I bought this guitar as my first guitar with the help of one of my friends fathers (he was a in a german rock-band, a fairly big one) he got me this guitar and a 65 watt crate amp for under 400, giving it really good value, (guitar was about 150$) I play every-day generally for about an hour and a half and it hasn't broken on me once, the tone and sound are good, all the songs I play are recognizable, now this has great sound and quality for a guitar of its price, it can't match up to the tone of a les paul, but it is still very good, I would reccomend this guitar to all beginners and intermediates (though maybe as a back-up if your almost a really-good guitarist) the only two bad points I can give to this guitar are that it un-tunes fairly easily, and the low E-string hits the fret-board a lot if you try to play to loudly (but you can just turn the volume up)

I tried this guitar at the store and noticed that everything was good compared to other guitars in this price range. But the sound was not as good as guitars like the Squier Affinity Strat which has a much brighter and cleaner sound. If you are not looking for a really bright and clean sound, then stick to this guitar because it is the next best thing in this price range.

Great Buy

By Yamham

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

This is a fantastic guitar. Now, being a beginner, I think a lot of things are great. However, as soon as I pulled this bad boy down, I knew it was the one. There is no other option. My favorite feature is most certainly the WHAMMY BAR. This guitar can do anything you want. I play everything from Avenged Sevenfold and AC/DC to Jimmy Buffet and Pink Floyd. I use a Line6 15-watt Spider, so that surely helps me get most sounds. Another feature that I prefer is the Maple neck. With a neck that has been polished or lackered, your hands may get sweaty or something, slowing down hand motion. However, with the featured maple neck, this won't happen. I would reccomend this without a doubt, and would buy it again if it was lost or something. This is an overall great buy.

I love this guitar

By Babbalou

from Lewisville, Texas

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I like the option of playing crunchy stuff on the humbucker, then switching to the single coils & playing lead on the same guitar. Nice, fast neck. I can get the action pretty low & only get a little buzzing playing the open A & low E strings because the 9-42 strings are just a tad floppy. 10-46 strings are probably perfect for this guitar & that's what's going on next. It looks nice & sounds good. Nothing broke so far & it looks like it should give me years of fun. I put GHS Graphital lube in the nut grooves & it stays in tune even using the tremelo. If you use the tremelo at all, lube those grooves. The tremelo's a gas, I play oldie/"Pulp Fiction" stuff sometimes w/reverb. The tuners are ok, they stay in tune well, considering the price but a little twist is a lot of change so turn slowly. Overall, this is a lot of bang for the buck. Of my 3 electrics, this one gets played the most.

Superb Quality Beginner Guitar!!!!!

By Rick Narcisso

from Belmont, CA

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I purchased the this Yamaha Pacifica from Guitar Center about three weeks ago. At the age of 49, I'm just starting out trying to learn the guitar. In less than two months, I went through two cheap-o acoustics (REAL CHEAP-OS) and a borrowed electric & thought I wasn't capable of learning this at such an advanced age...! Wrong!!! This guitar feels good, easy neck, nice tone and most importantly, STAYS IN TUNE -- A big problem I was having with my other starter guitars. For those of you who INCORRECTLY think there are issues with the Pacifica staying in tune: Leave the whammy bar alone until you know what you are doing! This is a beautiful guitar at a super price. If you're not a beginner, buy the American-made Fender for $3,000 Grand. Otherwise, start here - You will not be disappointed, you can't go wrong!!!!!

Not a good guitar at all

By thewho52193

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

my friend owns this guitar and has had it for several months. It is not good quality at all. The tuning never stays right, the tone is very choppy and doesnt sound nice at all. If you are a beginner looking to buy a guitar, definately go with the Squier Strat. It's a much better instrument than one thats comming from a company who makes motorcycles and TV's.

Good Start

By AaronBowley

from Seattle, WA

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I love the Yamaha Pacifica. Nothing in it's price range can compare. It sounds very good (not $1000+ good, but come on...) and plays like a dream. However, it's important to be aware of some issues. I'm currently on my third pacifica and the first two shared the same issues. A buggy switch that would have to be cleaned and that eventually let out no sound, the input jacks had problems, and on one of them the volume knob had issues. Make sure you get the extended warranty so that in case you get on with these issues you can get another. Still, it's a fantastic guitar and there's a reason I'm willing to put up with these issues.

good starter

By FenderFreak350

from Tucson, Az

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

i'm a young musician who has been playing all kinds of instruments sinse i was like 5...and my first guitar was an older model of a pacifica. It was completely different than this guitar quality wise, when i stumbled across this guitar at guitarcenter i thought it was amazing. Than my friend bought it and after a while it wasn't to good. The pickups die really fast, the tuning sucks, and it's not really put together well. But, if you are looking for a good starter that isn't a squire, go for this one! But, when it wears out, run for the FENDER STRAT! Best guitar EVER! but every guitar player knows that!

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

In the 20+ years that I've been playing electric guitar (over 10 years on stage with different bands) I've owned some great instruments from Fender MIM Strats to American series to a Gibson Custom V and I could go on and on naming the various boutique instruments I've owned over the years. After falling on some difficulties in life and finally picking myself back up I was looking for a low cost but high quality electric guitar that could do everything I needed it to do and the Yamaha Pacifica 012DLX is exactly that. For the price, I really don't think anything else can beat the Yamaha Pacifica. After playing so many and owning so many strats through the years, this Pacifica has me scratching my head at why I ever spent all the money I did when I could have just picked one of these up. The neck is smooth, fast, and fat the way I like. It's kind of in between a Gibson neck feel and a Fender neck feel. With the flattened fretboard radius, fingerpicking is as much a breeze as anything else on this Pacifica sitting next to me. There's something about the way that neck is made and the way Yamaha cuts the contours for the body that make this a simply more comfortable guitar to hang onto and to play on. You know a great guitar by how it plays unplugged, and the Yamaha Pacifica delivers even on that front which fully surprised me at this price. Plugging this thing in made all my dreams come true. The single coils have THAT sound if you know what I mean, and the humbucker on this thing is far above and beyond what I would expect in this range. Clean, reverb, overdrive and dirty, no effects, flanger, everything sounds great with this guitar. It's a versatile workhorse and I can't wait to take mine on stage just to show folks you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on gear. People say this is the best beginner guitar and it is certainly that, but pros need to take a second look at the Yamaha Pacifica.

    Good Beginner

    By YPacDeluxe

    from Evergreen Park, IL

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

This is my first electric guitar. It is well made for the most part, however the switch does not always work well on mine. It sometimes does not allow sound to come out of the amp. If you move it a little bit it works fine. Not a big problem at all. Everything else has worked fine. I still have the same strings after a year. So, overall it is a good guitar for a lower price than the Fender strats.

    Great guitar

    By Brian O'Dell

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

The guitar is exactly what I was looking for. Note, I was judging the different guitars based on look and price. Everything I read about it was posetive. As far as performance, I'm happy with it but I'm a beginner and don't know much. My new instructor is going to look it over on Wednesday. I bought online and chose to have the guitar shipped to the store. The guys at the local Guitar Center store are not what I excepted. They treated me like a bother even thou I was buying stuff. I won't go back.

Bought this guitar a couple months back. Great value but has a little trouble staying in tune. Make sure the intonation is correct and consider replacing factory tuners with quality locking tuners. Great for beginners and intermediate players.

    Versatility at an affordable price!

    By Praneet Chitre

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I've used a Yamaha Pacifica for 5 years and its just simply amazing. Its my first guitar and I have stuck with it for a long time just because of one thing-its tone. Being a legato-style metal player,I have played on better guitars like an Ibanez rg350 and Squier strats(which have higher response pick-ups)...but the pacifica has an outstanding tone that those guitars just can't match. The humbucker at the bridge pumps out a raw, vintage sound and it sounds great through almost any distortion box or amp. The neck is reasonably fast and its a very comfortable guitar to play(much more than an Ibanez rg). The only drawback is that the pickups do produce a low buzz when you're playing through heavy distortion and compression....otherwise,it's capable of handling metal pretty well. You can play almost anything on this guitar and still come out feeling satisfied,if not impressed. A fine instrument from the Yamaha factory.

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for about 15 years. Mostly blues and rock. I play with a group every other week. My guitar was purchased used. One pot is a splitter and allows the humbucker to be played as a single ciol. The switch in the 2nd and 4th position use the 1st and 2nd, then the 2nd add 3rd. They are reveresed wired so the humbuck each other. The neck radius is very flat (13.5 inch) which allow for deep bending without fretting out, which is what I like.I made the action very low. Again no buzzing. I don't see it as a detrament to chord playing. Play with single coils, you've got a stratochaser. Throw in the humbucker and you've got a Les Paul. Very versitile. Feels as heavy as a mohogony body.

    By rachitron

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

This was my second guitar I've bought..right after my yamaha c40 classical. I recommend this for all beginners until the moment you are completely comfortable with the basics of the guitar. I played this through a marshall half stack at our studio in japan (while i lived there) and it sounded good (not les paul good, though). The guitar is extremely light and durable. The whammy bar is a nice addition, although it untunes the guitar after a few pulls. the neck is slick and very easy to manuever. No other beginner's guitar can top the pacifica's characteristics!

    Still One Of My Favorites

    By MusicMaker

    from Irving, Texas

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

I purchased a Pacifica in 1994 and have recently purchased an American Strat deluxe. The Pacifica is a comfortable, easy to play guitar that compares favorably with the Strat, especially considering the cost. The only problem I have experienced with the Pacifica is that the input nut came loose causing some static noise. I simply tightened it and have never had anymore problems. If your experiencing tuning problems I would recommend (as with any guitar) having it set up and strobed by a professional. If this is your first guitar I would definitely recommend it.

    Great guitar for a beginner

    By Pradeep

    from Wisconsin

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

This is an awesome guitar for a beginner. I love the sound and the feel of the guitar is great. The color scheme makes the guitar look a lot more expensive than it really is. I do suggest you change the strings when you get it though, they are ok but the sound is a lot better if you change them to something like an Ernie Ball Regular. Also make sure you get a good tuner, this guitar tends to get un-tuned fairly quickly(quicker than most other guitars). The nut on the output is pretty loose, but you can change it so no problems there. This is defiantly the best guitar you can get in this price range(The Squier Fat Strat is ok, but this guitar is defiantly better quality than the squier.) The only reason i gave it 4 stars is because of the fact that it untunes fairly quickly and the nut being loose. Both are fixable problems though.

    By Harunobu

    from Brooklyn

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

let's face it- this is not a high-end, jaw dropping sound. That being said, for $150, this is a great buy. Aesthetically, it looks pretty sweet with the burst paint job, and when it comes to sound, its a great deal more than what you'd expect from such an inexpensive guitar. When I bought this guitar, I was pretty unimpressed at first and was just about to give up on it altogether and buy a new one, but while I was restringing one of my acoustics, I thought to replace the strings on my Pacifica as well. Well, I put on a set of Ernie Balls on it (set me back seven bucks at the local guitar store), and the sound improved so much that I'm heavily reconsidering shelling out the money on a new guitar. Bottom line: GREAT entry level guitar as it is, and with a few upgrades, will stay in your guitar collection for years.

Comments about Yamaha PAC012DLX Pacifica Series HSS Deluxe Electric Guitar:

You can't find a better quality guitar at this price. This is my workhorse guitar for live and some studio work. I have much more expensive guitars to play with, but I keep coming back to this one because if it's versatility and classic strat/rock guitar tone. From classic Van Halen tones to Blues, this guitar does it well. The rest is up to you.
