Just received this guitar today. It's better in hand than in the pictures. I own 8 guitars and 4 (including this new one) are (ESP) brand. I have never been let down by this brand. I had plans on switching out the pickups right away with EMG's. But soon after I played it, weather I was playing clean, or distorted. No matter what, it sounded great. This LTD matches the same play and feel as my ESP Explorer Custom. Don't think just because it's a (LTD) brand that it won't match up to high dollar guitars. For this price tag it's a steal. As for me personally, I think it's pretty close. I'd chose ESP/LTD over any brand any time, any day.

Love It

By Ryan

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

This is the 2nd guitar I've had and it is amazing. I've always wanted a les paul and this is just as good. It's got the awesome sleak look as the les paul if you get the honeyburst coloring and the fact that it doesn't have the shiny gloss finish makes it even better. Personally, I think it sounds just as good as a les paul and the pick-ups give you this amazing tone. Don't even think about it, just buy it. You really do pay for what you get and more...

Gorgeous blend of vintage and modern appointments

By Tosh Savage

from St. Charles, IL

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I've always been a Les Paul fan, and I've played hundreds of guitars accross multiple brands, but ESP has never let me down. I bought this in the Chicago GC in a limited edition Goldtop finish that caught my eye. When I plugged in and set the tone and volume to my preferences, I found the guitar to be warm and rounded with both pups on a clean channel, and razor sharp with the lead pup on high-gain distortion (both pups are coil-split). The quality of the construction is very high, has tons of sustain throughout my extrme note bending, and she's simply eye candy for any guitarist. My only complaints are that the lead pup gets some feedback at high volumes and extreme distortion, and the tone knob popped off when I pulled it up, but thats nothing some sparingly placed super glue cant handle. All and all, she has the playablity and construction I love from more modern guitars, and the sound and feel of a vintage. Personally, I'll never day dream about owning a Les Paul ever again.

great feel

By dillusionist

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

this guitar has a wonderful feel about it. i love the smoothness and contour of the neck and the humbuckers sound warm and smooth. the push pull pot let's it switch to single coil also, i like the feel of it. the single coil could use a little more twang to it but it is a definent single coil sound. the body looks great, darker than in the picture. the guitar itself is lighter than i like but still a solid body. tuners hold up great and there were no initial defects like fret work, wiring, or damage to the neck or headstock. great guitar. good job esp.

Awesome guitar

By Tyler

from Oklahoma

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because it felt good, sounded great, and it had that metal crunch in the pickups I was looking for. This guitar sounds extreamly good when played clean, as well as distorted. If you think it is'nt built for heavy metal just because it doesnt have a metal look or a pointy head-stock, think again! The pickups also have very good harmonic response, and sounds really good on every switch setting. Don't hesatate to buy this guitar because you will not regreat it!!!

Love this LTD

By Voodoo child

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I played it for about 6mo as is; the way I bought it. In December of 2009 I took it back to GC and asked them to drop in some SD P90's and some EB slinky 10's. It's a totally different guitar. LOTS of sustain and the P90's are super hot. Structurally sound, this guitar is a only gets better with a few upgrades. I have played this instrument literally every night for at least 30 minutes, sometimes up to 4 hours a day. It breaks in nicely.

Far better in person

By Tim

from Phoenix, AZ

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

The images on this site do not give this guitar justice. It is amazing to see in person. I picked this up in person after playing a Tele, Epiphone LP, and an Ibanez RG. Though the site does not say so, you can find this in a Goldtop. Unless you own a Gibson, this will be your go-to guitar. This is by-far better than the Epiphone. The fast neck allow shredding not normally seen on Les Pauls, but the bright pickups will allow those crisp clean notes to shine through. The strings that come with it are fairly heavy gauge, and you may want to restring based on your preference. I have no problems. If all you play is Thrash Metal and the like, buy the RG if your willing to spend the time tuning and re-stringing. If you play any other genres, this is the best guitar in the price.

GREAT GUITAR!

By The Me

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

i got this guitar used for $200 and i couldnt have got a better deal, i also have an epi sg-400 and this guitars sustain kicks its butt! i have the burst color and it looks a lot diferent than the pic, its more brown around the edges. the splip coil pickup is pretty cool to. i would highly recomened this guitar to an intermediate played or an experianced who is on a price limit like me. unless youve been playing guitars for years you will never know the difference from this or a Gibson lp

great guitar for the price

By blame it on the blackstar

from V-Town, NJ

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

i just got mine a week ago. i got the goldtop, which isn't being offered anymore. the finish on the guitar could be a little better, slight blemish in the paint near the bridge and the binding could be a little neater. that being said the guitar feels great. the neck is fast and the jumbo frets are great for bends and vibrato. the pups aren't bad either. tone controls are very responsive. the action is a little high for my tastes, but i've seen worse. i plan on taking it to my tech to fix that. overall good guitar for the price. 4 out of 5 stars due to the finish issues and the high action.

Awesome guitar for an awesome price

By Ryan

from Milledgeville, Georgia

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I was lucky to find one of these models (I'm sure it was the VB one) and played it. HOT DANG! :D It plays really nice like my Gus 200. The pickups aren't the greatest in the world, but I can change that. The neck fits my hand perfect and I feel like I can go all Zakk Wylde on it (which I did a little haha). Thankfully it's not like a Les Paul weight wise because it's significantly lighter. If you're gonna play metal with this like I do, get some EMG's or SD Blackouts. If not, don't worry. This guitar is worth keeping. Nice job ESP!

Les Paul look out.

By Jared Frantz

from Warsaw, Indiana

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I own an Epi Les Paul Standard, and this EC-256. I love my les paul, but I love this guitar even more....It shreds the les paul in every aspect, here's why. The LTD is lighter, and has much better action. The pickups are actually worth keeping vs epi stock pickups. Coil tap brings a whole new level to this guitar, tone wise. The extra large frets brings clearer notes. The sustain is the same as a les paul, but the guitar weighs have as much. The only problem I have with it is....you will need to change the bridge pickup if you play down tuned FYI. So if you are debating between this or a epi les paul....get this....you won't be sorry you did.

Going to the ESP side...

By Joe Voodoo

from Sacramento, CA

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

I recently got a no longer in production ESP LTD EC-400AT Goldtop. It's my first ESP as half my collection is Ibanez and other Epiphone. THIS Guitar blows everything out of the water! So... need a good ESP backup and found the vintage black. Really no significant differences except for the tone (which is good to have a alternative tone than a duplicate, yay!) and hardware choices (pickups, tuners, nut, but still quality). The split coil is a nice feature which allows for more tone options! Again I am floored by ESP LTD's playabilty, hardware and looks! Now what to do with my other guitars? Maybe sell them for a ESP Phoenix?

Comments about ESP LTD EC-256 Electric Guitar:

i listen to everything ranging from extreme death metal to blues and jazz. i am also in a garage punk band and this guitar hold up to my hard playing and jumping around the place. i don't tune real low on this guitar. the lowest i go is drop c# and i also have the esp ltd h-100fm for all my baritone tunings. the point is, this guitar hold up to hard hitting players who get way into the music like i do
