Meh... so so kick drum sound

By

from California

Comments about Evans EQ4 Batter Head Clear:

I've recently purchased a new drum set that came with EQ 4 heads. The toms sound pretty good but my 22" kick drum leaves me wanting something different. It's really more a matter of taste, and I would describe the sound of this kick drum head as something that sounds more like "blap". I keep wanting to tighten this (already too tight) head because it sounds un-tuned, no matter how tight I make it. For me, the perfect kick drum sound is something between a resonant boom and a thud... never, ever "blap". I'll be heading back to GC for a Powerstroke 3, so if you're interested in an almost new kick batter head that goes blap, I can hook you up.

Great drumhead!

By

from Flagstaff, AZ

Comments about Evans EQ4 Batter Head Clear:

As a drumset instructor and fanatic, I am extremely picky about all my drumheads. I will begin by saying that I use both Remo and Evans heads, and both companies are in my opinion superior to any other. However, Evans technology is newer, and I find their heads are more "modern". I have used EQ2's and EQ3's, both with very satisfactory results. I thought I'd give the EQ4 a try when GC put it on sale. It's currently on a mapex, all-maple 22" Saturn series kit and sounds great... MUCH better than the Remo Pins I had before. The bass drum is overall louder and boomier and is quite capable of delivering a satisfying "punch" if you put on the right beater. The overtone control ring does it's job quite well. You don't have as much flexibility as the EQ3 where you can change out or add a second overtone ring, but I didn't like the extra dampening anyway so if you share my opinion you can save yourself some money with the EQ4. Overall, I would say it's a great buy. Evans is a great company and I can't wait to see what they come out with next.

Great Head, Huge Sound

By

from Austin, Tx

Comments about Evans EQ4 Batter Head Clear:

I have been playing drums for 16 years and have tried many different drum heads. I am currently using a Pearl Masters birch 18"x22" bass drum with the Evans EQ4 bass drum head. This head has a huge sound. The attack is very pronounced and focused while having a low end thud behind it but overall sounds very controlled and deep. It gives my bass drum a huge sound and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a big sound out of their bass drum. I am completely satisfied with this head.
