  • Wonderful Guitar

As reviewed by Teri on 1/22/2010

I'm very pleased with the quality of the Yamaha JR-1 acoustic folk guitar. I bought it for my 8-year old son. It comes with its own well-made case. The only criticism I have is that I wish the case had pockets included, to hold picks and such. The guitar was well-packaged and shipped quickly. The guitar has a good tone and stays in tune. I'm very satisfied. Thanks!

  • Good Value in a Travel-size Guitar

As reviewed by SRB on 11/15/2007

I was looking for an inexpensive travel-size guitar. I tried a number of acoustics of this size in the store, including Squire, Ibanez, and a baby Taylor. The Yamaha sounded and played almost as good as the Taylor for less than half the price. The scale is shorter than normal, and the action is fairly low, which would help with kids who are just starting out. The neck might be a bit chunky for smaller hands, however. The tuners are cheap but adequate. I put Martin "Silk & Steel) strings on it, and it doesn't sound bad at all, especially if I tune it up a full step. Overall, a very good value for the money, and a fun little guitar to fool around with. I'd certainly recommend it for a first guitar.

  • Perfect for young beginner guitarist

As reviewed by Dennis Snyder on 6/12/2010

This guitar follows the same solid build of guitar that Yamaha makes. My child was given a first act which became the last act after purchasing a new Yamaha JR1. It stays in tune far superior than the guitars you can obtain from your large box stores or the Esteban guitars you see in the infomercials. My friend was impressed when he picked up my Yamaha JR1 and it played considerably better than his Esteban off of TV. I would recommend this to any beginning young guitarist who needs a guitar that is smaller than full size.
