Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:

I wanted to get a lower fundamental note on it and to replace the stock batter head that came with my Ludwig classic maple 20 in bassdrum. The head fits really well and appears solid. The problem is that it sits lower on the bearing edge. I wanted to tighten it up a little more for my taste but I had no more tension on the lugs. I thought, whoa. I was unable to tighten the head up. The lugs were flush and that was it.
So.....will see if I can take it back even though I already installed the beater patch. Guess I'll look into Remo at least for my Luddy kit.

Gives the Kick Drum new life!

Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:

I upgraded to this head from the stock heads that came with my new set. With sooooo many options for drum heads to choose from, I was not disappointed! The head gave my kick new life - it was deep, and boomy with a quick attack and decay.

Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:

These heads are almost like cheating!! Very little effort needed to get a killer deep thud out of your kick drum. I have one on both an old 80's Ludwig 24" and an acrylic DDrum 22". Fantastic sound and dynamics on both!! Love it!

        Great Bass Drum Sound

Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:

I visited a guitar center and asked if I could get a gmad head after doing some research online and wanting to try it. I had an emad years ago and now have a different kit which came with a power stroke 3. My local guitar center did not have it in stock, but they said they could order it and have it shipped to my home. It came and I noticed it has the new level 360 technology which was cool. I took the head and the included beater patch out and installed this baby. It took a little tuning to get it to sound just right (very loose resonant power stroke 3 with no sound hole) and just slight tension on this batter head. I used the smaller dampening ring and wow! This thing sounds great! Better than I expected. I would recommend this head. It has some sustain, very low bass note, and good attack. I believe the extra thickness over the original emad gives it better sound rather than that "knocking on a door" type sound. I'm more than happy.

        LOVE IT.

Comments about Evans GMAD Clear Batter Bass Drumhead:

Been playing for years on almost exclusively Evans EQ3 kick drum batters and always liked the wet, deep thud I could get out of them, especially in the studio. Then two years ago, I purchased a 6 piece GMS kit with the EMAD installed and was quickly reminded how important SINGLE PLY drumheads are for a drummer, especially in terms of response. The Powerstroke and EQ4 always left something (for me) to be desired and now I think I know why. The Evans GMAD/EMAD utilize the external dampening ring as opposed to internal. What this does is control the attack of the beater as soon as it strikes the head. With the internal muffling, it's all inertia and intial force onto the head, then through the damening rings and then finally to the front head. Your inital strike is essentially going through a wall of insulation and as we know, this will deplete volume. The GMAD feels better too. Quick doubles and triples with my Trick Pro V are EFFORTLESS and the attack and boom are nothing I've heard from other single ply heads, even the EMAD (thinner at 10mil). I had been using the large Falams pad on my kicks and I eventually learned what many others have found out...it actually "diminishes" the punch and attack. Thankfully, Remo is making them thinner now, with a plastic coating so the smaller dots and doubles now do as advertised. What really sets it apart is the thump...you can actually "hear" it when you strike the head. EQ3 and others, yeah I could, standing in front of the subs. I want to hear and feel it behind the kit and it delivers. No, you don't need extra internal muffling with this head but to erase that kickball on the concrete "ping" picked up by fine studio kick drum mics, it is best to lay SOMETHING inside your kick, just maybe not touching the front and back heads. It will absorb that high frequency. I'm right about this. Anyway, very impressive and that's coming from a Remo Ambassador guy all the way around the rest of his kits.
