The Godin xtSA Flame Electric Guitar's sound power begins with three distinct voices: electric guitar, acoustic guitar and synth controller. The xtSA delivers big time electric sounds via the Godin humbucker-single-humbucker pickup configuration. Thanks to a special 5-way switch setup, extra meaty humbucker tones co-exist with glassy split-coil sounds in the second and fourth positions.
Turn down the electric output and raise the volume on the RMC transducer saddles and the xtSA sounds like an authentic acoustic guitar. The acoustic voice of the xtSA is enhanced by an onboard preamp with a three-way graphic EQ. The two outputs are set up so that the electric and acoustic voices can be blended in the guitar using a single patch cord or at the amp/mixer using both outputs.
The icing on the xtSA cake comes in the form of its synth tracking. As with all Godin synth-ready instruments, a built-in 13-pin connector provides direct access to all Roland GR-Series synths as well as most other 13-pin devices.
All of this sound power would be a lot less interesting if the guitar didn't feel great. Thanks to the same 25" scale mahogany neck used on the Godin flagship LGX-SA guitar, this is a very comfortable guitar to play. The ebony fingerboard is shaped with Godin's ergocut technique and equipped with medium jumbo frets. The body is made from a silverleaf maple center with poplar wings and decorated with a figured maple veneer on top.

I absolutely love this guitar. I bought this guitar 2 years ago and have loved ever since. I wanted a guitar that sounded amazing as well as looked amazing. Apparently Godin must have made this guitar just for me because I am in love with it. Godin is a brand that you really don't hear much about. When I first saw it I hesitated because I was really looking for A big name like fender or Ibanez. This guitar is just as good or better than either one of those big name guitars. The number of pickups gives you a huge variety of sounds. The acoustic setting sounds just like an acoustic. The only problem that I have noticed is that the input for the patch cable sometimes comes loose, but that is an easy fix. I guarantee that if you buy this guitar, you will absolutely love it.
I won't go into the tech specs here. Just check out the rest of this page. I will just say that I, like many GC customers, do a lot of casuals. After a lot of years doing them, I finally wised up and started bringing less gear to each gig. The "folks" didn't know the difference but my back sure did.
I researched guitars that would cover a lot of sonic landscape and found the Godin xtSA. It does a bunch of things pretty well. I would not say it is the "perfect" rock, metal or jazz instrument, but it comes close enough to allow you to leave your other five axes at home. If you do casuals and you have to cover a lot of different styles, this is, in my opinion, as close as you're likely to get for under a grand.
Obviously, sound is very subjective, so test drive one yourself. The fact that it is midi capable may not be a deal maker for a lot of you but it is a handy extra to have if you need to fill some holes in a very small group.
Give it a shot. Ditch the JBL arena array for a Stagepass. Leave the Les Paul, the Strat, the PRS and the mic'ed nylon string at home. Your chiropractor will not like it but you and your back will.
By the way, I had a warranty issue with the guitar that Godin sent to me and the folks at GC handled getting a replacement with no hassles and in time for me to not miss any Christmas gigs. I have had the guitar only 3 months now but so far, no problems.
Thanks, Guys
I only deal with high-end Gibsons, fenders, martins, taylors, etc. But I decided to try the Godin xtSA because I own the Roland GK-55 Synth and I liked the convenience of the midi out and the acoustic capability. I had never purchased a guitar online as I usually prefer to play an instrument first. I decided (hesitantly) to give Godin a try. I must say, WOW! I am EXTREMELY picky when it comes to my guitars setup and the xtSA was PERFECT right out of the box!! The action was just right, the tension of the tuning heads and control knobs was just right, the guitar feels very well made...Needless to say, I was impressed! I can tell when a company puts pride and attention to detail in their product, and Godin definitely does! I then discovered that all Godin guitars are made in North America (a big plus to me)!! I can't speak for every Godin guitar, but my first Godin experience has been a great one!! Go Godin!!
