cause I dropped my favorite pick in the hole, and shook it to hell to get it out(I have done this several times). It has a good sound, but when recording, it doesn't match that of real 'great' guitars, that actually cost lots of money. I didn't get this setup and I did absolutely nothing to it and I have been playing it out of the box even just under 6 months later(I am even still using the same strings; they have given me amazing callus's). It was shipped to GC ready to jam. Conclusion: This guitar is just absolutely beautiful. It has matching cream and black all over it. The only thing on it that looks cheap are the saddle, nut and machine heads. The Nut/Saddle just don't match the binding color, and look like super cheap plastic. The machine heads are just extremely basic, some more stylish ones would match up better with the guitar. Overall, the guitar itself is just amazing(for the price), and perfect for small budgets. Every one from first timers to experience alike will all find something they like about it(mostly the price/performance), but will also find something they dislike. Outside the body, neck and head, there is much to not like, I think they put money in the places that truly count, which is a big deal cause you paid for the things you can't replace on it, fretboard being the only un-replaceable part that wasn't made to be of great quality(like body, neck and head). Pretty much, for under $200 your not gonna find anything better. Ibanez isn't my favorite brand, but they sure made this guitar sufficiently. Unless your coming from a way nice acoustic, your not going to notice anything bad about this guitar, and even if you got a collection of expensive guitars, there is always room for one like this. I didn't even notice anything 'bad' till I did this review. Bottom Line: It is absolutely perfect for camping, beach goers, beginners, and for guests/parties(so that people don't touch the nicer guitars, and they can spill their beers on it). As a person who has always owned electric solid body guitars, I found this at first to be a novelty buy to rid of my Gisbon SG 'itch', but soon found it my main guitar. I also take it to learn the folk and blues from lessons at the local learning center(just toss it in the backseat and your good to go). I say buy this, take it home, and then find a reason to why you need anything more expensive. I have been able to delay my 'big' purchase, and now going to be able to get something way nicer than what I would have settled for. I was gonna return this 60 days later and get me the nicer guitar, but I liked it too much, and decided I wanted an acoustic in my collection, I mean its only $150/$200, why return it?

Great deal & Awesome guitar!

By Matthew Kirby

from Lakeland

This guitar is great, nice warm and deep tones. Great action and I just love the sound it produces! I purchased the Transparent Blue color and the website pictures do it no justice, this guitar has a subtle but deep blue that meshes perfectly with the black. Gorgeous guitar. I would definitely recommend this guitar to beginners. Guitar Center did a great job with free fast shipping. Love my purchase!
