  • Love it & hate it

I really liked how it sounded in the store. At home, I liked the clean channel tone, although it doesn't really do anything interesting when you max out the gain. So there's this big tonal gap between the clean channel and the crunch/overdriven channels. The crunch and the overdriven channels sound really good when single notes are played (like a solo). And the effects are decent and very usable. My big problem with this amp is that almost any chord played in crunch/OD sounds horrible. You hear the notes you intend to play, but you also hear this horrible bass undertone. No amount of tinkering or adjusting seems to help. It even comes through on headphones. I took it back and the rep didn't seem to think it was a problem. I would have returned it, but for the money I still thought it was the best choice for me. I do have a lot of fun with it and in many situations it sounds really good, but the horrible chord sounds are just becoming unbearable. I bought the service plan and I will be returning it before long and buying something more expensive since I can't seem to find anything decent in this price range. Functionally everything seems to work exactly as it should (knobs, switches, etc.)

  • good tones but poorly made

As reviewed by THB356 on 3/3/2011

I bought this amp in late may of 2010. I thought the OD could have been a little heavier since its a Marshall, but maybe my Fender Jaguar is to blame. Anyway, the amp worked perfectly up until a couple months ago. The nut that holds the input jack to the face plate fell off, and the jack fell back into the amp. This shouldn't have been too big of a deal. All I had to do was open the amp up and put the nut back on, but the problem is that the jack and the nut are made of plastic, so the thread on the jack was stripped, and the nut wasn't able to be screwed back on. I don't know why Marshall couldn't shell out another three dollars on a metal jack and nut instead of crappy plastic ones.

  • Ok tones butt...

I just got this amp today and though the tone is nice it has it's problems. The master volume pot is very noisy and the two button footswitch is not working properly. It will not cycle through all four channels (clean/crunch OD1/OD2), it is only cycling through clean and crunch. Not really happy that I can not seem to store my own presets to be footswitched properly as well. This amp is going back tomorrow.
