Overview

They have brilliant overtones for a full, resonant tone, a quick response for better articulation, and excellent pitch stability and intonation, even for clarinet. Best of all, they have the same woody tone as cane but with better projection. Fibracell reeds even have the same weight and stiffness as cane (cane floats and so does Fibracell!) but they last up to 4 times longer with no unplayable reeds and aren't affected by heat or humidity. With their high strength and long-lasting durability, they're less likely to give out on you in the middle of a performance, too.

What is Fibracell?

Fibracell is a sophisticated composite of aerospace materials designed to exactly duplicate the way nature constructs the cane that goes into the very best cane reeds. Very stiff but sound-absorbing Kevlar fibers are suspended in a lightweight rosin using extremely exacting production standards. Each reed is precisely machined and trimmed for a consistently perfect shape, so you get the same reed time and time again.

I needed a synthetic so I could have a reliable practice reed, that could cross over to be a backup if needed, and this one works great! It doesn't have quite as warm of a sound as a cane reed, so I personally wouldn't necessarily want to use it in a concert, but I could if I had to. It still does sound very good. Using it, I have good tone, intonation, articulation, steady air flow, and appropriate resistance. The only thing I would reccommend is to get one in a softer strength than you're use to playing with. Fibracell's strength comparison chart can be found here: http://www.fibracelldirect.com/compchart.htm So, I currently play with Vandoren Java #2 reeds, a Rico Royal B5 Graftonite mouthpiece on a 1963 Buescher Super 400, and I purchased the Fibracell 1.5 strength. I also have to say that their customer service was excellent! I initially purchased a Bari * M reed and it's strength was much harder than their comparison chart suggested. Since they don't do refunds on reeds (understandably so), and since I was a first time customer, they cut me a deal on this Fibracell reed and it all worked out beautifully! Thank you guys very much for your great care of me as a customer, and for sending me a great quality product!

i've been using fibracells for 20 years, and my complaint about them hasn't changed since the beginning. they are extremely inconsistent from one reed to the next. worse than cane reeds. i have always used the same strength, and i have a box of them i received that were way too soft or way too hard. i don't know how this is possible with a synthetic except with extremely poor quality control. they should sell to a company that cares about consistency, as the price of these reeds makes one expect better.

I'm allergic to cane, so I'm stuck with these guys.
They're man-made....each one should be identical, but they're not!

i have been using Fiber cell reeds for tenor , alto and soprano and they are the best ever for one who likes to play at different intervals during the day without having to wet their reed repeatedly ..
ive been hooked on them for at least 15 yrs ,, yes they are more expensive than ordinary reeds but they also last longer without ever curling or changing their dynastic-ism for longer periods of time .. worth the price and Musicians Friend saves me a long trip to any good music store which are not to convenient to where i live .. bobby g..

Comments about Fibracell Premier Synthetic Tenor Saxophone Reed:

I am 73 years old and I play in a band twice a week. This reed is easy for me to blow, sounds great and can be played dry with no prior wetting. This is important for me as the sax may sit for long periods between song sets and the reed is always ready.

I played Java 2 for years with a Meyer 7 mpc, I tried the 1.5 then the 2 fibracell but had problems with altissimo especially high g, the 2.5 is the good strength for me so far, high notes pop out. I don't really feel any difference though in the feeling, the 2.5 doesn't feel harder tp play which is interesting so i will keep trying the higher number reeds and see what they do. Great reeds for extreme weather conditions and/or doublers.

                      The 2 1/2 is similar to a Vandoran 2, or like 2 1/2 Rico.
I hope it lasts longer for me than a friend indicates that it will.
