Over the years I've used all sorts of mufflng techniques on toms to control what I consider to be too much ring. For some time I have taken the scissors to my old heads to make my own o-rings. Don't need them with these heads. I put them on my 12, 13, and 16 tom set-up. Tuned up easy and quick. Mic eq and set-up was painless. These heads make it easy to get that "fat" tom sound. If you are not concerned about micing the kit then the single ply Studio-X heads may be more to your liking as they are a bit louder and just a bit ringier.

After spending this much on new heads you'd expect these heads to at least produce similar tones between toms ... they don't. I've NEVER been more mad about a drum equipment purchase! I bought these to replace my 4 year-old Evans Hydraulics and I'm going to put my Evans right back on. First, the 10" tom is made of a cloudy material and is muffled like crazy in comparison to my 12" and 14" heads, which are made of a clear mylar . Second, birch is a naturally low sounding, very dense wood and I can't even get low tones out these heads. They produce that "slap" sound you get from loose heads even when they're tuned higher. I'm royally aggravated. If I could return these I would. The only upside is that I got a Hi-Energy snare head when I bought these, which is awesome, but, I'm jumping on the Remo band wagon as soon as possible. At least they make the same style head out of the same material. These only get 2 stars because they look cool.

Just plain better

By Darth Tigger

from Greenville, Sc

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

These heads will make any drum sound good...even el cheapo brand x kits you can buy at a discount store! I used to use Remo Ambassadors across all my toms but these sound good night after night in heavy playing situations. They take a pounding and don't lose their tone as easy as a thinner head. I've also tried them in some lighter settings and was pretty impressed. My only gripe is that they don't make em smaller than 10 inches!

One of the BEST Drumheads Ever Made

By Just Jared

from Olmsted Falls, Ohio

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I've been disappointed with every tom head I've ever used until I discovered Aquarian. First I got Evans G2 coated to replace my stock heads. Despite how thick they were, they still needed insane amounts of muffling. A guitar center employee told me a little about the Aquarian Performance II heads, and I was back within a few days to pick them up. They're so thick that you get a great short sound out of them. They have the best attack and literally NO OVERTONES OR RING at all. Yet they still have wonderful tones and a wide tuning range. Very durable as well. I recommend these tom heads to anyone who is sick of endless ring and overtones. And the added bonus is they are some of the least expensive heads on the market. In a nut shell: Evans/Remo quality heads for a fraction of the price.

Try Something Different

By Kyle

from Annapolis, Md.

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I have been using the Evans hydraulic heads for 20+ years. To get a even deeper tone I would use "Dead-ringers" with the hydro's. These Aquarians are advertised as giving the same sound without the hydro and ringers. They were exactly right, these heads are incredible even before the "stretch-in"! They have the same deep punch I want but even cleaner! The stick response is incredible, without having to overtighten! Sometimes you like to stick with what works, but this time the gamble was well worth it!The little extra in price will pay off, give these heads a try, you won't be disappointed!I put them on my whole set!

My favorite drumheads

By Brian

from Massachusetts

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

In my opinion there are really no better heads than these. They are amazingly durable and sound great in all settings whether it be live, studio, or just practicing. If tuned correctly they will give you the tone that most drummers look for, a nice fat and deep but melodic sound. I mostly recommend them for heavier music like Metal or Hardcore but they are versatile enough that they can be used for lighter styles as well. My only bad thing to say about them is that they are a little pricey compared to other heads but like all instruments, you get what you pay for.

Awesome!!

By Brandon Gonzalez

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I play Metal and have been for over 15 years. I have a Pearl Export Series kit. I was using Black Evans Suede heads and with some tuning I was able to get a decent sound but even with moon gel I was getting too much ring. After tons of research I thought I would give these a try and they are absolutely what I was looking for. I tune as low as possible and these give a quick, low, solid punch with very little ringing. I currently have pearl reso heads on my rack toms with the black Evans on the floor but I am most likely going to switch out the rack tom resos with the black evans as well. It took all of about 15 minutes per head to replace and tune to the sound I have been looking for. Definitely worth giving them a shot. I dont know how they will tune to a higher pitch but I can say for sure that if you want a low punch with little to no ringing without using 3rd party dampeners these are what you have been missing.

Awesome for Rock

By Cayetano Garcia-Cachay

from Michigan

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I bought these to replace the stock heads on my kit, and came across thse, so picked them up, and i'm ver impressed. These heads are meant for loose tuning (so mostly for rock and metal), which is of course, exactly for what I use them for. They have awesome tone, and especially the muffling ring works really well, But i also use them for other genres as well, such as jazz, or swing (sometimes swing combined with metal). And work pretty good for those too, BUY THESE HEADS.

Do not underestimate Aquarian!!!

By Adam

from Iowa

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

First off, if you are playing rock or metal, buy these heads now!!! Don't even think about it, just do it!!! I'm able to throw these on, and tune all 4 of my toms in about 2 minutes, and they sound great!!! Lot's of low end and punch, and no after-ringning what-so-ever. They do make a noise after the initial hit, but it's nothing but great sounding resonance, not that annoying ring. i don't use any moongel on my toms because they don't need them. Can't say enough about these heads. Don't underestimate Aquarian, and buy these heads!!!

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

Popped one of these on my 16" floor tom and tuning it was a dream. Seems to hold its tuning well, too.

Wouldn't recommend it for smaller drums, though. Resonance is your friend.

      Some of the best heads

      By AluminumPancake

      from Lewisburg, Pennsylvania

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I replaced the stock heads with these on my Peavey 500 series along with Aquarian Classic Clears for resonant heads, and I get the best deep, fat sound I was looking for. These can make any set sound better. I recommend these to anyone looking for a defined, deep, fat sound in their toms.

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

i bought these heads without really knowing much about the aquarian brand. i just bought them to see what they sounded like. they are amazing sounding heads. since it already has the black sealed ends, it doesnt need any muffling whatsoever. it gives this deep tone and punch tone as well. so, i would most def recommend this product to anyone whos gonna buy

      Not that impressed

      By Ryan Riesner

      from Medford Oregon

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I bought these heads for my 10",12",and 14" maple shelled toms. Got them home, tuned them up and started playing. these heads are defanently deep sounding... but they defenantly dont sound as fat and rich as i was expecting, just deep and dull. i cant really hear them that well when rocken out. I think im eather going to try the aquarian single ply next or the remo pinstripe to try and get a more louder, richer, sound that is still deep and fat at the same time.

      Better as resonant heads

      By michael

      from san diego, california

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I tried these heads on my toms and had high hopes for a deep tone. I started playing them and they constantly came out of tune, but that might have been because they were brand new. Anyways, i kept playing them for about 2 weeks with my band and realized, everytime i went for a fill i could not hear my toms for the life of me. Even when i would practice by myself i could barely hear them even if i hit them hard. I then put my remo's back on and put these on as resonant heads creating an amazing sound.

      Brighter than I'd expected

      By Mike Lovas

      from Spokane, WA

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

The description of these heads implies that they're rich in tone. I suppose they are when compared to a non-coated, single-ply head. But, it was not the sound I expected. I wanted a warmer tone. So, I will replace these with the Aquarian single ply COATED heads. For the type of playing I do, those are the best heads, best sound I've ever found. I love the Aquarian heads, it's just a matter of finding the right ones. My suggestion: don't replace all your heads at one time. Buy one or two tom heads and test the sound. Mike

      Simply Awsome!!!

      By Rene

      from El centro Ca

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I got to say that these heads are the best heads I have ever purchased. I just tried them on my pdp x7 set and they completley blew me away, I usualy have a hard time tuning my drums and I've tried various brands from Remo to Evans and I have to say that they are simply the best. The best part is that you dont have any overtone whats so ever, no moon gels, no dampening rings, very easy tuning!!! They are defintely a must have item!!!

      By caleb barnett

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I have been a Remo fan for 12 years. Then my friend gave me an Evans onyx to tryout i was immediately changed by the sound it produced. My friend then told me if i liked Evans than i would love Aquarian! Sure enough i was i bought one 12" performance 2 clear, and another for my 14" floor tom. For the bottom I purchased Aquarian Super 2. I Tuned them using idrumtech on my phone and a pair of isolating head phones. they sound great! Im hooked for life.
