Nice Tones

By Steve Hargett

from Greenville, SC

I recently purchased the 16" K Custom Dark Crash by mail. It has a nice full crash sound with fast response. I would call it a high pitched crash with nice low undertones. On mine, the edge is rough...more than my other cymbals. I'm not sure if this edge type is by design, but I hit on the edges a lot and I imagine it will eat up my sticks a little quicker. Since the bell is small, there is not much contrast when striking the bell compared to the center area. The small bell is not a problem for me ...just something to consider if you're buying a new cymbal. I am very happy with the sound and would buy this cymbal again.

Best Cymbal I've Played

By Jacob K

from Menomonee Falls Wisconsin

I've been drumming for years and have played dozens on different sets and close to every dark crash on the market. I bought the 18 inch version, but if you weren't looking at it, you'd think I was playing something much bigger, like a 20 inch Paiste alpha metal cymbal. I play in different bands with different genres and it sounds perfect for any kind of music. I disagree with a previous review saying not for hard hitters. I play in a five finger death punch/slipknot cover band and play very hard. I also had a 2 year warranty purchased for the cymbal back when I got it because I have cracked or broken cymbals in the past and after over a year, nothing more than hit marks on the sides of the cymbal and a few line-marks going up the cymbal, but as i play it more and more, the sound becomes more full and distinct. It's also very versatile, I've rode on it, crashed, and not mention it has a very 'mystical' sounding bell you don't get on any other cymbal. On my stage set i use it with zildjian ZHT 15 and 17 cymbals which have a much brighter sound and the variation is great. The price is pretty high, but if you need a reliable, dark, full sounding cymbal, this is top of the line and works perfectly as a main crash in any type of drum kit

Beautiful Crash Cymbals Improve With Age

By Jeff

from Grand Rapids, MI

I play to gospel and jazz on a regular basis. These K Custom Dark cymbals fit into the music well and provide a full, beautiful crash sound, with a bit of trashy edge. What I've discovered however is that these cymbals mellow a bit with age in a good way. The 17 is just flat out beautiful right from store, with a dark, mellow, smooth crash. The 16 inch crash has a more trashy sound initially, but after I'd been playing mine for about ten months, I suddenly realized one day that it had become more smooth, dark and mellow sounding - more like the quality of the 17. Now the two blend perfectly. I've continued to expand my setup to include the 15 inch - which is brighter and more trashy - and I plan to get the 18 inch, 14 inch, hats and splashes as soon as I can afford them. The ride is dark, with a fair amount of wash, and has an especially great crash sound as well, which is why I originally bought it. These cymbals go together well as a set and work great for medium volume settings. If you play to a lot of music with a jazz vibe, check out these cymbals - especially the 17, the 16 and the ride. You won't be disappointed! They really do sound increasingly beautiful with age!

Great Crash

By LaRon Atkins

Quick decay, fast response, good for any application. Just wish they were a little cheaper, but I guess you have to pay for quality.

Excellent cymbal

By Robert Pina

from Los Angeles, CA

Having not bought a cymbal in over 15 years (!) I decided to check out the reviews, to narrow down my search. Reviews on this cymbal were very consistent, went down to my local (Westwood,CA) GC and found one. My man Adam put it on a set for me, and MAN!!!This cymbal is the bomb. You won't be disappointed. Great stick response, minmal overtones, big splash with a quick fade - that's the way I like it, perfect for my purposes anyway. Worth the bucks man, well worth the bucks. Zildjian, yes.

Great Cymbal

By James Kirkland

from Bristol, PA

I have the 18" crash and absolutely love it. It is a very dynamic cymbal and is responsive. When you play it softly it has a nice dark swelling crash and it really opens up nicely with a brighter sound when you hit it harder. It sounds really great when played with mallets. It also has a really nice ride sound and bell.

The Deepest Crash I've Played

By Andrew

from Plato, MN

I purchased the 17" Custom Dark Crash and it is the deepest crash cymbal I've played. Incredible tone! The cymbal rises beautifully and falls quickly. The diversity of the cymbal is amazing, as it sounds good for jazz, straight rock, and even a big band feel.

Great for a jazz gig

By Azreal

from CT

I play a lot of different types of music and this cymbal really sonds great during my jazz gigs. My cymbal set up for gigs is an 18 in. K Custom Dark Crash, a Zildjin Armend Ride, and A Mastersound Hi-Hats. This cymbal has an amazing low and slightly washy sound when you use it as a crash. It's also great as an alternate ride when you need to ride quietly.
