GREAT DRUMS OVERHEAD!!

By alfredo

Comments about Sterling Audio Sterling ST6050 FET Studio Condenser Mic Ocean Way Edition:

I've been a drummer for over 35 years, own 3 recording studios and have used many different mics as overheads (Neumann U87, Rode Nt4, Royer SF 12, AKG 414, Shure 81s, etc..), this mic beats them all!! I wasn't too sure about it because of it's Chinese manufacturing, but boy, I'm amazed by the quality of this little beast. I tried it with vocals and guitar, too. Personally, I prefer the U87 for guitar and my voice, but it beat AKG's 414 and Solidtube by far in that terrain. Bottom line, I haven't found a better mic for drum overheads. I would really recommend it for this purpose. It's Great!

Not as great for acoustic guitars

By Vladimir Sushkov

from San Jose, CA

Comments about Sterling Audio Sterling ST6050 FET Studio Condenser Mic Ocean Way Edition:

I tried this mic to record acoustic guitar with steel strings, but was not much impressed. I tried both neck and bridge positions, about 4-5 inchges away from the guitar. I did A/B comparison with the recording through the same setup with Sterling Audio ST69, set to cardioid pattern, and in my opinion ST69 sounded better both at the neck and at the bridge positions at the same distance from the guitar. However ST6050 mic may be great for vocals - for which I did not care about at the time. The build quality of this mic is truly excellent. The shock mount is actually able to hold the mic in place, which is nice. However you need a solid stand that does not tilt over as the mic itself is fairly heavy.

Clarity that you can hear

By 1327510

Comments about Sterling Audio Sterling ST6050 FET Studio Condenser Mic Ocean Way Edition:

I love everything about this mic, it sounds amazing with singers and i have used it on rapping vocals as well very nice airy presence around 8-10 kHz. The only thing that bugged me was that the mic its self is made in China and the body of the mic feels a bit cheap in my opinion. Overall it sound amazing and I don't really care were it was made anymore

Excellent Microphone

By Timothy Taylor

from Bristow, Virginia

Comments about Sterling Audio Sterling ST6050 FET Studio Condenser Mic Ocean Way Edition:

I got this Microphone to record a female artist who has a very wide dynamic range...she goes from low and soft like Diana Krall, to loud, and strident like Pat Benatar. Though I have a variety of Microphones that are truly excellent, this Microphone brought out the best in my female artist. It is smooth and creamy without harshness, and can handle high SPL's. DO use a high quality stand. This Microphone is VERY sensitive, and will pick up any extraneous sound transmitted through the stand. I bought a killer stand with it, and do not regret the decision. I gave this a spin with my own vocals which are a lot like Greg Lake, and WOW. This microphone is as good or better than the Neumann TLM49, AKG C414 XL IIs, beats the daylights out of my Sputnik, and puts all the other Sterling Audio and RODE mics to shame. This one is a bargain! I have had it for about a month now, and it has performed beautifully.
