I have not had this box for very long so these are first impressions. The sound is great; 5 stars. As the other reviews have said. I dropped a star because of some "usability issues". 1. There is no way to eliminate the 9V battery. Most pedals have an input for a external power supply / battery eliminator; this doesn't. 2. The "effects loop" interface: The output (to the effects) is on the tip of a TRS jack and the return (from the effects) is on the ring of the same jack. You need a Y cable (simplest) to split the two signals for connections to/from the effects/pedals. I chose to make a footswitch box so I could bypass or enable all the effects at once. If you have several effects connected, e.g. chorus, reverb, delay & looper, you can reconfigure them without risking "bad stuff" getting out to the PA, then enable them.
I purchased the Para Acoustic D.I. after doing a bit of research for a D.I. at this price point. I had been using a homemade Tillman pre-amp and amp/board EQs but never seemed to get the sound I was after. I must say I was not disappointed after I bought this unit. Almost straight out of the box I was happier than I'd ever been with the sound from almost any guitar I plug into it. I have a Schatten EP-01 transducer in an import spider cone Reso and the D.I. really allows it to shine despite the lackluster guitar/pickup. I was able to balance the tone while getting rid of some muddy resonances. I've also used it with System 600T mkII pickup system and it does wonders to remove the harsh tones I struggled with from that guitar in the past. Overall I?m very impressed with how quickly you can make the needed adjustments. Like the other reviewers said, the construction is solid, with a well thought out layout which makes adjusting to a room pretty easy during sound check. One of the best purchases I?ve ever made, just wish I had bought it sooner.
Playing '76 D28 through para DI to Marshall acoustic amp. Before adding DI, the sound through the amp was bright and tinny, and tweaking the EQ settings on the amp didn't accomplish what I wanted. The DI allowed me to REALLY warm up the tone. Unbelievable difference. I'd consider taking 1/2 a star off for ease of use (the notch and sweep controls take some fiddling), but I haven't spent enough time really tinkering to master them, and I'm sure I will appreciate the flexibility when the need arises.
I'm the music Director at my church so we have to learn new songs constantly with different band member each week. a Good Clear acoustic tone that the rest of the band can anchor to is essential to do what we do. this makes any guitar sound 10 times better. from hear on out i probably wont pay extra for nice on board electronics on an acoustic guitar. even if it is just a single source pickup with bare min electronics, the guitar will sound amazing through this thing
I first purchased the LR Baggs Anthem pic up system and thought I wasted $300.00. It was installed in a custom ordered Martin OM-15. I had it built because a used one could not be found during the two years I've been searching. I didn't want what the pic ups Martin offered so it arrived a real acoustic. The pic up system was very disappointing. In desparation I consulted a gear tech that I know and he highly recommended the LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI. Not long after plugging in and a little tweaking, my guitar came to life. This is the tone I've been searching for. I plugged in my Taylor "Chris Proctor" signature model and it sounded better than ever. The Taylor always got compliments at my gigs without a DI. This piece of gear is awesome. You gotta get this regardless of what pic up system or guitar you have. Playing with a balanced signal and all the bennies this DI offers is a must.
The LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI works great with a mandolin and violin as well. It gives a great boost and makes them sound full and rich with tone. It actually replicates the acoustic sound of your instrument. I've used it with my upright bass too and it also sounds great.
I use this at the church where I do sound. the guitarist uses (what I believe is) a Seagull Coastline S6 Slim guitar. Plugged into this, it brings the guitar to life. We run it through a Yamaha LS9-32 mixer. Even without the mixer's compresor, EQ, and reverb, this DI box acts a super-preamp for the guitar, adding everything but 'verb to the signal. This allows the performer much more judgement for their guitar tone (usually determined by the sound engineer) and leaves everyone happier and stress-free. Although the price seems a little steep for what you get, it is much cheaper than buying a rack of compressors, EQ's, etc. for your guitar or wasting money on a cheaply-made acoustic guitar effects pedal. If you're willing to shell out the money, you'll be quite happy with the results!
I have really enjoyed my LR Baggs acoustic di box. It has worked great for me and i get a great sound out of my acoustic guitar. I can really tell the difference from a cheaper di box to this one. This one was definitely worth the few extra dollars it cost
What a shame!! I have been playing my guitars without one of these?? For how long?? The L.R. Baggs Para D.I. IS all they say and more. This just brings sound to life. If you play an acoustic through an amp without one of these you are missing out.
If you have a passive pick up on your guitar, you got to get one of these. It will totally up the sound quality of the guitar, giving it more juice and punch to it. I think its the best acoustic DI out there because it gives you total control of what you want. Highly recommend it.
