When you typically enter a recording, practice, jam session, simply pull your "Emergency Pick" from your pocket or wallet to try out an instrument at Guitar Center or just ask any employee if they have one you can use, 9 times out of 10 I notice it's usually a Dunlop Tortex guitar pick. That's because they have everything you need in a pick. Tortex picks come in a wide range of widths - between super-flexible .50mm reds for strumming 12-string chords to ultra-thick 1.14 purples that as a bassist I've been using when I've needed a pick my entire career, Dunlop has had you covered. I'm sure neither Store Employees or purchasers ever know their widths - Dunlop has them perfectly arraigned by color so that all you have to ask for is "A pack of blues". Add to that the Tortex material which increases its grip as you sweat onstage as well as accommodates your muscle memory and molds to the position you play in, There's simply no other flatpick to choose.

I hate to be a party pooper, but I found these picks to be pretty much the opposite of most reviews. I find them slippery to hold onto, and sticky on the strings when picking. The 88mm have a nice mellow tone for strumming (thus the 3 stars), but I prefer a pick that is sticky to hold onto, and slipperyp on the strings. I can pick with much more articulation and speed with a standard nylon, and hold onto it no problem. I wish the opposite was true as I do like the tone of tortex when strumming!

Superb Picks!

By Joshua Shaffer

from Monticello, MN

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

Wow, I am absolutely blown away. When I think of playing electric guitar, I don't think of playing with that flexible a pick. When I first got them, I was like "No way this pick can stand playing for very long". I was dead wrong. This thing is like a plastic bag. Stick it in the ground and it'll last forever. Again, I would prefer a little bit firmer for solos, etc. but for rhythm rock guitar, this is the perfect pick. Awesome model, Dunlop! Great price, Guitar Center! Josh

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

the dunlop tortex picks are very durable and very much worth the price. ive used other picks that break and crack right in the middle of playing. ive never had a tortex break on me and the only way that i stop using one is if i lose it. im sticking with the dunlop tortex.

Long lasting!

By Scaleaton

from Florida

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

These picks come in many different colors, which are all fun and they also have a great thickness. They dont point to a sharp angle at the tips which is great if you're looking at tapping or shredding with these babies. Overall these may just be picks, but they'll give you a run for your money.

Good Thick Pick

By phatwon

from Pennsylvannia

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

I'm currently using the 88mm Dunlop Tortex Standard Picks for playing my electric guitars. My guitars are set up with 10 gauge strings and these picks really dig into them. These picks are thick for a heavy sound and they're great for pick scrapes and palm mutes. They last a long time too. They're great for making the strings sound louder.

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

These are great picks. Reading through the reviews, I have noticed that there are a few others that say that these picks don't sound good. I am willing to bet that the people who wrote those negative reviews were probably using the wrong width for their guitar. In general, the thinner picks will have a warmer sound. The thicker ones will be bit more twangy/trebly. So as a rule of thumb, if you are playing acoustic, or you are strumming your guit a lot, go with a thinner pick. I like the oranges. The reds are great as well. If you are playing lead guit and aren't strumming as much, go with a thicker yellow, green, or blue. Bass players should definitely go with purple.

If you use the wrong pick for your style of playing, of course they will sound bad! But I will say, there is a reason that you see these picks everywhere. They are simply the best.

    The BEST picks ever

    By Mockingbird452

    from CA

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

I used Fender Premium Celluloid Medium Picks at for a year, and those always wore off in about a week. So I was gonna look for a new one, then I found out my favorite guitarist Slash used the Purple 1.14mm ones, so I decided to buy a few and they're FANTASTIC!! At first, i never liked using Heavy's or thick ones, but this one was different. After a few minutes using it, it felt like i was using a Regular sized one. its amazing.

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

first off, these picks last forever.plus, the grip is activated by sweaty fingers. heres a tip for you:if you lose one(the only way your ever gonna need another one, because these last forever.,before grabbing another one lick your finger tips then grab it.the pick will be glued to your fingers.the more powder on it the more grip you have

    Amazing Picks!!

    By eliobean

    from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

I found it! I can never get the thickness compared to the flexibility perfect for my style of play. I got the .88 mm picks, and they are made out of the perfect pick material, and they are super comfortable in my hand. They sound great also. These are one of my favorite kinds of picks now. I recommend trying them out.

    By GnarMaXX777

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

The dunlop tortex picks are the only picks that i use after trying many different kinds. They don't break slip out and it takes a long time for them to wear down! The only reason i buy new ones is because i'll lose one occasionally. They are the ultimate picks and nothing can compare, i'd suggest the .88 green pick. They are amazing!!!!!!!!

    Tortex

    By RockinRandy57

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

I found one of these picks, brand new in a parking lot. These picks are great picks in my opinion. I like fat, beefy picks better, but in the thin pick category these are great. I break picks a lot. I never broke mine yet after 11 months. If you like thin picks, you'll like this one a lot. If you like heavier picks try the Jim Dunlop "Big Stubby" is the best way to go. I wouldn't buy a pick from anyone else beside Dunlop.

    Greatest picks EVER!!!

    By Joe

    from Rockford, MN

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

I have been playing guitar and bass for 20 years now. I bought a pack of 72 of these .88mm back in 1994. I never even considered any other kind of pick since then. The .88mm's are the perfect thickness for me. I can go from my guitar to my bass and use the same pick. I just counted what I have left in the pack and I came up with 69 left in the pack. I never broke one, just lost them. I will have the same bag of picks until I die, and pass them on down to my daughter. I love these picks!!!

    Great picks

    By Hellmark

    from Winfield, MO

Comments about Dunlop Tortex Standard Guitar Picks:

Most guitarists like using picks, and sometimes go through a lot of them. Need a pick that isn't so slick? Dunlop Tortex brand picks fit the bill. With its textured surface, you get a better hold on that pick, so you might not lose it. Plus, at $3 for a dozen, if you do, its not a big deal. If you go with the Tortex Sharp, don't plan on doing much strumming. The plain jane, normal shaped ones, work great all around. I've used one for years, and they're great.
