I bought this guitar as my first guitar with the help of one of my friends fathers (he was a in a german rock-band, a fairly big one) he got me this guitar and a 65 watt crate amp for under 400, giving it really good value, (guitar was about 150$) I play every-day generally for about an hour and a half and it hasn't broken on me once, the tone and sound are good, all the songs I play are recognizable, now this has great sound and quality for a guitar of its price, it can't match up to the tone of a les paul, but it is still very good, I would reccomend this guitar to all beginners and intermediates (though maybe as a back-up if your almost a really-good guitarist) the only two bad points I can give to this guitar are that it un-tunes fairly easily, and the low E-string hits the fret-board a lot if you try to play to loudly (but you can just turn the volume up)

I tried this guitar at the store and noticed that everything was good compared to other guitars in this price range. But the sound was not as good as guitars like the Squier Affinity Strat which has a much brighter and cleaner sound. If you are not looking for a really bright and clean sound, then stick to this guitar because it is the next best thing in this price range.

Versatility at an affordable price!

By Praneet Chitre

from Pune, Maharashtra, INDIA

I've used a Yamaha Pacifica for 5 years and its just simply amazing. Its my first guitar and I have stuck with it for a long time just because of one thing-its tone. Being a legato-style metal player,I have played on better guitars like an Ibanez rg350 and Squier strats(which have higher response pick-ups)...but the pacifica has an outstanding tone that those guitars just can't match. The humbucker at the bridge pumps out a raw, vintage sound and it sounds great through almost any distortion box or amp. The neck is reasonably fast and its a very comfortable guitar to play(much more than an Ibanez rg). The only drawback is that the pickups do produce a low buzz when you're playing through heavy distortion and compression....otherwise,it's capable of handling metal pretty well. You can play almost anything on this guitar and still come out feeling satisfied,if not impressed. A fine instrument from the Yamaha factory.

Can't beat it for a beginning guitar

By William Gilliland

from Dallas, TX

I decided to learn how to play the guitar 4 years ago at age 40. I was convinced by the GC staff that this was the best guitar for the price. I was a little reluctant to purchase the Yamaha Pacifica since it didn't come with a start pack. Work got busy and I shelved it until two weeks ago. I took it out, tuned it and am taking professional lessons now at age 44. THANK YOU GC staff for talking me into this guitar! The guitar stays in tune MUCH better than my daughter's Pee-Vee. The sound through a Marshall half-stack is pretty pleasant. Frets are consistent. Only minor gripes are tuners are "good" but not "great" and go easy on the whammy. I bend the whammy just a touch every now and then and the guitar stays in tune. Heavy whammy will knock it out of tune.

The best guitar for the money

By Tony Montana

from Vancouver BC

You can't find a better quality guitar at this price. This is my workhorse guitar for live and some studio work. I have much more expensive guitars to play with, but I keep coming back to this one because if it's versatility and classic strat/rock guitar tone. From classic Van Halen tones to Blues, this guitar does it well. The rest is up to you.

Rockin Preacher

By Patrick

Bought this guitar a couple months back. Great value but has a little trouble staying in tune. Make sure the intonation is correct and consider replacing factory tuners with quality locking tuners. Great for beginners and intermediate players.

Great guitar

By Brian O'Dell

from Aurora, CO

The guitar is exactly what I was looking for. Note, I was judging the different guitars based on look and price. Everything I read about it was posetive. As far as performance, I'm happy with it but I'm a beginner and don't know much. My new instructor is going to look it over on Wednesday. I bought online and chose to have the guitar shipped to the store. The guys at the local Guitar Center store are not what I excepted. They treated me like a bother even thou I was buying stuff. I won't go back.

Yamaha

This guitar was my first electric as a beginner and overall it was pretty good. I only recommend it to beginners otherwise try a squire (i think thats how you spell it)It is a good looking guitar the pickups are all right......basically the best thing about it is the whammi bar. If you are a decent to better guitar player i would highly reccomend to not get this!!!!!

I love this guitar

By Babbalou

from Lewisville, Texas

I like the option of playing crunchy stuff on the humbucker, then switching to the single coils & playing lead on the same guitar. Nice, fast neck. I can get the action pretty low & only get a little buzzing playing the open A & low E strings because the 9-42 strings are just a tad floppy. 10-46 strings are probably perfect for this guitar & that's what's going on next. It looks nice & sounds good. Nothing broke so far & it looks like it should give me years of fun. I put GHS Graphital lube in the nut grooves & it stays in tune even using the tremelo. If you use the tremelo at all, lube those grooves. The tremelo's a gas, I play oldie/"Pulp Fiction" stuff sometimes w/reverb. The tuners are ok, they stay in tune well, considering the price but a little twist is a lot of change so turn slowly. Overall, this is a lot of bang for the buck. Of my 3 electrics, this one gets played the most.

Superb Quality Beginner Guitar!!!!!

By Rick Narcisso

from Belmont, CA

I purchased the this Yamaha Pacifica from Guitar Center about three weeks ago. At the age of 49, I'm just starting out trying to learn the guitar. In less than two months, I went through two cheap-o acoustics (REAL CHEAP-OS) and a borrowed electric & thought I wasn't capable of learning this at such an advanced age...! Wrong!!! This guitar feels good, easy neck, nice tone and most importantly, STAYS IN TUNE -- A big problem I was having with my other starter guitars. For those of you who INCORRECTLY think there are issues with the Pacifica staying in tune: Leave the whammy bar alone until you know what you are doing! This is a beautiful guitar at a super price. If you're not a beginner, buy the American-made Fender for $3,000 Grand. Otherwise, start here - You will not be disappointed, you can't go wrong!!!!!

More than expected

By George

from Indiana

I took up guitar after retiring to keep my hands excercizing. I bought this because of the price. The fit & finish are great the neck is comfotable. Great for bends & slides. It is really easy to play. The vintage sunburst is sweet. The sound rivals my Ovation AE. For normal practice I still use the"O" but when I go to try something faster or funky this one works. I am very pleased with my purchase.
