I recently purchased this amp with the intention of having a back up amp for my fender jr. After 40 years of playing (I am in noway a pro but I can keep up with a lot of folks. )I have learned that amps can quit on you at any time and lower end tube amps are even more likely. I play in a Blues band and as we are aging the excess volume is becoming more of an issue especially in the smaller venues. like I said before this was for back up but I decided to try it out a few times and I am absolutely impressed with its performance. It is very simple to use , I set it on a black face dirty setting with about 5 on gain and a little reverb and that was all it took to get some great Strat blues tones. The great thing about this amp is I can use it for practice at really low volumes and then take out for a show and really not change anything and get the same results. NICE. I am a long time tube guy like most others but I am also a realist and if I can get great sound and not have to carry a bunch heavy stuff and keep a bunch of different amps around, hey I'm all for it. This weighs 40 pounds, not bad compared to its tube counterpart.
I always wanted a decent amount of wattage at a low price and tried this one out at Guitar Center and it is sounded and still sounds great. The clean channel is exceptional and the other channel has so many effects and mods. The foot switch to change between channels is very handy. This is such a great sounding solid state that I don't even want want to think about tube amps again. I only wish it had a built in tuner like my little fender mustang practice amp. You can't beat the sound and power at this price.
I purchased this amp to take to open mics and jam sessions where thief, beer spills and cigarette burns are not just probable, they?re likely. I?ve owned a couple of solid state amps, but my passion is Fender tube power. I?ve got a few of the ?holy grail? Fenders like a blackface Super and silverface Deluxe plus a few tweed clones (Cox Amps?RIP Brian Cox)?but, I don?t dare take them out to play. This amp will never replace my valve amps, but WOW this is great amp. It?s a convergence of technology and cost effective production that is almost too good to be true. How could a solid state amp get such good reviews? It preforms like an amp many times its cost. But, it?s not great because it?s cheap?that?s just the icing. This thing sounds great. I love the punchy clean tones of the Twin Reverb channel and even more the thick blackface tones on tap from the second channel. I could care less about the British tones, but here if you need them. The gain control sweeps from clean to super crunch without ear splitting volume, but that?s on tap too. This amp doesn?t push as much air as a real Twin, but it?s pretty darn close. The effects and effect combinations are well conceived and realistic and the included foot switch makes the cannel and effect switching easy and useful. The cosmetics are great and the weight is only 40 lbs.! If you own only one amp for practice, recording, and gigging this is it. The combination of portability, versatility and affordability, is unmatched in the market today.
I think this amp is absolutely brilliant at clean stuff. With a good cable, it can cope with high gain too. The reason I'm giving this 4 stars and not 5 is that it does not give you the slightly crunchy stuff. e.g. guns and roses. Though, because it's so cheap, you can probably get someting else like an orange to do that for you. Overall, great value and quality.
I just purchased this amp a few weeks ago and I am absolutely loving it! This is my third Fender amp I own now simply because you can't go wrong with this brand. Good amount of built in effects and if you are using pedals they sound wonderful. This thing gets LOUD too. I don't have to go much over 5 on the volume when playing over my friends drums. If you want a good amp for jamming alone in your house or being used for smaller gigs then I would definitely check this amp out!
I recently bought this amp to replace my Crate V32. I'd been having constant repair problems with the Crate and simply got tired of the cost of maintaining a tube amp. While I love the sound of a tube amp, its expensive to upkeep. I have to say that I was blown away by the performance of the Champion 100. The clean channel is very clean and perfect for my pedal board. I like the sound of the amp models but I use the overdrive channel as simply a clean boost. And it works perfectly for that. Overall, the tone of this amp is very good, with plenty of volume for clubs. It sounds great mic'd. Its an extremely easy to use amp. I bought it on a Saturday afternoon and only had a few minutes to play through it in the store. I gigged with it that night and it did not let me down. This amp is very well worth the money and its very reasonably priced, putting it in a price range for anyone to be able to afford a reliable, great sounding guitar amp. I would recommend this amp to any guitar player.
This amp covers pretty much every distortion you need from jazz to metal. With the clean tone being modeled after the Fender Reverb, the clean channel is killer although you need to learn to control the cleans or else the will sound like farts. If you are an aspiring punk rocker for a Ramones/Green Day tone like me, this amp has that tone at a full-fleged 100 watts. This amp is what a beginner needs and makes an excellent practice/small gig amp for pros. The versatile nature of this amp is mouth watering.
I have several amps that I use in my home studio and this one is by far my "go to" amp. It delivers such a wide range of sounds that it makes the others almost obsolete. It can go hard and crunchy to clean in the blink of an eye. The 100 watts of power it packs can blow the windows out, but doesn't lose tone at lower volumes. If I were still playing gigs I'd pack this amp up for every show. And the great thing is, this amp is affordable to almost anyone who needs an amp.
