Overview

Developed in conjunction with leading drum stylist Akira Jimbo, the Zildjian K Kustom Hybrid Hi-Hat Pair features an innovative brilliant/traditional surface that produces different tones depending on where the cymbal is played for a musical "darkness with brilliance" combination. The inner half features the unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride, while the outer half features the traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing. The unlathed section helps control the wash and sustain, making it ideal for recording and live situations.

The innovative "Hybrid Hammering" on the hi-hat results in reverse Mastersound grooves by hammering into the bottom of the cymbal from the opposite side. This results in increased surface area contact between the top and bottom cymbals, and a warmer chick and wash than normal Mastersound hammering. Akira specified the 13-1/4" size to combine the power of a 14" size and the control of a 13".

"Maximum versatility is the main idea with the Hybrid series. I worked with Zildjian to design a line of cymbals where brilliance and darkness coexist. I think the sound we came up with sets the new standard for the 21st Century."--Akira Jimbo

I tried these out in the store and after the first hit I loved them. Very crisp sound, both closed, and slightly open. My only problem with them is that after a year and a half of regular play (2 hours of band practice twice a week, I'm in two bands, with gigs about 2 times a month) the top cymbal had two fractures in it and had to be replaced. I probably won't replace it, but buy a new set of something else. I gave it 3 stars because I love them, but they should have lasted longer.

13.25 k custom hybrids

By Roman Horvath

from Youngstown, Oh

If you are a fan of smaller hi-hats, these are awesome! They have a beautiful sound with no odd-toned overtones (as on many 13" hi-hats I've tried), and can be played with just about anything but very heavy rock; due to the medium-thin top cymbal. Nice defined chick sound and good definition. I ended up using these as my main hi-hats and paired them with the 14" A mastersounds as my auxillary hi-hats and they work perfect together! They also sound great with the 21" k custom hybrid ride. If you play heavier rock, check out the 13" Paiste signature soundedge; they are a bit heavier and are very cutting, but do not have the overall "warm-tone" like these hybrids!

Bright, but not tight

By ADAM TEWS

from Seattle, WA

These hats have a nice, bright sound to them. When compared to the Sabian AAX hats I was playing previously, they sound brilliant; however, over time, I found that the closed stick sound was loose (had to almost stand on the pedal to get the "tic" sound), and the chick wasn't very tight. These hats would be brilliant in any application where they're primarily played slightly open, where a bright, cutting sound is desired.

Pricey, but you get what you pay for...

By Ryan

from TX

I purchased the 13 1/4" hats, and am very impressed with the quality of sounds I have gotten with them so far. They have a clean "chick" sound, and when played closed, they have super stick definition...really tight and clear. When opened up a bit, they still have lots of clarity and don't sound muddy at all. Laying into them makes them come alive, and they've got plenty of volume for most situations, yet they're not overpowering at any volume level. Overall, a great set of hi hats, minus the steep price!

BUY THESE!!!

By Jeremy

from St. Louis, MO

I swear these are as good as hi-hats get. I bought the 13.25" hats today and they are truly AMAZING. They have a thick chick sound. When they are open they sound so clear and clean. You could have them just barely opened or opened as far as they can go, but it doesn't matter because it sounds good no matter how they are played. Zildjian did an awsome job crafting these cymbals. I swear you will never regret buying them.

Zildjian has done it again

By Natey Q

from North Collins, New York

I purchased the 13 1/4" hats and absolutly love them. The Sitck defination was the biggest seller to me besides the size (I love a smaller size hat). Odly enough, the custom K's fit into any style of music, blues, country, rock whatever you want to do these hats will produce. The top cymbal is a little on the thin side so if that worries you, try out the A mastersounds, but as long as your not hitting your hats with hammer-like force, no worries. A little pricey but worth it!

Everything you need.

By Jacob Wilson

from Rancho Santa Margarita

Amazing hi hats. I've used them for about 2 years, playing alternative, metal, rock, worship, anything. Carter Beauford used to use these all the time. very versatile, amazing sound. playing with these hats, I've become a much more meticulous, and dynamically diverse drummer. Great, warm chick. Amazing. Worth every penny.

Hybrids are killers!

By dpdrum

from Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas

I just bought the 14.25" Hybrid hats, and they are sweet!!! Nice, crisp sound with plenty of attack! I've used Avedis Quick Beat, A Custom, K Custom Dark, and K hats... these are by far my favorite! I'll probably get the 13.25" hats for the more gospel oriented stuff I play! Definitely the most versatile pair of hats I've ever owned!
