Overview

Ernie Ball 2723 Cobalt Super Slinky Guitar Strings are round-wound for maximum clarity and serious punch. The Cobalt Super Slinky set is clearly an improvement on its classic nickel-wound counterpart giving the player increased sustain, clarity and output. In addition, they resist sweat and moisture better and have unmatched flexibility when compared to other nickel wound strings. Cobalt is the most magnetically active string alloy on the planet and attracts the magnets in your pickups more than any other string.

"Ernie Ball Cobalt Strings sound and feel better than anything I've ever played! You have to check these out!" - Slash.
"Cobalt Strings feel incredibly silky under my fingers and deliver more punch, output, and clarity than normal strings!" - John Petrucci.
"There's a certain degree of clarity and punch you get from Cobalt Strings that I haven't heard tonally from any other strings I've played." - Joe Bonamassa.

All Ernie Ball strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and the most exacting specs to assure consistency, optimum performance and long life. Made in the USA.

Gauges: 9-11-16-24w-32-42.

These strings feel great under my fingers and they make my strat just ring out WAY better than they did with D'addarios. The guitar is louder with better response and I love it. As I've said before, there is not really a better when it comes to guitar players. It's ALL opinion based.

I was talked into trying a set of these strings at my local Guitar Center. I put the on my Les Paul Traditional Pro. I did not like the feel of the right from the start. I feel that the wound strings are very rough and hard to slide on. IMO they color your sound to a very dark sound. I started to consider replace my pickups on my 'Paul due to the dark sound or even changing the cap values on the Pots. The strings finally go to the condition where they needed replaced. I put a set of regular old D'Addarios back on and gee, I don't feel like I need new pickups anymore. The brightness is back in the guitar. These strings to me are all marketing hype. Never again. I did give them a 2 instead of a 1 because they seemed to hold up pretty well.

awesome strings

By Fabian Noggle

from ardmore oklahoma

I now use these strings exclusively, I have used them on a BC Rich warlock and now my epiphone les paul. I also use the ernie ball cobalt bass strings on my ianez sr400QM, these are awesome strings that sound good through solid state and tube amps alike, they are bright and crisp and the sustain is excellent.

Best I've Every Used

By David Niezabitowski

from Tinley Park, IL

I've been playing for about 20 years. I've always used D'Addrio or GHS brands. Then I decided to give these a try. WOW! If you can't tell the difference between these and "those other brands" or even their own, Super Slinky then should find something else to do. These FEEL different to Fret. They handle better and they seem to be louder making my guitars with stock pickups sound amazing. I can't begin to list all of the good things. I have had no tuning problems but I never do since I use a string locking technique when I change my strings. I am now a Ernie Ball Colbalt User..Great job EB.

Durability Like none other

By Brian Tatman

from Portland, Oregon

I play professionally and I know that there is nothing worse than having you equipment go down during a Gig. Thant includes strings. I use EB Cobalts only on every instrument that I own. I put them on a 69 Fender Custom Shop Strat, A 2013 Fender USA Deluxe strat and A Fender Blacktop Strat with a Floyd Rose. I also put them on a 60 Gibson Les Paul That I mainly use for slide. I have found that the only modifications to tone that I have to do is turn the tone controls on my distortion boxes back a little so there is not as much treble. I spent years changing and searching for the right strings for me and I have finally found my strings. These Ernie Ball Cobalt strings have outlasted all I have used in the past. From Rehearsals to Gigs they are indestructible and I am hard on strings.

Broken Strings

By Daniel Aslakson

from Ohio

I've tried these strings out for the past several months because of all the hype about them, "cobalt" and whatnot. I don't know if its just me, but these strings don't seem to hold their tuning at all, the high e-string especially. I have two packs of these with the e string taken of of both of them to replace the one previously broken.

Best strings

By Andrew Arbuckle

from Indiana

These are the best strings that i have ever used. I put a pair on my Ibanez in February, and with strings cleanings about every two weeks ( clean cloth & water ) they sound just as crisp and bright as the day that they were strung. They are definitely the easiest and silkiest strings that i have ever played.

Cobalt is good, yum

By David Dennis

from Eaton Rapids, MI

I put a set of these on my Fender limited edition custom Telecaster which has two Seymore Duncan pickups, a Pearly Gates bridge and a 59 PAF neck. I also put a set on my Epiphone G400 SG. The Tele was transformed, much more output, definition, sustain, just better across the board. The SG didn't show as much improvement but there was still measurable improvement. The Tele's Duncans are not near as hot as the SG's so that might be the difference. I normally use EB Super Slinkies (9-42) on each of them. I use EB Hybrids on my EPI LP and GC is the first place I've found that actually has them in cobalt. I'll review those once I get them on and play for a while. BTW: I have been playing for over 40 years, mostly classical, folk, blues, jazz. Arthritis has forced me to play electrics much more since they are much easier on fingers (unless you're trying to play weird Zappa chords that require 8 inch long fingers that have 5 joints). Remember: Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny...

By Wally Peck

from new york

After using many other string brands I saw an add in a guitar magazine about these strings. I saw that all of my favorite players were using these so I tried them and ill never go back.
