Overview

The VHT Melo-Verb is a pedal recreation of the fabled tremolo and reverb effects that were first introduced as built-in amplifier features in the ˜60s. The two effects sections are completely independent, with separate true-bypass switching.

Tremolo
The all-analog Tremolo section features classic Speed and Intensity controls, and for additional flexibility, it also has modern Shape and Level controls. The Shape control adjusts the tremolo character - everything from retro floating undulations to modern square-cornered chop. When the Tremolo is engaged, the Level control can be set for added boost to help the effect stand-out more in the mix. With the Depth control turned down, the Tremolo section can also serve as a clean boost pedal, with up to 9dB of boost from the Level control - it's like getting a clean boost pedal for free.

Reverb
The Reverb section replicates the classic built-in tube-driven spring reverb tone, and takes it one step further with the addition of Tone and Mix controls, which were found on the most coveted outboard ˜60s reverb units. The reverb tones range from soft, warm and round to bright splashy "tile wall spatter."

Soulful Synergy
Separately, these two effects provide a wide range of classic and modern tones - together they're an unbeatable value.

Comments about VHT Melo-Verb Guitar Effects Pedal:

After much experimentation, I have found that this is the perfect pedal to use through an effects loop, as there is less noise. I have used this through a Fender Supersonic 22 & 60, and also through the Fender George Benson Hot Rod Deluxe III and it works great, adding tremolo to the amp, and the ability to set a different type of reverb for specific songs. It would be nice to have a Tremelo & Delay combination.

Comments about VHT Melo-Verb Guitar Effects Pedal:

In the pedal-board real estate-saving quest for another two-in-one Reverb/Tremolo pedal, especially a more affordable alternative to the venerable Strymon Flint, which I also own, I happened upon this VHT Melo-Verb. They also make a Reverb/Delay in a similar package. For roughly a third of the cost of a Flint, you get a pretty great spring Reverb sound that I personally quite like. Granted one has to crank the knobs pretty high to get a lively effect, as others have lamented, but for my simple needs, I might even like it better than the Flint's 60s spring sound, which seems to have some fluttery-ness to it, the Meloverb is smoother. On the other hand, I found the tremolo in this Meloverb rather disappointing. Not exactly unusable for an old-school trem sound, but noisy and hissy as others have noted. I also had to remove the level knob from the trem side because I kept bumping it. I've encountered some situations where the reverb pops when you kick it in and out. Despite all of this, I've kept the pedal and use it on various variety gigs. For reverb fanatics and guys that want clean choppy tremolo, this probably isn't going to ring your bells. I like older, amp-like classic sounds and this isn't terrible. I did have to switch to the Flint for one gig where the tremolo noise was just too much of a hassle for the quietness of the show I was playing, but in a bar gig situation it wouldn't be that offensive. Try at your own risk, for $100 or less used, you might just have a decent space saving unit.
