Very impressive quality on the mic. I own this whereas many others prefer the SM58. They are just plain wrong. This one is a little more expensive and with good reasoning. This isn't your average microphone...it's a little smarter. Works beautifully in comparison to any other mic I've used. Completely, utterly perfect for the price. The tone quality is astounding considering it's under 200 bucks. Great buy...recommended for every singer!

Great Mic for the Working Musician

By G&L87

from Mundelein, IL

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

The Shure Beta 58A Mic is a great purchase for every vocalist, especially those who are seeking crystal clarity from their mic. It can take a beating and keep working. I am a rock vocalist, and no matter whether you sing, growl, or scream into the mic, the Beta 58A adds a great warmth to your voice. Another great feature is its absolute lack of feedback or pickup of ambient noise, making it ideal for energetic live shows. Highly Recommended.

Shure Beta 58A live vocal Mic

By Kidd

from Knoxville, TN

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

You want a mic that can handle whatever you throw at it? You've found it. I've used one Beta 58A for the last 3 or 4 years as well as the SM58 and the competitively priced Sennheiser 835 and 935 models in a wide range of vocal applications. Our musical style ranges from mid tempo acoustic pieces to modern rock and I've yet to find another mic that makes the transition so well. The Beta's clarity and feeback rejection is impressive, but above all is it's defined bass perfomance whether you're singing close to or further away from the mic. Which can make all the difference in an amazing performance and that "washed-out", "choked" live vocal sound. While it hasn't yet been a problem, my only pause for thought when rating the value of the Beta is the fact that the Shure manufacturer's warranty is considerably shorter than the Sennheiser products.

By soundman

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

If you have the money, get the Shure Beta58A! If you don't have the money, save up....This will be the most amazing mic you will have ever used! It's clarity in vocal reproduction is unmatched. I would pay twice as much for one of these. I currently have 5 that I used on a regular basis.

The Shure bet is the Beta 58A!!

By Hollen-B

from Orange County, CA

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I currently had a really old mic and it was time for an upgrade, due to the fact I was running a live online radio show and the mic I had just wasn't cutting it. As soon as I plugged the 58A in I could tell the difference. The sound was great, clear and precise, and I didn't even get any feedback when held near speakers. The price was honestly not bad for the quality and I like the factory warranty it came with. I am very impressed and can't wait to use it on my upcoming show.

Awesome Mic!

By the answer

from San Jose, CA

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

The Shure beta58a has to be one of the best microphones on the market. It's response is sharp and it picks up speech very well. Feedback is not something of worry with this mic, either. It's very durable, I've dropped my a couple times, and have not even noticed a difference in quality.

AWESOME!!!

By Allan Von

from Dallas Tx.

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

Worth every penny. I take mine to every show I play. The worst sound man in the world couldn't make this mic sound bad. It cuts through any and every mix with warmth and clarity. The first show I used it, people in the crowd said they could hear me chewing my gum between verses. A horrible habit for a singer, but still a great compliment for the mic. If this mic were a car... They'd call it Ferrari.

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I've used many different vocal mics in the past, but then I heard about the Beta 58A's so I thought I'd give them a try. I fell in love with them. Even with using mics 10x's more expensive these are just as good and you aren't busting your budget for them.

best mic ever

By rosh

from minneapolis, mn

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I have used this mic for over 7 years. We have 6 of them and they are all amazing. The sound reproduction is unbelievable. The betas also are incredibly durable. I mic kids who do not know much about proper mic care. We have had them drop, abused, etc. and they all still work flawlessly. I have used them in both concert and theater applications. I have recorded songs with them. Although they are not true condensers, they still work very good at micing drums, guitars, pianos, etc. I would highly recommend everyone purchase them.

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I bought this mic for the singer in my current project. She is an alto R&B/rock singer. I felt that based on my research it would be a good fit for her vocals. I took this mic to my other project to try it out. I substituted it for my standard SM58. I do death/thrash metal. I thought this mic would be wasted on me, but I have never sounded better. This mic is very responsive but is not as conducive to death metal techniques. I would need to use way more compression for the proximity effect to get close to it like I do with the standard SM58. That said, I stood off it about 4 to 6 inches for the screaming and it sounded not too bad. The higher pitched stuff came across great at that distance but more compression would be needed for growling up close. For all the singing I did, I felt startled at the presence it gave me. It cut right through a ridiculously thick mix even though my singing voice is weaker than a newborn kitten's meow. I know it will be great for better singers than me, but I want one for myself now.

This Shure SM58a Beta beats the original SM58 and the Sennheiser e845 Pro- by a long shot!!

By Josh Alexander

from Garland, TX

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I work at a church in Garland, TX as a sound engineer. Out of all of the Mic's we currently own I would have to say this is the absolutely the best non-condenser Mic money can buy!! The only Mic I would prefer more than this one would be the Shure SM81 Condenser Mic, only because it is the perfect condenser Mic I've ever worked with. If youۡre on a budget and youۡre trying to choose between this and the SM58.... BUY THIS! You won't be disappointed. Out of all of the Mic's our church owns this is my preferred Mic of choice when Mic'ing the lead vocalist. We have 5 of these Mic's in our church currently for about 3 years now- and so far I've experienced no problems with this: it's a quality product built for long term use and durability.

Great mic but...

By Josh

from Findlay, OH

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I've own this mic as well as many others and I would say this is my second favorite mic. Great clarity, reliable, durable, decent gain and looks good as do most Shure mics. But like I said second favorite mic, why pay the extra money when a traditional SM58 still outshines every live application vocal mic that I have ever performed with. I bought this mic because it is said to cut through the loudest mix but it seems the SM58 cuts through the mix with much more low end and presence than the Beta. I have since passed this mic down to my bass player for back-up vocals and returned to my SM58. That said, great mic, worth checking out or adding to your arsenal, but wont replace your SM58.

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

Ok so this mic is pretty powerful. While no mic will make you sing better this one does provide excellent sound, everything is very crisp and clear. So far no feedback problems at all.

This Mic will change your performance!

By amy wong

from Plano, Texas

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I enjoy singing and I know I am pretty good at it. I never thought that I need a good mic because no matter what kind of microphone I use, I always sound decent. Until I bought this Shure Beta 58....OMG, where have I been? Why did I not purchase this mic earlier? I purcased a Sennheiser E835 a month ago, I thought E835 is a good mic, but after I bought the Shure Beta 58A, now I know what is a GOOD Mic. Beta 58A delivered "clear & powerful sound" This mic sounds much louder than Sennheiser E835 when both microphones set to the same volume. after I read all the positive reviews on different websites. I know I made a best purchase on this mic. I wouldn't buy another brand/model. I will only purchase Shure and stay with Beta 58A.

Crystal Clear Vocals!

By ROBERT LISANTI

from Peekskill, NY

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

So I read alot of reviews first before I even thought of watching demos and youtube reviews for this mic, I already own the SM58 for around 3 yrs now and I love it, but since I got a Gift card for the holidays I wanted a slight upgrade, all I can say is that this Mic is much clearer and crystal clear, everything is more pronounced and distinct. I do alot of home recording and this mic is highly recommended for recording, you dont always need a "Condensor" mic to get great sound just do some tweaking and you will get a great recording!

Comments about Shure Beta 58A Supercardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone:

I just bought this microphone and had to write a review. I very rarely write reviews of products unless the product was exceptionally good, or overall just terrible. After trying out this mic, I felt the need to write a review to hopefully help someone who is maybe going through the same dilemma as I was.

I've been using the low end Berhinger XM8500 for years. For the money, that mic is probably reasonable, and from the reviews on it I know many people swear by it. I've always thought my vocals were pretty good, but lately I was doubting my ability to sing clearly and hit the right pitches correctly. Everything has been sounding really muddy and just not overall not exciting. We upgraded our PA, and the sound was better but still just sort of mumbled all together and the words weren't crisp and clear. I finally researched some mics and decided to pull the trigger on this bad boy. The 700% increase in price when compared to my existing microphone definitely made me hesitant to fund this purchase. However, as soon as I plugged it into the PA and performed a few songs, I was seriously blown away. This thing is absolutely incredible and has really brought back my vocal confidence. I can't believe the difference between this and my old mic. It is seriously night and day. I'm incredibly excited to gig with this microphone. This crispness and receptiveness to capture your true voice is unbelievable. I really cannot say enough about this mic. I have never used the SM58 so I cannot make that comparison. I felt like if I was going to invest the money for the 58 I might as well take the leap and try out the Beta. I own tons of music equipment, so much that my wife thinks I'm crazy and have a problem. But this is one of those purchases I'll never, ever regret. My only regret is that I didn't upgrade to a good Shure microphone years ago. I feel like my vocal potential in my gigging has been limited because of that decision. I'm just glad I finally upgraded.
