  • Thought I might like it... Got it... LOVE IT!

As reviewed by Corey on 4/7/2011

I wasn't sure what I would get when I purchased this amp. It got good reviews, and the online demos sounded pretty sweet as well. I ended up be VERY surprised by this amp. It was all I expected and MORE! I will be gigging with it next weekend, so I'm not completely convinced it will take over my H&K Trilogy amp I have now, but I am pretty sure it will. This is a LOUD 30 watts, don't think it's lacking in power - because it is not! And the variable output option is great! I usually run it 2 tubes, full power (15watt) and can still get my drummer telling me to turn it down in practice. The Clean channel is beautiful! Rich, full, very clean - starts to break up around 11 o'clock on the volume pot. I had a Fender DRRI at home and loved the cleans - this thing comes pretty close!!! I have since sold the Fender. The Dirty channel is where it's at!! The shape control is VERY usable, anything from mid pumped to full on Metal scooped mids. The gain control can do ANYTHING from Slight breakup to OH MY - HOW COULD I POSSIBLY USE THIS MUCH GAIN!!! Effects loop is great! - Tube Driven too. Take a look at this amp... I'm impressed by this Chinese made wonder. Who says it has to be UK / American Made to ROCK!

  • One of the best!

As reviewed by Nick on 4/4/2011

Just looking at the amp, it doesn't seem like you get much for your money, but the fact of the matter is that this amp sounds absolutely fantastic. Why would you need a million controls if you can get the perfect sound with three? That seems to be the philosophy behind what Orange does, and it definitely succeeds here. I imagine there are some guitarists out there who like to change their tone all the time to suit a particular style, but the vast majority of us find a tone we like and leave it. There are actually more tones in this amp than meets the eye, but I like that there aren't a bunch of controls I'm never going to use anyway. The cleans are punchy and warm--not bright like a Fender or a Vox, but full and very detailed. The dirty channel gives the most articulate overdrive of any amp I have played, which is what drew me to Orange amps in the first place. Clean, crisp, punchy, and articulate. Just the right amount of grit to give the distortion some edge. For best results, pair it with an Orange cab, too, or just get the combo! This amp is my favorite, hands down.

  • Had it for 2 weeks now and convinced this amp is a keeper for life...

As reviewed by Doug on 7/19/2011

OK...I did a lot of research prior to this purchase. And like anyone reading this, you know it gets great reviews. But they don't do it justice. It is fantastic for all sorts of music, except perhaps death metal, but even then, it can hold its own. I love the minimum amount of controls but still have the ability to dial in your tone just right, along with the various user-selectable output levels. The clean channel sparkles with no noise, hum or hiss from the amp. The dirty channel shines from a hit of overdrive to high gain, all along without losing the definition of the notes. It's being played through an Orange 2x12 open-back cab. On the negative side, I did require an exchange (but Guitar Center was great about it) due to some weird 'harmonic rattle' at certain notes, but the replacement is perfect. I did change out the stock tubes after doing more research to JJ's, and they make it even smoother across the entire level of clean to dirty...sort of like polishing off some of the rough edges. I managed to get it during a 15% off sale which basically made the cost of the JJ tubes nil. You will not be disappointed...very good amp & very good build quality (even with the minor problem I had with the first amp...which I know could have been tube related but I didn't want to take a chance and was still in the return/exchange window from Guitar Center). Cheers!
