  • Great snare

As reviewed by Jason Johnson on 12/16/2013

I went looking for a metal snare and didn't know exactly what I was looking for. I watched a ton of youtube comparisons. then i went and banged on as many different steel and brass snares as I could find. I was interested in a black beauty, and actually found one at guitar center. it didn't sound quite as good as I had been told. The DW NOB sounded awesome on youtube, but thats not always accurate. So I took a chance and ordered one. Its exactly what I was looking for. It sounds great pounding on and it sounds great micdd. I recorded it using a beta 57. perfect match.

  • Fantastic Snare

As reviewed by Adrian Day on 7/29/2013

This snare both looks and sounds amazing. The black-ish / silver-ish color would look good with most kits. The stock head produced the best sound I've ever heard in a snare I'm playing. It makes the whole experience of playing so much more enjoyable. The three-butt switch is actually useful. As far as the 6.5 versus 5, the 6.5 definitely doesn't sound too big or deep. The rim shots you get on this thing are loud and clear (about twice as loud as my previous snare). Anyway, I see why pros often prefer DW. It's a brand to be proud of because there are no low-end DW drums. They wisely renamed their low-end products PDP so that the DW brand maintains its Rolls-Royce status.

  • nicest brass snare under a grand

As reviewed by george wyland on 5/30/2013

I love this drum. I have played countless black beauty rentals thru out my long drumming carrier. that has been what has been put in front of me in so many studios so on a whim I picked up a bb and spent a week with it, the next week I stumbled upon this snare, i tuned it up and played it in the store for about 10mins and knew this was the one. I bought it, went home, put on heads of my choice (do this right away if you buy this drum) I can not stress this enough drummers, spend the money and pick up new heads when you take this home and tune to your liking. I returned the bb. I have owned this drum now for about five months and do not like to waste time typing out my opinions but I had to for this drum. I won't type about how warm it is or how it compares to the seamless for I traded my seamless into GC after this snare. it is it's own beast, nice and well built, this is dw's first "nob" snare and you can really appreciate the time they but into this drum, they are made to order so more then likely GC prob ordered a certain amount and keep em in the warehouse, they are made in the U.S.A yes and they have this nifty certificate glued on the inside of the shell explaining when it was built, the nickel plating is nicely done, reminds me of my old rogers dipped snares, I am sure you will not have to worry about any issues there, it is a solid shell for sure, I borrowed a porker bob once and thought it was good for a worldmax shell and if you ever thought the bob was ok you will lose your mind on the quality and sound. from the mag throw to the three position butt strainer, and you will never have to use a sc rew driver on this snare drum, you use your drum key to change wires!!! it is my favorite brass shell out of the four I own. if you are searching for the review that throws you over the edge and makes you buy it then let this be the one and when you get it put the yes.. new heads on her and let your ears tell you if it was the right choice, I bet you won't look back.
