Overview

Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Guitar Strings are round-wound for maximum clarity and serious punch. The Cobalt Super Slinky set is clearly an improvement on its classic nickel-wound counterpart giving the player increased sustain, clarity and output. In addition, they resist sweat and moisture better and have unmatched flexibility when compared to other nickel wound strings. Cobalt is the most magnetically active string alloy on the planet and attracts the magnets in your pickups more than any other string.

"Ernie Ball Cobalt Strings sound and feel better than anything I've ever played! You have to check these out!" - Slash.
"Cobalt Strings feel incredibly silky under my fingers and deliver more punch, output, and clarity than normal strings!" - John Petrucci.
"There's a certain degree of clarity and punch you get from Cobalt Strings that I haven't heard tonally from any other strings I've played." - Joe Bonamassa.

I was talked into trying these strings instead of the normal strings I used because I wanted to expand my horizons.. The guy at my guitar center told me that they would bite harder and give me a better tone and more vibrant sound. So excited as I was I strung these puppies up tuned and started to play and within 10 minutes felt like I wanted to take them off and return them. I personally don't like the feel on my fingers. If you move up and down the fret board a lot prepare to feel as if your fingers are grinding on sandpaper and have a "stuck" feeling. Being as how they are one of the more expensive strings I was disappointed because I expected more but luckily have found a better string to play with.

Best Strings Ever

By Paul Edwards

from Southington, CT

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

I tried these strings about a month ago and was overwhelmed by how they sounded and felt right away. Totally blown over. It was like putting new pickups. That's how dramatic the change was. I promptly changed to these strings on all my electric guitars. Never felt so much about a set of strings and you should do yourself a favor and at least try one set and you will soon change over to these on all your electric guitars. Sincerely the best improvement in basic gear over the past ten years.

After using many other string brands I saw an add in a guitar magazine about these strings. I saw that all of my favorite players were using these so I tried them and ill never go back.

    Great Start, Wear out Fast

    By Ryan Michet

    from Chicago IL

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

I bought these strings and as soon as i put them on, they felt amazing. The sound was 10x better and they played smoothly. After the first week, they felt worn out and old. Then after the first month, (I don't change my strings as often as I should) the high e string broke. I am going to get the normal super slinky from now on. Also, the price for these are ridiculous, so just go for the regular ones in the pink package.

    Cobalt is good, yum

    By David Dennis

    from Eaton Rapids, MI

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

I put a set of these on my Fender limited edition custom Telecaster which has two Seymore Duncan pickups, a Pearly Gates bridge and a 59 PAF neck. I also put a set on my Epiphone G400 SG. The Tele was transformed, much more output, definition, sustain, just better across the board. The SG didn't show as much improvement but there was still measurable improvement. The Tele's Duncans are not near as hot as the SG's so that might be the difference. I normally use EB Super Slinkies (9-42) on each of them. I use EB Hybrids on my EPI LP and GC is the first place I've found that actually has them in cobalt. I'll review those once I get them on and play for a while. BTW: I have been playing for over 40 years, mostly classical, folk, blues, jazz. Arthritis has forced me to play electrics much more since they are much easier on fingers (unless you're trying to play weird Zappa chords that require 8 inch long fingers that have 5 joints). Remember: Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny...

    Don't waste your money

    By RANDOLPH MOLZER

    from Flint, Mi

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

I was talked into trying a set of these strings at my local Guitar Center. I put the on my Les Paul Traditional Pro. I did not like the feel of the right from the start. I feel that the wound strings are very rough and hard to slide on. IMO they color your sound to a very dark sound. I started to consider replace my pickups on my 'Paul due to the dark sound or even changing the cap values on the Pots. The strings finally go to the condition where they needed replaced. I put a set of regular old D'Addarios back on and gee, I don't feel like I need new pickups anymore. The brightness is back in the guitar. These strings to me are all marketing hype. Never again. I did give them a 2 instead of a 1 because they seemed to hold up pretty well.

These strings add a brightness to the tone, add gain without distortion, but will crunch nicely if you need to boost the gain and dig in.

            Not my thing

            from California

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

To be fair, I'm not a fan of Ernie Ball's Slinky strings to begin with, so maybe I'm biased. I decided to try these because of all the celebrity endorsements. While the strings do have a very bright and vibrant tone as advertised, the strings just felt wrong under my fingers. I kept missing slides, they bent harder, and just felt like an uncomfortable pair of shoes. I did not care for the tone either. I took them off after one week and went back to D'Addarios. I realize that different players like different strings, but I just did not like these and cannot recommend them.

Well the strings feel good and everything i didnt really hear a difference but what i really didn't like was after a week or soo the started colecting double the amount of gung than D'addarios not a fan at all maybe its just that its super slinky im goning to give the original green pack a try but i dont recommnd this one. D'addarios!

            Best strings

            By Andrew Arbuckle

            from Indiana

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

These are the best strings that i have ever used. I put a pair on my Ibanez in February, and with strings cleanings about every two weeks ( clean cloth & water ) they sound just as crisp and bright as the day that they were strung. They are definitely the easiest and silkiest strings that i have ever played.

            Broken Strings

            By Daniel Aslakson

            from Ohio

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

I've tried these strings out for the past several months because of all the hype about them, "cobalt" and whatnot. I don't know if its just me, but these strings don't seem to hold their tuning at all, the high e-string especially. I have two packs of these with the e string taken of of both of them to replace the one previously broken.

            Durability Like none other

            By Brian Tatman

            from Portland, Oregon

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

I play professionally and I know that there is nothing worse than having you equipment go down during a Gig. Thant includes strings. I use EB Cobalts only on every instrument that I own. I put them on a 69 Fender Custom Shop Strat, A 2013 Fender USA Deluxe strat and A Fender Blacktop Strat with a Floyd Rose. I also put them on a 60 Gibson Les Paul That I mainly use for slide. I have found that the only modifications to tone that I have to do is turn the tone controls on my distortion boxes back a little so there is not as much treble. I spent years changing and searching for the right strings for me and I have finally found my strings. These Ernie Ball Cobalt strings have outlasted all I have used in the past. From Rehearsals to Gigs they are indestructible and I am hard on strings.

            By David Niezabitowski

            from Tinley Park, IL

Comments about Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Elecric Guitar Strings:

I've been playing for about 20 years. I've always used D'Addrio or GHS brands. Then I decided to give these a try. WOW! If you can't tell the difference between these and "those other brands" or even their own, Super Slinky then should find something else to do. These FEEL different to Fret. They handle better and they seem to be louder making my guitars with stock pickups sound amazing. I can't begin to list all of the good things. I have had no tuning problems but I never do since I use a string locking technique when I change my strings. I am now a Ernie Ball Colbalt User..Great job EB.
