Over the years I've used all sorts of mufflng techniques on toms to control what I consider to be too much ring. For some time I have taken the scissors to my old heads to make my own o-rings. Don't need them with these heads. I put them on my 12, 13, and 16 tom set-up. Tuned up easy and quick. Mic eq and set-up was painless. These heads make it easy to get that "fat" tom sound. If you are not concerned about micing the kit then the single ply Studio-X heads may be more to your liking as they are a bit louder and just a bit ringier.

Absolutely the worst drumhead I have ever used. I bought these things on a gamble, since I have never heard any before so it is actually my fault. I have a little Mapex Voyager kit that I lug back and forth to Church so I save wear and tear on my more expensive kit that sits in my home studio. Anyway, I thought that the heads would provide some slight natural muffling and some added depth to the little kit, since it has small toms and it came with cheap factory single ply batters. Based on their description and other reviews this seemed a realistic expectation. What I got was the same effect as placing a bath towel over each head. Belive me I know how to tune drums and I don't like any type of muffling at all except for an Evans EQ pillow in the kick, so I was extremely disappointed by the results of these things. I should have known to put a set of Evans G2's (my usual head) on and tune them for the result I wanted, but I tried to take the lazy way out. However, Aquarian's quality of materials and construction is second to none. I just can't recommend this specific head. The Impact kick batters and the Double Thins are excellent. After I give these things "what fer" for a little while just to feel like I did not waste the money I will be putting a set of G2's on.

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

Popped one of these on my 16" floor tom and tuning it was a dream. Seems to hold its tuning well, too.

Wouldn't recommend it for smaller drums, though. Resonance is your friend.

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I have a mapex saturn V with soniclear edges. I wanted a drumhead that would give me that big 80's fat, deep rock tone without the need to constantly tweak muffling. These work PERFECTLY and I still get a medium sustain. Far superior quality to Remo. I get massive depth and power from my kit and not a "thud". Recommended for rock, metal and blues.

Used them once, never use anything else

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

I am currently using Performer 2 heads on my 26"x18" monster kit after using them on a bigger double bass kit...I have used them on all my drum kits prior to only using specific Remo and Evans brand.

I tried them once on a whim and fell in love with the tone I was getting. They are that good. The Performer 2 are a 2 ply oil injected head with muffle foam injected around the inner edge...They have a great balanced chug tone that work great with the variety of wood drums. (maple, mahogany).

I still tune my own drums and use a Drum dial tuner that measures tympanic pressure on every lug.
I tune my tops at 71 and the bottom at 75 tympanic pressure and it's blissful.

People that might prefer the bongy tone from a single ply drum head aren't going to like nor would they appreciate the sound these heads add to your drums. They are ideal for heavy Rock or Country tone (what I play).

In my opinion they are a better made drum head for toms and kick drum if you want to record and don't have a sound engineer to dial in each tom.

I have always used mics and the sound I get is the best no nonsense tone because there is no need to tweak an EQ to eliminate bongy tone, just add or cut a little volume and it's pretty solid.

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

These heads are great for cheap Luan Mahogany shelled drums, but a bad choice for Maple/Popular mixed shells or birch. As the drum will sound choked . Also one needs to follow the tuning instructions. using a single ply bottom head. and loose tuning only. If you have a old Japan set and your doing 70's cover tunes, Excellent fit. Very nice quality drum heads, Infact, all their heads are top notch. with -out the plastic feel.

Comments about Aquarian Performance II Drumhead:

This Aquarian head is my absolute favorite. You can tune it really low without losing any clarity and that works very well for me as I like the contrast between my high and tight snare sound and my toms. It was a great buy with a great price and fast delivery. I would highly recommended this product!
