Overview

The Godin A6 Ultra Semi-Acousti-Electric guitar offers the innovative concepts found in all Godin A-series guitars. You get plugged-in acoustic sound with the feel of an electric guitar neck, along with a chambered body that virtually eliminates feedback in live and loud settings.

The Godin A6 Ultra guitar adds "oomph" and full tone with a Godin humbucker pickup in the neck position. Other enhancements include an under-saddle transducer, dual outputs (acoustic and electric) that combine for huge stereo sound and a Custom Godin preamp voiced specifically for the A6 Ultra. The preamp gives guitarists control of their tone via sliders for acoustic volume, treble, mid, bass and independent controls for the electric humbucker volume, treble and bass.

Whether plugging into the single acoustic mix or in stereo (via both outputs), controlling your tone is at the tip of your fingers. And the Godin A6 Ultra guitar delivers in all styles of music from jazz to rock to country as well as being a great blues slide guitar.

Other appointments on the Godin A6 Ultra guitar include a solid cedar top, a 2-chambered silver leaf maple body, semi-gloss mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, and the comfortable feel of an ergocut back.

Includes a gig bag.

I Use .10 to .47 acoustic Elixer Nanoweb 80/20 Bronze strings (not Phospher Bronze) . I tried about 7 different Gauges and sets of strings acoustic and electric. This gives me a perfect acoustic sound and a great electric tone also. Electric strings sacrifice acoustic sound and I found these acoustic strings didn't sacrifice electric sound or tone. I might add I didn't like play ability or sound of original sting. These set of 10s play much easier with the elixers. Not sure why ? they are supposed to have 10s originally. This guitar shines when using both signals separate and is perfect in a solo act. Will never replace a great acoustic or a great electric used by themselves. I play Modern praise and worship rock. I run acoustic Jack to PA and Electric Jack through a Zoom G3X into the PA. I get a huge sound. I use the volume pedal on my electric sound in the G3x set as the amp Gain and its perfect. I bring in the Gain on the pedal as needed for more of a rock sound. All I can say is WOW. Play ability is more like an acoustic with light gauge stings on it. I'm use to high end acoustics and electrics. It wont play like a fine electric but is defiantly easier on the hands than most acoustics out there. Over all a set of new strings and a little tweaking with how your set up and its amazing.

I purchased this guitar based on all the great reviews. I expected a guitar that I could play and get an acoustic and electric sound and the A6 has it. However, after the first five frets the play ability is that of a very cheep instrument. The strings are so far away from the neck that it is impossible to even to get clear chords let alone single notes. Play ability is everything in a guitar. I know because I have been playing for almost 60yrs and I knew when I received the guitar I made a terrible mistake.

Just wanted to add a thought

By George Hummel

Comments about Godin A6 Ultra Semi-gloss Semi-Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After submitting my review I had a realization. Most acoustic/electric hybrids come from the mindset of taking an acoustic guitar and electrify it. Godin takes an electric guitar and "acoustify" it. What fun to play!

feels like an old friend

By Mark Edgerley

from Houston, TX

Comments about Godin A6 Ultra Semi-gloss Semi-Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I?ve seen two of my guitar heroes (Bill Frisell, Bruce Cockburn) play Godin Semi-Acoustics, and switch seamlessly between clean clear acoustic sound to scorching leads. So these guitars have been on my wish list for several years. With the A series, I was surprised at the quality at such a great price. I haven?t been disappointed. I do a lot of direct in to the board, and with the separate jacks, I can take the humbucker through the various effects and the acoustic pickup straight to a clean channel. The sliders make it easy to emphasize one or the other or blend the sound. I?ve since ordered an acoustic 15w amp to try the two amp set-up. Straight out of the box, it feels like an old friend. Very easy to play, no rough edges or break in period that I have experienced with other new guitars. I?m very surprised at the sound quality even when not plugged into anything. This makes it a great practice instrument. It?s also probably the lightest weight guitar I own, yet still very solid and well made. Yes, . I would highly recommend this guitar.

Comments about Godin A6 Ultra Semi-gloss Semi-Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I wanted a guitar to replace my acoustic-electric for most of the songs we play in the 4 piece group I play in. The Godin A6 Ultra has become my favorite guitar due to the ease of playing and the tones I get by utilizing the dual cord system. I plug the chord for the bridge pickup directly into one of the PA mixer channels and the other I run through my pedals before going to another channel of the Mixer. The GC in Kentwood, MI processed my order and it arrived as described and on time. Their return policy of 45 days provides plenty of time to try it out.

    Great quality for price.

    By David Bedini

    from Greensboro NC

Comments about Godin A6 Ultra Semi-gloss Semi-Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

First, a note. Godin says in its literature that this guitar sounds best if you use two separate amps. It does have two radically different pickup systems, the humbucker, which is quite hot, and the piezo. It really helps if you have good headroom on your input. That said, I use an old Crate acoustic amp, going through the guitar input for the bridge pickup, and the spare channel for the 'bucker, and I get a good sound, or rather several good sounds. For a relatively inexpensive guitar, this thing is beautifully made, very clean. I have had no problems with the tuners, stability, or electronics. Now, very subjectively, I really like the neck on this thing. It has nice room for finger style stuff, and yet I can play leads with ease, and it has 22 frets! Not bad for a sort of acoustic thingy. So, it is an odd bird, but it has versatility. I would gladly play it as a solo for coffeehouse kind of stuff, jazzy kinds of things, adding an acoustic rhythm sound in a band setting. I think you should play one before deciding, but it's worth a look.

    Schweeeet!!

    By George Hummel

    from Phila., PA

Comments about Godin A6 Ultra Semi-gloss Semi-Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Many guitars are copies of classic designs. My Godin Velocity, for instance is very Strat-like-- but this beauty is unique. I wanted an acoustic sound with the ability to plug into my looper. As a long time electric player I find acoustics to be chunky and uncomfortable to play. The A6 is a great answer to these issues. The A6 looks like a thick Tele so I imagine heft similar to my Tele when I pick her up. Chambered body however makes the instrument incredibly light weight. It also makes it very resonant. I discovered the hard way with an early morning headphone session. I can slap on the phones with my slab guitars or even my semi-hollow and melt my frontal lobes The construction and material quality of the guitar are flawless. The woods are lovingly selected and crafted with care. The electronics work well and with tweaking you can dial in acoustic tones, hollow-body sounds and some twangy electric sounds. The instrument isn't really designed for a thick heavy distorted sound-- but what do you want from an acoustic-electric hybrid? The instrument is very comfortable and easy to play. They are really hard to find so it was a leap of faith to order the guitar blind but I have no regrets. My only gripe is the understated off-center fret markers take some getting used to for an old dog with bifocals! I would strongly recommend this or any other guitar made by Godin.

      Great Guitar. Great Value

      By GREG GESAMAN

      from Des Moines, Iowa

Comments about Godin A6 Ultra Semi-gloss Semi-Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a fusion guitar that could give both electric and acoustic tones with great playability for my solo acoustic\looping sessions. I tried a Taylor T-5 and researched many others. Everything I found was either insanely expensive or junk. Then, I finally stumbled on the Godin A6. This thing is exactly what I was looking for! It is a quality built instrument that plays and sounds top notch - and it's a tremendous value. It's almost the equal of a T-5 in every way for about 1/3 the cost! The acoustic and clean electric tones are awesome and they mix extremely well. It also has a great neck and plays like butter! The dual outputs make instant switching between acoustic and electric tones and amps easy or you can switch and blend manually on the guitar. It also doesn't feed-back easily, which is a problem with many of the alternatives. The only weakness I'm still working on is that I can't get a decent distorted tone out of it. It's truly a great guitar and a great value!

Comments about Godin A6 Ultra Semi-gloss Semi-Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My wife bought this for me as a gift (hence her name on the account). She knew that I needed a new acoustic, but that I wanted something that played like an electric. This guitar plays very well, both plugged in and unplugged. I haven't used this guitar at a show yet, but I am looking forward to it. The only downside, when playing unplugged, is that this guitar doesn't have any low end. The thin body and lack of soundhole contributes to that. I wasn't expecting it to have a ton of low end, so this isn't really an issue for me. I'd recommend this guitar to anyone that's looking for an acoustic that plays like an electric.

Comments about Godin A6 Ultra Semi-gloss Semi-Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar was recommended to me by my cousin. I looked around locally and could not find one. I don't like buying a guitar without playing it first. After reading all the reviews I was sure that this guitar would fit my needs. I saw that it was on sale at Guitar Center and they sent me a coupon to use. I pulled the trigger and ordered it. Shipping was free and Guitar Center got it to me in two days. Love the guitar it is everything I hoped it would be. I did change the strings and I haven't put it down since. It's easy to play and sounds great through the transducer and the humbucker, perfect for solo gigs. It doesn't sound great unplugged but it wasn't designed for that. Love the guitar, perfect for what I wanted it for and got a great deal through Guitar Center.
