I've bought this head twice now because it's just so great! First I picked one up for a cheap Ludwig Accent snare and immediately the difference was noticeable. A few months later I bought one again for my '68 Ludwig Supraphonic and it brought it back to life! I used to have a Remo Powerstroke3 head on it and it rang and buzzed just a little too much. But with this head, it really sang. Despite it being a really thick head, I was able to tune it nice and tight just how I like it, didn't have any trouble at all. And even though it says "dry" it really doesn't give a dead sound at all. It's bright, warm, and poppy, and pretty much perfect for either studio or live settings.
I was on the search for a new snare drum head, and I was recommended this particular drum head. Let me say that I am impressed by the head, I use it on an sound percussion drum set and it still holds up pretty well with this new head.
This snare drum head cuts...no ringing?no overtones?I've been using this head for over 5yrs and gave up the other competitors drum heads. Evans has made my set sing and g2 all around!!!
Just changed over to this head after reading all the great reviews, and after getting it on and dialed in, it is every bit as awesome as the other reviewers said. From the first hit before I even fine tuned it, I could hear that it was going to sound great. I am using a Pork Pie little Squealer (13x7) and have had a couple different Remo heads, but this this makes it sound so much better. The most surprising thing about this head was that I dont even need my moon gel any more, there are no harsh overtones, or excessive ringing! I could never tune it out on the Remo heads, but this one just sounds great!
This head truly sounds great i thought with the holes it might be weak. I was wrong. strong head with a nice dry sound it makes me piccilo sound like a deep snare. i reccomend this head
All I can say is I always get compliments on my 12in Mapex. A very crisp, clean sound. Not hard to tune either. I'd say, give it a try, and just see for you self.
It sounds pretty good, once tuned correctly. It just sounds a little too ringy, but then again i just got it the other day, so i still might want to mess with it some more. i'd say it's worth the money.
I have this head on my Tama Star Custom B/B 14x5.5 snare and my Ludwig Black Beauty 14X6.5 snare drum. They dry out the drum real well and help out in live settings. I find the heads to produce more volume, which means I don't have to worry about miking the snare drum. I use Remo Emperor clear resonant heads on the bottom which gives just enough ring so the drum doesn't sound dead. Tuning is a breeze and they are extremely durable.
Evans by far makes the superior engineered head in the industry. The Genera HD Dry provides a crisp sound and minimal to no overtones. I love this head. I've been using for 2 years.
I had this head on my snare for a little over a year and was suprised it lasted that long. It gave me a loud crack and allowed me to still do soft roll crescendos into a full snare roll.
